Passion Is the Gateway Drug Playcast, Episode 1, "A Call to the Mothers"

In this extended first‑person talk, the speaker recounts a psychotic episode at age 19 that was diagnosed as bipolar disorder, describing a decade of painful experiences within a broken mental‑health system. While acknowledging the suffering, she also highlights the blessings of self‑inquiry and personal learning that emerged. This dual perspective fuels her passion for systemic reform. She introduces the collaborative project “A Call to the Mothers,” co‑created with two Toronto‑based women, Hillary and Romila. The project is framed not as a women‑only initiative but as a call to the nurturing, mother‑like energy present in all people and in Mother Earth. Their process, called “A Taste of Wonderland,” consists of four stages: (1) naming the cracks in the current system, (2) grieving the losses and wounds, (3) exploring a wide spectrum of alternative healing modalities (equine therapy, HeartMath, VR, traditional Chinese medicine, art therapy, etc.), and (4) a prototyping exercise dubbed “Mad Hatter in the Strange Brew,” where participants combine a crack, a grief point, and an innovative solution to imagine new healing centers. The speaker envisions building a comprehensive, open‑access database of research and development, leveraging immersive technologies (XR, VR, domes, dance) to create experiential workshops. She articulates a broader dream of “Liberation Foundations,” a decentralized network of holistic, regenerative community healing spaces that are free of cost and institutional gatekeeping. The talk calls for grassroots participation, personal responsibility, and a shift away from reliance on traditional institutions toward a co‑creative, neuro‑diverse future for mental health and addiction care.
