LeBron James Returns To Cleveland, Giannis Causes Trade Deadline Chaos & Jeremiah Fears Vs Lu Dort

In this solo episode of The Draymond Green Show, Draymond Green walks listeners through the NBA trade‑deadline atmosphere, sharing personal anecdotes from his 14‑year career about the stress, jokes, and uncertainty that fill locker rooms when a deadline looms. He discusses how trades affect players’ families and career trajectories, and speculates on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s possible exit from Milwaukee and its ripple effect across the league. The episode then shifts to LeBron James’ emotional return to Cleveland, highlighting the city’s cultural importance and the peculiar elevated court that contributed to Luka Dončić’s ankle injury. Draymond critiques inconsistent arena standards—bench heights, locker‑room amenities, and the need for uniform safety measures. He examines a recent scuffle between Lou Dort and Jeremiah Fierce, questioning the $25,000 fine imposed on Fierce. The host offers his take on Jayson Tatum’s injury timeline and legacy, including a tongue‑in‑cheek statue conversation. Draymond then reveals his All‑Star reserve selections for both the West and East, explaining his reasoning for each pick. The episode closes with a “Golden Days” listener question about the Warriors’ 2018 addition of DeMarcus Cousins, recounting the behind‑the‑scenes call with GM Bob Myers and Draymond’s role in the decision. Finally, he previews the upcoming Warriors homestand against the Pistons and 76ers, urging listeners to follow, rate, and share the podcast.

As promised, with the trade deadline coming up in a little less than a week, um, I want to take you all kind of into an NBA locker room. Yeah. And I have different perspectives. I have perspectives where you kind of know there's no trade going to happen. I've been in that situation many years where it's like the trade deadline is going on and everyone around the league is kind of looking over their shoulder and keeping their phone in their hand and not sleeping at night. And we're just like, kicking basketballs at the start of practice while we're warming up, kicking, shooting full court shots. The circus that our practices used to be. Steph throwing basketball from one corner to the opposite corner of the rim, across two courts trying to make the shot. It used to be a complete zoo. I've been in an NBA locker room and it's that in a trade deadline. Yeah. I've also been in an NBA locker room now where you don't know what the hell gonna happen. And I must say, both can be a bit interesting, uh, because even if you're in a locker room and there's nothing going on, everyone's still watching around what's going on around the league. Oh man, you see this? You see that trade? Oh man, what— how does this affect us? How does this, you know, uh, you know, a team that we're always up against Cleveland Cavaliers in NBA Finals, just made a trade. How does this, you know, like, and so I've been on both sides of it. When there is not much that's going to be done, there is not much stress. You're just kind of business as usual. Like I said, I've also been in on the opposite side where, you know, team isn't that good. You're looking to make moves to A, possibly get better that year, or B, make the team better for the future, get some picks, whatever, get off some salary. A lot of people shed salary cap during the trade deadline to try to get under the tax. There's different things that go on during the trade deadline or different places that a team can be in. And it changes the vibe in the locker room. When you're in a locker room where you don't quite know or some guys are expecting to get traded, It get weird because you have to think about an NBA locker room. NBA locker room, the jokes are flying all the time. You usually got at least one or two guys in there who always keeps the jokes flying. Say a joke comes out, guys are gonna joke about whatever's going on. And guys start joking about the trade deadline. So I've actually seen this happen. A guy that's expected to get traded and a guy that thinks he may possibly get traded The guy that think he may possibly get traded is a jokester. So he think he may possibly get traded, and then there's a consensus that someone's gonna be traded. And the guy that makes it, that thinks it's possible, starts making a joke to the guy that everyone thinks is getting traded about being traded. And the first time you hear that, you're like, whoa. So the first time I heard it, I actually walked out of the locker room, went in the training room, and I just kind of had this look on my face. And our training staff was like, yo, what's wrong? You good? And I was like, yeah, man, it's weird in there. And they like, what? What do you mean it's weird in there? I'm like, well, this guy is talking to this dude, like making a joke about him being traded. But the guy he's talking to didn't find it as a joke at all. He didn't necessarily get upset, but I think it was just a little like, huh? Like, really, dude? Like, ain't that off limits? But there's nothing off limits in an NBA locker room, really. Except like wives and kids, you know. That type stuff. But the jokes just fly. And so in a locker room where you don't quite know, uh, it's tense though. Like, as the trade deadline get closer and closer, it gets more and more tense. And you're usually practicing, at least for us, you're usually in practice when the trade deadline strikes, like when it, when it ends. Like, you're usually in practice. And man, you be seeing like The general managers, you know, their offices are usually right above the court. You be seeing them up there in the office meeting and shit, and you on eggshells, man. You just keep looking over your shoulder, keep looking up there because you don't know. Trade deadline is a bizarre time because you have to remember, like, the trade deadline, like, life-changing things can happen, you know. Like, you can You can be in a city for X amount of years and boom, you need to be gone in the next 2 days. You know, I was talking to CJ McCullum when we played Atlanta and I was like, man, we sat at the free throw line. I was like, CJ, how you doing, man? He was like, man, he was like, woo, man. He's like, you know, when you get traded, he was like, well, you ain't never been traded, but when you get traded, bro, you got 2 days, you gotta get outta there. You gotta go take this physical. You're packing a bag because you don't know when you're going to make it back. You don't know when you're going to get your stuff. I'm now trying to find a place to live. I got to find a kid-friendly place. This, that, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. Nah. It just flips your whole world upside down. And I say that not knowing from experience. I say that from people sharing the experience with me. But I think we all can imagine, like, you find out today that you need to be gone. By Saturday morning, you need to be on a flight. He's like, man, so you pack up 3, 4 bags and that's what I got. And I don't know how long I'm gonna have that. I don't know when I'm gonna, and it's just like, man. And so it's really things that happen that can just flip your whole world upside down like that. And quite honestly, I think it's a tough time. Like— Yeah. The stress levels be high, like, and then let's take it, let's look at another perspective. Guys that you've grown relationships with, that you've possibly spent multiple years with, they're now gone, just like that. You go from seeing them every day to not seeing them at all. And all of that stuff, man, it takes its toll, like it's— Yeah. It's, it is not a fun time. As someone who's been with the same organization for 14 years, I like, there's been moments where I'm like, yeah, I know there's no chance I'm getting traded. And even still, I'm just sitting there like, man, I cannot wait till this deadline pass because you just never know. Like there's never a way to be so certain unless you got a no-trade clause. Myself, I've had a trade kicker for years. There's still no way to be certain 'cause it's just money. They'll pay the money if it makes the team better. And so it's not a fun time. It's a very stressful time for NBA players, NBA players' families. You know, my wife was talking to me a week ago and she was saying like, man, You think such and such gonna get traded? And I'm like, I don't know, it's possible. She's like, man, I was talking to, you know, significant other. She's like preparing the kids and everything for a trade. And I'm just like, really? Like, I don't know if he gonna get traded or not. But that's the other side of it, right? Like all our kids play together all the time, right? There are kids telling my kid like, man, I think my dad about to get traded. Yeah. Like, and so it's not a fun time. It is testy. It sucks. It sucks. That's about as best as I could put it for you. It is a shitty time. And then once you get to 12 o'clock, 12:01 strike, you hold your breath for like another 5 minutes 'cause something could be just have gone through at the actual deadline and still making its way. But ooh, once it's over, you take that clip off your lung and you can breathe again. But it's brutal when you can't. So, you know, there's been a lot of news about the trade deadline and the Dubs, everybody talking JK, what's gonna happen? As of yesterday, everybody's talking Giannis. Does the Warriors make a trade for Giannis? This is not the podcast where you find that out. I actually don't have a fucking clue. I have no idea. I know what you know, which is exactly what I saw and read, which are the same things that you saw and read. So I have no clue. I did see that Giannis is preparing for an exit from Milwaukee, whether that's at the deadline or the offseason. Apparently it's inevitable and it's gonna happen. And so how does that change the trade deadline? Well, Everyone around the league even will be calling Milwaukee. Even if you're not calling for Giannis, if they're breaking up the team, you could be calling for Myles Turner. You could be calling for Bobby Portis. You could be calling for Ryan Rollins. You could be calling for a bunch of different guys. If they're gonna move Giannis, they'll probably move just about anyone, you know? And so it changes things, but we'll see. Right now, you know, I know it's just as much as you guys know. I've read what you read. We'll see as the trade deadline nears over the next 4 days what will happen, but I don't know. But I know it's very stressful. So we'll see. Coming up after the break, I'll go around the association. Man, Bron had a very— Bron was crying and shit, had a very emotional return to Cleveland. We'll also talk about the Gordon Lucas injury. Our fire starter of the month, our first fire starter of the month, Jeremiah Fierce gets into it with Lou Dort. I'll make my all-star reserve picks and much more. We'll be right back after this. I'll be honest, healthy habits have never been more important. So this year I actually found a routine that's much easier to stick to, grooms. Feels like doing the least, works like doing the most. A simple, delicious daily habit that makes a real difference without overhauling my life. That's code Draymond at Grooms.co. As promised, now we'll move around the association. First up, we got Bron returning to Cleveland. Very emotional return. I can imagine that being emotional, number one, just being back at the crib, but all he's done for the city of Cleveland, bringing the championship to the city. You know, they play those highlights. I think for Bron, like, what is it? One more game in Cleveland maybe? But you just start really counting the days, right? Like, man, I don't know how many more I have in this building. And I think the journey just take you there, right? Like you start the replay, you see things, man. You see Bronny up there as a little baby. You see Bryce, you may see Z, you may see Van. Like the things that you may see up there, teammates, the memories, the lane that it can take you back down. It's, I get it. Like I get the emotion, you know, and— Yeah. I think, you know, incredible to have that moment because like I say, you just don't know in the current state that is being a player, you just don't know how many more of the moments you got. And you know, to see him embrace it and cherish it, super dope, super dope, super dope moment for Bron, super dope moment for the Q, for Cleveland as a whole. Just super dope and well-deserved moment. for Bron in Cleveland last night. I found it very funny. And speaking of Bron in Cleveland, I found it very funny, uh, Jaylen Tyson announcing the city of Cleveland as belonging to Donovan Mitchell. Uh, Donovan Mitchell is a great basketball player. Absolutely incredible basketball player. Um, like— Yeah. Top 15, 10, whatever your opinion is, in the NBA, a player in the NBA. Donovan Mitchell has not gotten out of the second round in Cleveland. Jalen Tyson, and I saw he apologized to him, apologized after the game. I thought in that moment Donovan Mitchell should have corrected him right in the moment. Like, hey man. Nah. No, sir. There need to be more done before this can be my city. And even in doing more, I still don't know that it can be Donovan Mitchell's city. It's Cleveland. Like, I just don't know that it can be. But the reality is, uh, for Jaylen Tyson, I, I think the young fellas should understand how this works. And this is no shot at Donovan Mitchell. I think Donovan Mitchell would probably agree with me. Is Cleveland is more Kyrie Irving city than it is Donovan Mitchell city because Kyrie Irving won a championship in Cleveland. So until this Cleveland group wins a championship in Cleveland, it's actually Iman Shumpert city even more so than any of these guys. Tristan Thompson, J.R. Smith, it's Richard Jefferson, Channing Frye. It's actually more of those guys' city until these guys win a championship there, because those guys can always walk in that arena and look up and say, oh, that's us. That's how this works. So again, no shots at Donovan Mitchell, no disrespect to Donovan Mitchell. I think the only thing Donovan Mitchell did wrong was not stop the kid when he said it, say, hey, hey, hey, no sir, uh-uh, not quite. But young fella, you keep playing the way you playing and help us Get there, then we can say that. Until then, can't quite say that. Also, a report came out from Dave McMiniman, where he said the Cavs are open to having LeBron finish his career with them next season. That says a couple things to me. Number one, they may still feel like Bron can help guide these young guys, get them over the hump, because it's been a bit of a rough year this year for their team coming off of the year that they had last year in Kenny Atkinson's first season at the helm. Of the Cleveland Cavaliers, they probably think, man, Bron come back here, A, it's the Eastern Conference, it's not as hard as the West. Bron can help get these young guys over. Or they could be thinking, ah, this young group that we thought was it just ain't it. We might as well honor Bron and bring him back. And we know what he does for the economy of the city of Cleveland and all of the business that goes on around the city. One thing's for certain. I don't care if LeBron James got one leg, the Cleveland Cavaliers should and would, could, and better always be willing to have him come back there and put on a Cleveland Cavaliers jersey because it's so much bigger than basketball. So much bigger than basketball, what he brings to that city. So when Dave McMiniman reported that, I know a lot of people were shocked, but I thought, yeah, of course, like. Mm-hmm. 1000% they want him back. It just puts you in a different category. So we'll see what happens with that. But of course they'll have him back. And staying in the Cleveland realm, Cleveland has this lifted court. And what I mean by lifted court, it's like, okay, so if you go into an NBA arena and there's not a court down there, cement, right? And then they lay the wood floor down on top of the cement. But like, it's kind of even all around the court, except Cleveland. Cleveland, even if you're sitting on the bench, it's like your hips are like kind of in this weird position because the court is elevated. And so your feet are like higher than they should be when you're sitting. And so it's a shitty situation, to say the least. And yesterday, due to that elevated court, Luka, You know, Luka always hop back after he shoot the step back 3 to the left. He take a couple hops back and he hopped right off the court and apparently hurt his ankle. Was able to return to the game, which is great. We never wanna see anybody get injured. But with Luka, that should be a warning to the NBA. One thing I always wonder with the NBA that bothers me is, You have all these rules on the road about you need to play, and if you don't play, you get fined, and this, that, and the other. But in 2026, the NBA still does not have certain standards in arenas that makes it best for people to have the opportunity to play. Like, you go into a few arenas and there's a cold tub and a hot tub in the locker room. On a road arena. That should be in every road arena. You go into some arenas and the bench, the bench that you sit on, the seats that you sit on at Dallas Mavericks arena has to be 25 years old. They're low as hell. I was hurting, I was hurting sitting on Dallas bench when we were playing Dallas, just from sitting in the seat, they were so fucked up. Everybody should have up to par seats. We know higher seats are better for taller guys. Allows their hips to sit in great position, which then lessens your chance of injury. Talk about hamstring pull, groin pulls, all these things. If everything isn't aligned right, you're a lot more susceptible to those types of injuries. So when you talk about keeping players on the floor, all of these things make a difference. So not only does Cleveland not have the higher seats, but theirs even come off as even lower because it's beneath the floor. Like it's actually, the floor is lifted above it. And so yes, it was an ankle injury to, to Luka that he's able to come back from, but let's not let this like become something that like costs someone some significant time to try to make the adjustment because that's just not what it should be. Like, we know what happened, we saw it, like make the necessary moves that need to be made in order to protect the players. Yeah. And these things that I'm talking about, things in the locker room, the benches, like, why isn't benches standard or a certain height of a bench standard across the NBA? These are all things that affect gameplay. They all affect gameplay. They all affect availability. There's no reason that every NBA arena shouldn't have a hot tub and a cold tub in the locker room. Why not? You want people— you want players— Draymond Green. Routines to be so drastic from home and road, but then we, we make all these complaints when somebody don't play. Control what you can control, and what can be controlled are those things, and they directly impact— I mean, directly impact players' availability and how their bodies are aligned and the different things that are going on. They, they, they direct directly impact that. So I don't understand why the league still haven't made these changes. There's no reason these changes hasn't been made. Like, and this— and the court is just another one. Why is this court any different than the other arenas? Fix it, figure it out, put the players in the best possible position to be healthy so that the players can provide the best possible experience for fans paying their hard-earned ass money to come and watch us play a basketball game. It's simple. It's not an investment that you got to pay over and over and over again. It's a one-time cost. Fix the things, man. Fix them before they cost us more time. In other news around the association, you got Lou Dort and Jeremiah Fears getting into a scuffle on the final play of the game. I thought it was absolute bullshit that Jeremiah Fierce got fined $25,000. I don't know, I've actually been in a situation like that. Brad Beal, when Brad was in Washington, I clamped Brad on a play and was talking some shit to him. And Brad grabbed me. When Brad grabbed me, well, As a man, I'm not gonna be like, oh, when you grab me, I'm not gonna let you push me down. I'm gonna stand my ground. And I did exactly that. And I ended up getting fined $35,000. And I'm like, yo, I got fined 35 grand. This man grabbed me by my jersey. My jersey was ripped. I'm like, this man grabbed me by my jersey. What am I supposed to do? You get fined $35,000. Well, the young fella, Jeremiah Fierce, just got fined $25,000. All he did was hold his ground. The only thing Jeremiah Fierce did was hold his ground. Yes, after the fact he was pissed off and all, who wouldn't be? Man just grabs you by your shirt like you was his child. I don't grab my kid, but a child, because I know everybody likes to be technical because they're miserable. A child. And He stood his ground. By the way, Ludo's pretty strong. If Fierce don't stand his ground, he ends up on his back like that. I'm sorry, but as men, that just don't work. So I don't understand how Fierce got fined $25,000. I don't get it. I think it's, I think it is absolutely crazy that he got grabbed, held his ground, and then proceeded to get fined $25,000. But what I will say to the young fella, as someone who's had their fair share of shit in this league, you becoming a target. And these fines that you're gonna start getting may not even be deserving, but they'll start to happen. And they'll happen over and over again and again and again. And before you know it, you'll receive a different whistle than everybody. And before you know it, What's a flagrant foul on you and a flagrant foul on everybody else will be completely different. And before you know it, the whole standard towards you will change. So I'mma warn the young fella, be careful. Use your scrum, use your dust-ups wisely. Because what that $25,000 fine say to me is— Yeah. They got their eyes on you and they watching you. And it'll pick up and it'll become more and more and more. So I'll just say, be careful, young fella. However, in this league, the moment you lose respect, it's very hard to get it back and you must stand your ground. Yeah. 'Cause if you get threw on your back right there, respect is lost. And how do you get that back? So I say $25,000 well spent, although I don't think it was well deserved. Jayson Tatum is now, and we've heard a lot of news about JT that he'll be back this year possibly. You know, people have been watching his workouts and different things like that. And there had been kind of this running understanding of, or this running rumor that Jayson Tatum will come back this year. Jayson Tatum went on The Pivot this past weekend and just spoke on different things. And one thing that came of it was Jayson Tatum now saying like he don't, he'll probably, he may sit out the remainder of the season, which is kind of what everybody expected in the first place. You go through an Achilles injury, nobody's really expecting you back that fast. Um, and everybody's kind of a little worried that Jayson Tatum could be coming back too fast. Uh, but needless to say, it kind of sounds like he's switching tunes now and he won't be back, uh, this year and maybe he'll be back, um, next year as opposed to coming back this year. Um, I would Hate to see Jason Tatum come back this year. Not that I don't wanna see Jason Tatum on the court, but I want to see Jason Tatum take as much time as he can to get as healthy as he can. Not rush it back, not come back just because you're in a space where you can. Like, get right. Still in year 8, 9 of his career. Still got a long way to go. Think long, think the long game, play the long game is way more important than trying to, play 2 months of a season. Think the long game. So I hope Jason Tatum doesn't come back this year for that reason. But one thing that stuck out to me was Jason Tatum stated on the Pivot Podcast also that if I had the career I have right now with the Grizzlies, I would have a statue outside the arena right now. And I get what Jason Tatum is saying because with what he's done in Boston, Like his jersey will already be retired in Boston. He's got a championship, you know, all the All-NBA teams and All-Stars, you know, like, so he'll already be, get his jersey retired in Boston. But he's saying, I'll have a statue outside of Memphis. Yes, because Memphis has not seen, had the success for any player in their organization history that Jayson Tatum has had already in Boston. Yeah. And so he probably would have a statue out there, but it just also goes to show like the narrative around, um, different people's names and, and how it can affect different things and, and, and the places where you are, how it can affect your outcomes, um, in, in multiple different ways. And this is just one way, uh, but I more so brought that up just to say JT, you get your flowers here, brother. Your flowers are well deserved. I do agree that if you were in Memphis, you would have a statue outside, but just keep doing the good work, brother, because the work that you've been doing, you're gonna have a statue outside in Boston, and that may be even different and better than having one outside Memphis with the names that have been through the Boston Garden. So shout out to JT. Draymond Green. Hope recovery is going well and the flowers will always be given here because they are well deserved. And speaking of JT, a perennial All-Star, lastly around the association, Inside the NBA makes their All-Star Reserve picks ahead of Sunday's reveal. For the West, the consensus picks were across the four guys were D-Book, KD, Ant-Man, and Draymond Green all being reserves. Mm-hmm. They differ on the last 3 picks. Shaq has Danny, Danny Aivier, Shingun, and Chet Holmgren. Ernie has Aivier, Chet Holmgren, and LeBron. Kenny has Stephon Castle, Shingun, and LeBron. Chuck has Danny Aivier, Shingun, and Dylan Brooks. Yeah. For my West reserves, I'm going to also agree with them and go D-Book, KD, Anthony Edwards, Jamal Murray. I think Danny Aivier. I think, and the only reason I'm going with Danny Aivier, because his team record isn't good enough, but he's averaging 30 points a game. Almost 30 points a game. But I will warn you, Deni Avdija probably won't get in. He's not quite averaging 30, maybe like 28. Bradley Beal once averaged 33 on a losing team and didn't get in. So history holds true in the same standards. Deni Avdija will not get in. Al— Alfie Shingun will get in. Chet Holmgren will get in. And either Stephon Castle or Bron gets in. Dylan Brooks, I think, is playing at an All-Star level. Unfortunately for him, their team record just isn't high enough to get two guys over a Chet Holmgren or a Shingun or Stephon Castle or LeBron. All of those teams, all of those guys are on top 4 teams in the West. And I think that's what's ultimately going to hurt Dylan Brooks is I just don't know that their team record is good enough to warrant getting 2 in as opposed to these other guys who are, who are waiting. But make no mistake about it, I do think Dylan Brooks is playing at an All-Star level. And if he doesn't get in, probably should, depending on who get in, probably should be the first replacement if someone was able to, uh, not able to compete in the All-Star Game. Due to injury. Uh, in saying that, um, I gave you all my first 4 reserves. My next 3 will be Shingun, Stephon Castle, and LeBron. Um, LeBron because A, yes, he, he missed a bunch of games in the beginning of the season, still playing at a high level. B, Let's make no mistake about it, the All-Star Game is about money. If it wasn't about money, it'd be gone because it hasn't been interesting for 3 years. And LeBron sells tickets and it's in Los Angeles. That matters. And LeBron is still playing at a high level. That would be my 7 in the West. D-Book, KD, Ant Edwards, Ja'Marr Murray, Alferen Shingun, LeBron James, Stephon Castle. That would be my West reserves. Okay. In the East, they have 3 consensus, Jalen Duren, Brandon Ingram, Donovan Mitchell. Shaq has Scottie Barnes, Jalen Johnson, Norman Powell, and Josh Giddey. Ernie has Scottie Barnes, Jalen Johnson, Norman Powell, Karl Towns. Kenny has Paulo Banchero, Joel Embiid, Bam Adebayo, Karl Towns. Chuck has Scottie Barnes, Johnson, Adebayo, and Giddy. So Scottie Barnes is on here 3 times, and make no mistake about it, I think Scottie Barnes is an All-Star. So I'm going Scottie Barnes as my 4th. I'm going Jalen Johnson as my 5th. I'm going Norman Powell as my 6th. And for my last one, I am going to go Carl Towns. I think Carl Towns, uh, the Knicks have been pretty good in the East. Um, I think Carl Towns has been consistent, uh, from an availability standpoint. And obviously the numbers he's produced is always consistent. Uh, I think the Knicks are ranked high enough in the East to get 2 in. I just think, uh, Joel has missed a bunch of games. I think Bam, started off the season great, then missed a bunch of games and then kind of found, took a while to find his rhythm again. Same goes for Paulo. Um, and then Josh Giddey, uh, I, I just don't think, um, he's an all-star in my opinion. And so yeah, I'm gonna go Karl Towns. I think he is deserving. I think, like I said, with the availability and also the numbers that he's putting up plus team, I think Karl Towns deserves to round out my East reserves. So that's my reserves. We'll see on Sunday who will make the East from the reserve standpoint, but it's pretty clear Jalen Dern will be a first-time All-Star. And it comes at a good time because he didn't accept, uh, whatever contract extension the Pistons were trying to give him. He did not accept it. He bet on himself and his bet and his gamble is about to pay off well. So shout out to Jalen Dern on being a first-time All-Star this year. Has to happen. But in the day and age where Bill Belichick don't get into the Hall of Fame, you never know. As promised, before we get out of here, we will go have a Golden Days moment. And for those of you who don't know, send your questions and Warriors memories to draymondgreen@audacy.com. And today our moment comes from Evan. So much gets made of KD joining the squad in 2016, but what was the feeling in the Warriors locker room and/or group chat when you guys added Boogie to the squad in 2018 coming off back-to-back championship seasons? And what part did you play in bringing him aboard? So when we got Boogie, we were excited as hell. Obviously Boogie was coming off a great year, had just torn Achilles, but he was averaging, 30 and 12, 30 and 13 or something before he— something crazy before he got hurt. So then for us, it's like, man, we get to get DeMarcus Cousins. Yeah, he'll be coming off the injury. We don't really need him to be great immediately coming off the injury. This actually gives him a situation where he can kind of work his way back into it and not have to try to overproduce and work himself too hard. We have a great team. He can work himself back into it. And then when he get up to par, Watch out. And we were excited as hell. And everybody was excited because not often do you just get to add a DeMarcus Cousins at that point in his career. A guy who was just about to sign a max contract. It's crazy. Perennial All-Star. We were excited as hell. Like, man, yep, we're gonna win it again. And we were, but things happened and we didn't, but it's fine. Anyway, that was an exciting time for us. I still remember getting a call from Bob Myers. You know, I was on vacation with my wife. We were in Santorini, Greece, and I was sitting at dinner with my wife right on the cliff looking over the water. And Bob calls my phone. I tell my wife, I gotta take this call. I'm sorry, I know we're at dinner, it's romantic. I have to take this call. And Bob calls me, he's like in a panic, like hyperventilating. Like, so the market's dried up. I think we can get DeMarcus Cousins. I'm like, what? He's like, I think we can get DeMarcus Cousins. I'm like, for who? How? Like, we don't have the money. He like, no, I think we can get him on our taxpayer. What do you think? I said, if you can get DeMarcus Cousins, you get, you fucking get DeMarcus Cousins. He's like, I know. I think we gotta do it. All right, I'm gonna call you back. He calls me back and he's like, "Yo, you gonna need to call him. I think he need to talk to you." Apparently me and Cuz had gotten into it that year or something. He's like, "He need to talk to you and make sure you cool with it." I'm like, "Man, I don't care about that. I fuck with Cuz." And we talking and he's like, "Man, I would love to come. Like if y'all are cool though, like I don't just wanna come and you know, the GM want me there, y'all don't, man." We like, "Cuz, brother, we would love to have you." Absolutely. And I'll make every sacrifice, any sacrifice I need to make for it to happen. So I was happy as hell. Um, and that's kind of the role I played, just giving my yes, we want you here. But man, I mean, what a time. Like, you're coming off back-to-back championships and you get to add DeMarcus Cousins to the fold. Obviously didn't turn out the way we wanted it to turn out. Cousins was working his way back then, you know, he tore his quad tendon while working his way back and then had to get back from that. And, you know, ultimately we lost in the NBA Finals. Didn't quite work out the way we wanted or thought that it would work out. But if you gave us the opportunity, you go back to that day and you say, "Yo, y'all can sign DeMarcus Cousins," make no mistake about it, I will make the same decision today. Because maybe the injury, the next injury don't happen and it actually does work out. Or maybe Kevin Durant doesn't tear his Achilles and it actually does work out. Or maybe Klay Thompson doesn't tear his ACL a game later and it still actually does work out. So make no mistake about it, would make the same decision over again because you just don't get to add talents like DeMarcus Cousins. Yeah. Every day. They just, they're a dime a dozen. They don't come around often. So when you get the opportunity, our team was in a good enough position where we could take the swing and we took the swing. And ultimately we had a successful year. It just didn't end the way we wanted it to end. But it happens. But that was a great time. Wow. It's nice. I wanna thank you all again for tuning in to the Draymond Green Show. We've got a homestand coming up, 2-game homestand, Pistons, and then we got the 76ers before we head out back on the road. We need to get these 2 wins coming back home. That first game is always tough. The Pistons are currently having a tough one against the Suns and they're a very prideful team. So if they're not able to come back in this game, they're definitely gonna come out guns blazing. So I'm gonna go get myself ready for these young guns coming in here. Y'all take care of yourselves. Until next time, we gotta keep getting these Ws. Deuces.
