Jeff Teague & Draymond Green on if Warriors are BEST team EVER, Steph becoming a GOAT | Club 520

The Club 520 podcast episode opens with a brief eBay sneaker authenticity promotion before host DJ Wells introduces guests Jeff Teague, Bishop B, and NBA champion Draymond Green. The conversation centers on Green’s basketball upbringing in the Midwest, his AAU and high‑school experiences, and the recruiting saga that led him from an unofficial visit to Kentucky back to his dream school, Michigan State, where he admired Tom Izzo’s track record of producing NBA talent. Green recounts a frustrating draft process, detailing multiple guarantees from NBA teams that fell through, ultimately resulting in a second‑round selection at 35th overall. He reflects on his role in the Golden State Warriors’ dynasty, emphasizing his defensive versatility, play‑making, and the way his “point‑forward” style helped pioneer the modern position‑less, switch‑heavy game. Green highlights key moments such as the 2016 Game 6 comeback against Oklahoma City, the 2022 championship, and the 2015 title run, describing how those experiences shaped his confidence and the team’s identity. Throughout, the hosts intersperse humor, banter, and occasional trash‑talk, while Green shares candid opinions on NBA culture, respect among players, and the evolution of the league’s style of play. The episode concludes with mutual appreciation and plans for future collaborations.

Cool and nasty. Let's get to it, baby.
Now, Dre, I know you done been a lot of places and you know you grew up in the Midwest, but you see, you ever seen the, oh, he ain't even got the uniform on today. Normally he gonna show you. Have you ever seen that before in your life? I see you got the Tiffany's on. You ever see the black Vans with the white laces?
Nah, that's crazy.
I ain't never seen that. That's his go-to shoe.
They coming out soon, bro. We still in the works with Nike, but yeah, they come. I'm gonna get you a pair.
15?
Yeah. Yeah, I got you, bro.
I'm cool. I'm cool. I don't really want 'em.
They come with a pistol and a box cutter, you know what I'm saying?
That's the package.
They go right with your fit, bro.
The strings, you feel me?
That's the accent. They go with the whole narrative for me, bro. It all works out at the end of the day.
Draymond Green gonna be the first nigga to leave robbing niggas with the That could be your farewell tour. Nah, they don't love you like that.
Still to my right, my dog, Young Nacho, Young Tigg.
How you doing, man? I'm good, bro. We got a legend in the building, bro. Midwest.
Midwest legend.
Come on, man.
Champion.
The real one, champion.
I appreciate it.
One of the realest, man. I'm so glad to have you. I'm gonna let you do your thing.
Hey man, you already said it. You know what it is, volume gang. We got a champ, Hall of Famer in the building, podcast extraordinaire out the gate, Draymond Green.
Appreciate the slot in the 5 Corner, big dog. I appreciate y'all having me, man. I'm a big fan of the show. I be watching. What y'all bring to the podcast space, bro, is absolutely incredible. So thank y'all for having me on. Jeff, I don't know how the fuck you remember all them stories, but it's crazy, bro.
Man, appreciate it, bro. You was one of the first people that really shout us out early. We appreciate it. Real talk, Fat Man Show, bro. That was love, bro. We really appreciated that, bro.
No doubt, man. I love what y'all doing. It's organic, you know? And I think the thing about the podcast space is like everybody, you gotta find your lane and your niche in it. You know what I'm saying? 'Cause it's room for everybody.
For sure.
And I think the lane that y'all created, like not found, but created, the lane that y'all created is special, man.
I appreciate that, bro.
That's love, man. Obviously, man, we could talk about so many things, but you know, we a real hoops pod. We gotta talk about before you got to Michigan State, the AAU days, you know what I'm saying? Beat him and my man up here, he's a big AU basketball. That's his thing right here.
The worldwide West Junior.
You see the jacket?
My Rashad swag.
Shout out to Just Don and them.
Mitchell and Nessie. Hey boys.
For sure.
But nah, man, hooping days high school, man. Who was that dude in your area outside of you growing up?
Man, Newbie Crater. We had Newbie Crater from Flint. He went to Flint Southwestern. We was the same grade. Newt was top 15, top 20 point guard.
Yeah.
And I feel like Newt was the last true point guard, like, of our era where he was just dishing.
Mm-hmm.
And he was great at it. You know, like, getting people involved. And it was loved. And then you kind of seen him get to college, and all of a sudden they like, "Yo, he gotta score more. He gotta do this." But I'm like, "Nah, y'all been praising this." And him being a true point guard. And you kind of started to see it changing then. But Noop was that dude in Michigan. Like for sure. Like it wasn't me, it was Noopy. And then it was this little white dude named Brad Rafford who played at Xavier. Yeah, he had a burner. It was those two, like in my high school class that was doing it.
Nah, I know him. He could shoot like a mug. But I love how you play. And it's all geared towards like being at Michigan State. Like you had some kids from here. Andy went to Michigan State, Gary Harris. We had Xavier Booker who's there now. Why Michigan State though? I know I could tell why you went, but I'm like, I try to ask them the same question. Like why they pick Michigan State? What do Izzo like do to make you get there?
Also Aaron Henry.
Oh yeah. Ben Davis. Shout out to the Westside, little brother too. And y'all had Aaron Harris too.
Yes sir.
Yeah, for sure.
A lot of Nat boys, man. I think for me, number one, Michigan State was always my dream school.
Okay.
And you know, I grew up watching Mateen Cleaves, Mo Peet. Okay. They from Flint. I'm 20 minutes away in Saginaw.
Yeah.
Then Jason Richardson, who is from Saginaw.
Yeah, for sure.
And so growing up, it was always Michigan State for me. Like, that was the gold standard where you wanted to be. Now, I committed to Michigan State, when I was like a sophomore, but they ain't really accept my commitment. It was like I was committed. It was like I was in a bad relationship. Like I was committed and they wasn't committed to me, but I was committed to them. Twins.
I've been there. Shout out to Purdue. Shout out to Purdue.
Let Dray finish. I'm committed to them and they ain't really honor it. So my junior year, I end up taking an unofficial visit to Kentucky. My high school coach played with Tubby when Tubby coached at Tulsa.
Okay.
And I took an unofficial visit to Kentucky and I ended up committing to Kentucky.
Damn.
Damn. And they were pissed. But I'm like, y'all ain't honor my commitment like I'm going to Kentucky. And Tubby ended up leaving, I ended up going there. But long story short, why I picked Michigan State was 'cause Tom Izzo winning. He was putting out pros.
Yeah.
When I was coming, it was like 7 first round picks and 9 first round picks or something like that in 7 years.
Yeah.
And then this probably won't go over well with people, but I went to Michigan. I was gonna go to Michigan and like say I announce, say today is Thursday, I announce, I mean today's Friday, I announce that next Thursday I'm having a press conference and I'm deciding my school. I was going to Michigan. Manny Harris was there.
Yep, that's Manny Harris.
And so they had Manny start calling me and I was tight with Manny and Manny like, "Dray, tell me something good." And I'm like, "Just chill, it's cool. Like, it's good." And they like, "You need to come down one more time." The coaching staff now blowing my phone up. Like, conference. "Come down one more time. Come down one more time." I'm like, "I'm good, man. I'm all right. Like, it's cool." "Come down one more time." So finally I go down on Monday, my mom takes me down, we play open gym. They show me the dorms we was gonna live in, which I'm a dummy, I didn't even see the dorms, I was gonna commit there. And Manny wasn't at that open gym, he had class, but all they other players was there. And I was busting they ass.
Shouts to Douglas.
Yep. And I was talking crazy to them boys. And nobody said a word. And I was like, bro, I go to Michigan State and I'm talking crazy to them and we all about to fight.
Out the gate.
That's home for me.
That's it, that's it.
That's it, that's it for me. Like this is a family and everybody stand on business here. Ain't none of that like soft. I don't think I would've made it at Michigan. They a little softer, little more preppy, little bit more preppy.
They gonna love that one.
Michigan State is definitely grit for sure. Nah, for sure. Absolutely.
So that was it for me.
That's crazy. Then obviously, you know what I'm saying? Have a crazy career at Michigan State, time to declare. How was your draft process?
Awful. I did 21 workouts.
Goddamn.
I had a guarantee from Indiana that they was gonna pick me if I was still on the board. And I was here doing my second workout the day before the draft. And I woke up that morning and Larry Bird resigned. Came across the screen.
If you was light-skinned, we'd have got you.
Y'all drafted Miles Plumlee. Not even Mason, y'all drafted Miles.
I remember. Oh, he know though, everybody.
Yeah, y'all drafted Miles Plumlee. I had a guarantee from Atlanta, they was gonna pick me.
Come on.
Yeah, we fumbled the bag.
Rick Sun stepped down, like, or got moved over the week of the draft. I had a guarantee from Memphis that they was gonna pick me. Chris Wallace got let go the week of the draft.
Goddamn, Draymond. Yeah, that's a bad look.
And I had a promise, which has been publicly said, I had a promise from Chicago.
Shout out to Mook.
And they actually drafted your brother.
Brother, yeah. Shout out to Mook.
I was about to say.
They drafted your brother.
Shout out to my dog. You know how he got drafted? You remember Omar Asik, whatever his name is? Yeah. Yeah.
Omer Asik.
Yeah, Omer Asik. We had the same agent.
Okay.
And they wanted him to resign and they was like, "All right, you gotta take my brother in that draft spot." So he resigned, he ended up going to Houston anyway.
He signed that like that poison pill there, like 3 for 35.
Yeah, him and Jeremy Lin.
Yeah.
Yeah, they had already picked my brother. So I knew my brother wasn't gonna play in Chicago. They was pissed. I was like, "He ain't about to get no clock." Damn.
So that was, and needless to say, all those people passed me up. And I ended up falling in 35. And it was like, it was the most bittersweet thing, bro. It's like, I just got drafted. Y'all fucked over me. I'm a second round pick. Like, and so that was, I mean, I hated the draft process.
You know what's crazy now? We talk about all the time. Boys, Draymond Green would rather be, if you're not going lottery, dang near would rather be second round now. 'Cause you get to your bread faster.
That's a fact.
That's a fact. I was, I made, I made money before anybody else in my class made money.
That's a good one.
Real money.
Shout out to Wes Matthews.
Absolutely. Wes made like a year.
Man, that was my draft, bro. I'm looking like, damn, what the fuck, he making $7 million a year? I only get $2,000 a month to spend on myself.
Like, this some shit.
Let's do this real quick. Top 3 second round picks of all time.
Him, Gil.
We can all go crazy.
Just throw some names up there though.
Manu.
And Manu probably.
Joker. Joker.
Ooh, yeah.
Yeah, Joker.
I'm sorry.
Joker.
That's what I was about to say.
Slow down, y'all. Nah, bro, you got more rings, bro. You can sit down. For sure, bro. But damn, Manu, Joker.
Joker.
I forgot Manu was a 6th round piece though. Gil.
Gil up there.
Yeah, Gil. That's what I'm saying. I can move myself out of that.
I'm cool. But your career probably better than Gil's though.
Yeah, the career for sure.
Yeah, for sure my career is. But Gil's talent is undeniable.
Yeah, that's why we going, we do pure hoop shit.
Yeah, pure hoop shit. Gil is one of my favorite players. I wore zero 'cause of him.
Ah, I just, I—
Yeah, that was why I wore zero. Gil Greenspan, bro.
See now.
It ain't Drew Gooden. See now, motherfuckers. I said I like Drew Gil, dog.
This nigga be going back on his fucking word.
I said I like Drew Gil.
And you had these weird-ass YouTubers Talk about, say he's always trying to go against T.
Man, fuck T.
Liar, talking about Drew Gooden was my idol.
I never said Drew Gooden was my idol, nigga. I say I like Drew Gooden, bro, when he was in college.
Man, let's pause, man.
For the March Madness game, nigga. Get the fuck outta here, bro.
Love, bro.
All right. I'm on your ass today, Paul. He on that. We got company, bro.
Nah, I'm sorry, bro. Dray family, bro.
It's cool. Dray family, bro. Nah, you know what I liked about him though? He talked shit from day one. Remember one day we was in the game, me and him talking shit on the bench. I'm trying to talk shit, he talking shit to me. He on the court, he look at me, he like, "Shut your ugly ass up, motherfucker.
I'm gonna get your money up." He said, "What? You got money?
Get your shit straight." I said, "Damn." I looked down, I couldn't even say that. He ran down the court. I tried to go to the end of the bench. He like, "I ain't talking to you. I ain't talking to you." I told you this nigga dangerous. And then he got paid. I said, "Oh, I gotta eat that word. Goddamn, he got more money than me." Shout out to you, bro. That's why when I see it on the court, I'm like, no, that's him, bro. That ain't before he got money championships. That been him.
I appreciate it.
Yeah. Bro, you have so many legendary moments in the NBA, bro. My favorite Draymond moment is the Paul Pierce, bro. They don't love you like that is one of the hardest rants of all time, bro.
'Cause we clipped it up. My dude, Luis clipped it up when the fan threw the, he threw the headband in the crowd and the dude caught it and threw it back.
That's the funniest shit.
That is your fucking fault.
That is all your fault.
That is your fault, bro.
Man, when I said that though, number one, I didn't know everybody would hear it. Nah, 'cause he pissed me off, man. Like at that time, he had just came over to the Clippers and we had a thing with them. Like, you know, it was P. And so he come over and he on the bench and he like, "Cook him, BG!" Talking to Blake. "He too little, BG!" And that's my biggest pet peeve. Don't fucking call me too little. Like, my height is my height. This what it— And so, you know, he's talking back, like, and we come down, and so Blake catches it on the mid post, he face up, and he shot fake me, and I fucking jump for it. And like, why am I jumping for a Blake Griffin post? And so it really pissed me off, 'cause I'm like, now you got me off my square. You got me jumping outta Blake Griffin pump fake. And I'm just like, bro, shut up. Like, you ain't like that. Like, you chasing this farewell tour, and you ain't like that. You know, the reality is you don't get a nickname like the Truth if you not nice. So Paul Pierce is nice. However, with Kobe passing away, that statement, it did not age like spoiled milk. Because we saw the magnitude of Kobe once he passed. Like, the world stopped.
Literally.
And so, you know, when you look back on that statement, It was the truth.
Nah, you speak the gospel.
Oh yeah, we didn't say he was lying. It was funny than a motherfucker.
He crazy as hell, man. I was like, damn, when he said it, I was like, that nigga crazy. Imagine you give it to Feds, hey, you know, so you walk through the tunnel and he be like, nah, that's crazy. And for him to catch it, it was going to somebody else and he was like, nah, get this outta here.
That's why I said nah, that's up for Draymond. Draymond's an asshole.
Who else up there be talking shit in the NBA though, bro? Man, you know, KD used to talk a lot. He don't talk no more, it seem like. He used to talk crazy to people though. Like real crazy to people.
I can definitely see that.
What about AI? Pat, Ant talk more than anybody, by the way. And he's so good, so it's not much you can say. But I mean, I'm gonna go there with you. Like, I'm gonna talk. Nonstop. But he talk to everybody and he that good. So it's not much you can really do or say. But he know he good and that's dangerous. And he carrying that team.
That's a fact.
Which is nuts because they got some guys that lost a lot on that team and he carrying them like— Trust me, you know.
I was over there. Yeah, I was over there. Shout out to Minnesota. Yeah, yeah, shout out to them, man.
He carrying them like they some winners.
Yeah.
And that's a special gift, man.
Yeah.
I like Ant, he don't back down, but.
Not at all. When you talking trash to me, I like, if I talk shit, like I'm talking shit to get myself going. In a way I feel like you do that. Like, 'cause I hear you sometimes just be like, "Fuck outta here." I'm like, "Bro, don't say nothing back to him. Just keep playing, bro." And people used to like, when Cat, when we used to play Cat, you would say like, "That shit's soft." And I used to be like, "Cat, just hoop, bro. He gonna take you out your game, just hoop." And he wouldn't say nothing. He'd be like, I'd be like, "Don't say shit. Don't say nothing to him." But you do that shit to get yourself motivated and to get yourself going. I don't think people know that.
I used to talk shit a lot just to get myself going. Nowadays, ironically, I don't. I only talk when somebody say something now. It may not seem that way these days, but I really only talk when somebody say something to me.
You said Draymond Green?
I be out there like, man, I didn't got, I didn't think I'd miss like 24 games. I got suspended this year the most games I've ever been suspended. And I think I smile more on the court than I ever have. I be out there laughing with niggas. But, cat, I used to bark up that tree.
Yeah.
But yeah, man, I used to talk a lot just to get myself going because that's how I grew up. You know what I'm saying? Like we grew up on the court.
Talking.
If you ain't talking, like you might as well not even be hooping. You know what I'm saying? Facts. Facts. Like I have to talk, but now I think I've learned to not have to do that. Like to get myself going. And I think that's just growing with age and mature. But once somebody go there, I don't know how to stop.
Oh, we know.
Oh, we—
Your mixtape this year been crazy.
The one with Buddy from the Lakers.
Oh.
Bando.
Y'all having too much fun, bro. I'm outta here.
But check this out though. Answer this question for me. I got a question for y'all. Every time I do something, y'all start doing this.
Yeah.
What does that say about you as a man?
They trying to get you fired next week.
Like, that's corny to me.
Yeah, that is.
I have a hard time respecting that. Like every time I do something, the first thing you do is jump up like, "Yo, review him, review him." Review him nasty. Bro, I got kids. Like, why you trying to get them to take more money from me? I think that's corny.
That's corny.
And so for me, I just can't, like, I can't respect that. I always say like, that's saying more about you than that's saying about me.
Yeah.
And so I just can't respect everybody like hopping up like, yo, you need to review him. Like, bro, I filed him. Like, relax. Like, it's all right. So I don't know, man. I'm losing more and more respect for these guys in the league.
The niggas be knowing what you up against too. They already nitpicking and you think they trying to, you know, take money away from you. So that makes sense. That shit was just funny, bro. Your reaction. I wouldn't expect you to do this.
That shit was funny.
I didn't want you to get fined or none of that shit, but I'm like, bro, he's a fucking clown, bro. Look at this nigga out here, man. He enjoying this shit too fucking much.
That's what I'm saying. Like the other day when y'all played the clips, I said, bro, clown. Bro having fun, bro.
Bro, also, why was the camera on me in that moment, man?
Like, I didn't know the camera was gonna be on me. You know what time it is.
Come on, man.
Let me be. I wasn't even in the scuffle.
No, you earned this, bro.
You earned the ISO.
ISO Cam all game, bro.
ISO Draymond.
Oh man. We went back to Memphis. My first game back, they review a foul. Camera come in my face from this angle. I threw the towel on this camera. I grabbed another towel. Camera came in this angle. I threw the towel. They like, "Yo, you gonna get fouled." I'm like, "If they fine me for getting the camera out my face," You know what, man? It just is what it is, bro. Nah, shit.
I know we don't got a lot of time, but before we got here, I wanted to give you your flowers because you really changed the way basketball is played. When I first came in the league, we had two bigs. We have a big power forward and a big center. We had Zaza and Al, or we had Josh Smith and Al. And then you came in the game with the Warriors and you 6'7", 6'8". On your best day, whatever you wanna say, you getting the ball, pushing the break, throwing passes. You really a point forward. And now you got Klay and Steph, they playing 2 on the 3, basically running the wing. And y'all changed the game. And I think a lot of people like a Grant Williams, all these guys should be like paying homage to you because shit, you really fucked up the NBA. 'Cause it was easy to do a 1-4 pick and roll, 1-5 pick and roll, the big sitting back. I get to shoot or I get to make a little pocket pass. Then you came and you switching. And I'm like, shit. And then when you switch, you like, don't help. I got him, don't help. I'm like, ah, he got me fucked up.
I'm like, and you really couldn't get by?
He was just as fast as you. He moved just as good. He taller than you.
He blocked shots.
I was like, damn, he fucking up the game. And then all of a sudden y'all just start running the league, bro. That's all because of you. Klay and Steph, they are who they are, but you played a huge role in that, bro.
I appreciate that, bro. You know, it's an interesting thing for me because I only really get that love from like hoopers. Yeah.
You know what I'm saying?
Like people who really appreciate, know the game. And at times, like we all look for a little validation. Facts. You know what I'm saying? Like, yeah, you gotta have confidence and know what you bring and believe in yourself. But at the end of the day, like as a human being, we all like some type of admiration.
Yeah.
You know, and that's, not really what comes with the job for me. You know what I'm saying? It's like you screen, you pass, you play defense, and it's never really viewed that way except for from guys who really know the game and hoopers.
Yeah.
And so, man, I appreciate that because it's been a lot of times, bro, where it's like, I don't even wanna do this shit no more. You know what I'm saying?— it's almost as if you falling on deaf ears. You know what I'm saying? Like, I'm doing this, I'm doing that, but you don't necessarily get the credit for it. Like, even if I look at like, people like, "Yo, you made a bunch of money." And I'm like, "I have, and I'm very appreciative of the money I made." But like, I've never signed a max contract. Like, coming off of championships or whatever. I've never signed a max contract, nowhere near. Like right now, my max was $150 million more dollars than what I got. You know what I'm saying? And so, but to feel that love from hoopers, you know what I'm saying? Like yourself, guys who I respect. 'Cause you know, I don't respect everybody that play basketball. Just 'cause you play basketball, you don't get my respect like that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That ain't the benchmark for me, you play in the NBA. But like guys that I respect, that's ultimately, that's what kind of make you wanna keep going. You know what I'm saying? Like just knowing that you get that appreciation from the real ones that know. So I definitely appreciate that.
They should know. Like when you got suspended that game in the Finals, that turned the whole Finals around. Like you was the most important player on that team. Like during that stage, because you really run everything. Like if you play against him, you know, like, All right, Draymond get the ball, he gonna push that shit. You gotta close out the Steph and them. They catch it on the run, it's over with. Draymond get downhill, he gonna make a pass, he gonna skip his guy. Like everything was like, all right, fuck, keep this motherfucker. Hey, you gotta damn near guard him. You was like Rondo for the Celtics. You like, you damn near gotta guard, like guard, guard him. Don't let him sit back and make plays and just pass open.
Yeah.
I'm like, yeah, this motherfucker really special. That's when I started like, yo, we need Paul Millsap. I'm like, we need somebody that could do the same shit. We wasn't good as y'all nowhere, but I'm like, we need some shit like that. And then the whole NBA trying to do it now.
So that's it. But it was fun during that run where y'all was, y'all, I mean, you had Bron obviously, but as a team, y'all was dominating East.
Yeah.
We was in the West and it was kind of like we were playing similar styles.
Yeah.
You know what I'm saying?
Like— Shout out to Quinn.
You coming off, making the reads, you got Kyle Korver flying off. You got, so y'all had Baze for a minute.
Yeah.
DeMarre Carroll.
Yeah.
Like, ow. And y'all was really putting it together. And I thought, it's just unfortunate y'all—
It's over with.
It's just unfortunate.
When Bron wanna pick you apart, it's over with.
Yeah. 'Cause he just walked the game down. Like, and he'll make every play. He gonna run in transition if they got a layup. If they don't, he gonna stop. And he gonna get everything he want every play. And that's tough, man. It's tough to beat.
And he said it with you, bro. Like you are the intricate part of a dynasty. I think people don't understand, like you are an intricate part of a dynasty. You are the reason why everybody's able to play the way that they are. Like how is that to like, obviously you get that love, but like to be a part of so many historic situations, like y'all team is historic. You've been a part of historic battles. What's the craziest game you played in?
Man, the craziest game I played in, the craziest game I played in was Game 6 in 2016, Oklahoma City.
Oh, shit. Dog.
And we was down 15 in the third quarter and Klay went ape shit because we had no business winning that game. Like, it was over. They was going to the Finals.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm. And that was that. And to see, like, we got every stop we needed to get. We made every play we needed to make. And you know, OKC was a tough place to play.
That motherfucker be rocking.
Like, it's still, like, they back good now. It's tough again, but—
It was different.
With K and Russ, that was a tough place to play. And everything was against us. We down, we was down 3 to 1, but now at this point we down 3 to 2. And it's, we down 15 in the third quarter. KD and Russ gonna score the ball.
Facts.
Absolutely. And for us to come back from that, that was like the one, 'cause it's 2016. Like I ended up getting suspended in the finals. If I didn't, I think we'd go on and win the finals as well. That's neither here nor there. But that was after the first championship. Everybody was still questioning us like, "Oh, such and such was hurt, that's why they won." Yeah. Kyrie was hurt. Kevin Love was hurt, that's why they won. And that game was kind of like the, that thing I think that really sparked us going forward because it was like, "Oh, we can come back from anything now." You know, like we can come back from that, we can do anything. And like I said, we lost after I got suspended. But that was, I think that game was like really the thing that set us on that path that we've been on.
What's your favorite championship year?
2022. Because 2015, which was the first one.
Shout out to Harrison Barnes.
HB.
Don't forget.
Facts.
HB was very integral in that championship. Oh my gosh.
I always forget.
Oh my gosh. Absolutely.
Facts. But go ahead.
2015, we didn't really know what we was doing. You know what I'm saying? Like you just chasing it. Like don't really know. And so at that time I always say like irrational confidence. That's essentially what we had at that time. You know what I'm saying? Like we just out there like, "We gonna go win. We think so." And we won. 2017, KD comes and Christmas Day we were still trying to figure out like who getting the ball. And after we got, we lost to Cleveland.
Your league game. Yeah.
And after that game, K told Steph like, "Don't worry about me, I'm good. I'll find mine. Be Steph." And from that point on, we rode. It was just a matter of time to get to the date that we would win the championship.
Yeah, y'all was cheating, bro.
2018, just a matter of time of the date we gonna win a championship. 2022 wasn't really a championship team. Like, of the championship teams that I've been on. You know what I'm saying? It wasn't really a championship team. And I'll tell you, like, After every series, me and Steph would be walking to do an interview after we won a series and we walk and laugh.
Yeah.
And we laugh like, yo, how?
How we doing this shit?
How are we winning like these series right now? And we literally laugh like, this is funny. But that's also when Steph took that next step of like, nah, I'm really one of them GOATs.
Yeah, for sure.
And he carried us. But that was the toughest one. We weren't favored. Like—
Hell no.
Everybody was calling us too small. Boston, they too athletic, they too big. We didn't stand a chance. And we went and made it happen. So that one was my favorite one. And then also, you know, I told KD, I'm gonna win when you leave here.
Out the gate.
And—
You did that shit.
I did that. So that one was the most fulfilling for me.
I gotta ask you a random question. We talked about Klay going crazy game 6. What was more crazy, that or what he did to my Pacers?
Ooh-wee. Well, he did that.
Majority on him.
He ain't dumped that shit on me. I told you who was guarding that nigga, wasn't me. Okay.
It was Draymond Green.
Draymond Green, go crazy.
Paul George.
Glenn Robinson.
It wasn't me, bro. I had Steph. Steph might've had 30 that game. I don't give a fuck. He ain't had 60 and shit.
The 60 was crazy.
That was crazy. Didn't dribble.
But you know, Klay also kind of like, there was added things to that. Him and PG both same year from Cali, Southern California. And then Monta—
Oh, word.
Klay, you know, Monta was there. Klay coming in.
Yeah.
Didn't necessarily feel like he embraced him his rookie year. So it was an added sense of I wanna— "I wanna destroy these dudes." Man, he did that.
Man. We saw, I was on the court like, we was going in the locker room, we, all right, it's when you go to Golden State, you play at Oracle, even in the new arena, you know you not about to win. Like at these moments. Nah, for real, bro. You be like, all right, we gotta keep it close. 'Cause if they go crazy in the first quarter, it's over. Fans gonna start going crazy. They gonna start running around on the bench throwing towels and shit. So the first quarter we was down like 12. I was like, "This shit over." He start hitting shots. I was like, "Oh, it's over." I see them start throwing towels. Steph running down the sideline. I said, "Oh, they clowning us. I'm about to be on TV all night." Then they threw a lob to KD. They tipped the ball. I'm running back to chase it down. Steph just threw it behind. You just see me in the camera like—
Boom!
Luis! Nah, you gonna see it, bro. It was crazy, bro. They team was too good. We used to be like, "They cheating." Y'all was worse than the Heat, bro.
Yeah, it was. I mean, I think that was the greatest team of all time.
It was.
In my opinion. Like, who over it?
Ain't too many people wanna smoke with y'all.
Nah.
Man, hold the fuck on.
Who?
Would love to know. Let me think.
Y'all don't get another question in.
Y'all and that '01 Lakers team would be real.
I was like, yeah, that'll be—
My only thing with the '01 Lakers team, I think we had a better team overall.
For sure.
But like, we ain't have nobody that could guard Shaq.
Shaq is not a real player, bro. They probably got the nod. Y'all there though. Talent on the paper, paper crazy.
On paper it's not.
Paper warriors, y'all silly. But with the Diesel and Colster, y'all had a run.
Only thing about Diesel—
Who the fuck is guarding Shaq, Lun Long.
That'd have been tough.
We would've struggled with Shaq for sure. Like no—
And they ain't shooters.
But Shaq had to come up.
Shaq couldn't play that drop.
Yeah.
Steph was going to shoot. Him and Klay was gonna be teeing up, bro.
And they didn't even have to screen 'cause oh my God, what Steph would've did to Derek Fisher. Oh my God.
He thought Matt Barnes was bad.
Nigga, Steph would've torched his ass.
Nah, Steph would've torched it.
Nigga love throwing jams.
Shout out to Fish. Get well soon.
Y'all stupid as fuck.
No, I love to see that matchup though. That'd be fire. Just the matchup and stuff.
I ain't talking about guard shit.
I'm talking shit though. KD, bro, it's over. Y'all gonna fuck around and start—
It was demoralizing. Like, damn, man, y'all cooking everybody at, but y'all played perfect basketball. I think that's what the dope part about it was like the kids emulated y'all. Like everybody wanted to be Steph., but y'all played basketball the right way. So the people who copied y'all just off mimicking had to play the right way. And that's what the dope part about it was. Like for you, your impact on the team was just like, no, what he does don't always show up in the stat book, but he dictates the flow of a game. And like you said, the league had to transition that because what you gonna do? Yeah, you can have Shaq get 2s all day, dunk crazy. But what happens when that ball screen come out and you getting open 3s? Absolutely.
Now it don't matter. I commend you for that, bro. Nah, that way. Draymond Green with all them, bro. Nah, you a different kind of nigga, bro.
It used to be a different wave, bro. They'll be chilling and it's like, "All right, we ready." And then you down 15 and then next thing you know, you just down 30. Y'all start, they tying, they taking their shoes off, they icing up. You trying to get your stats now. I'm like, "I got 11. I need 3 more shots, hold on." 'Cause you know they used to blow people out.
You be like, man.
That's why I hate the whole Steph Curry got game winners. Nigga, he up 30 in the fourth. He's not playing no more.
You don't need to hit a game winner.
He won the second half.
That is a dumb conversation to like try to take him out of because bro, how the fuck am I going to get a game winner when you just blow my fucker by 67?
Bro, there was one year, it's my mirror, me and Steph minutes used to mirror each other. Like we literally mirrored to the T unless one of us was in foul trouble. There was one year I think we ain't play 34 fourth quarters.
Come on, bro. That's what I'm talking about.
That's outta pocket, bro.
That had the real PTO.
34 fourth quarters.
That PTO balance was crazy.
They was smacked. Y'all was ready for the club after the third quarter.
That's a lot, bro. That is a lot.
And then y'all weren't playing scrubs all those games. Those are against contenders.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
And it's crazy though, because I also see like, I be seeing them talk about these records and all that. And I feel like Klay and Steph never, like, for instance, he had 60 on y'all. He didn't play the fourth quarter.
He could have had 80. Like, he could have broke Kobe record, bro. He was that hot.
And so that's one of the things that put them two dudes in different category for me is you got guys who score a lot of points, they still be in close games.
Yeah.
We used to blow people, like when they was scoring like that, it was a blowout. Like, and it wasn't like it was against a bad opponent, but it's a blowout. And so they never got to finish whatever it was they was up to. And I don't think they get enough credit for that.
And the ego wasn't there, 'cause the ego could have said, nah, we gonna stay and do this. But the ego was just like, we on a mission. Like, y'all know we gonna win anyway. We gonna get y'all up outta here and get y'all up out the way. We ain't gotta sit here past that. So we getting it, like you said, in 30 minutes, we getting what you get in 40.
Absolutely.
Don't even matter.
It's crazy, man.
But on that note, man, we gotta get up outta here. Draymond, appreciate you sliding through, man. Yeah, come back. Appreciate you hanging out with me, man.
I'll come back anytime.
Appreciate you. We gotta pull up, man. We gotta get on your show, man. We gotta get on the Ustream.
Let's do it.
We'll do that. Facts.
Whatever Ustream is. They got all this technology. Y'all know me, I'm in the hotel room. I can't say nothing on here. They gonna pause me, but.
He was adjusting crazy.
I was like, bro, in the studio. On all future.
You're lying.
Nah. My guy, man, we appreciate you, bro. Draymond Green, appreciate you, man.
Thank y'all, bro.
For sure, man, y'all know what it is. Like, share, subscribe, all that good shit. We'll be back next week, Club 520.
