5 Warnings When Using AI in Bible Study

Justin R. Lester warns against five pitfalls of AI in Bible study: it can hallucinate and spread false information, it carries hidden biases, it can replace the spiritual work of wrestling with Scripture, over-reliance weakens your spiritual disciplines, and it raises privacy and ethics concerns. Test everything.

I want to give you five warnings when using AI for using your Bible study. Check this out. AI can hallucinate, which means it's going to give you false and fabricated information. So I want you to always double check your resources because in that scripture tells us in all things to test all things first. Thessalonians, chapter 5. So what do we do? The warnings I want to give you is bias culture and ideological biases that are hidden in training data. Be aware of knowing and maybe not knowing, but then also understanding who shaped the tool and the people who made these tools may not always have your sense of discernment or understanding or cultural lens. Number two is a loss of spiritual discernment. Tools help us, but the Holy Spirit still wants us to wrestle with the truth. Wrestle with the Gospel, that is us forcing sin out and allowing holiness to come in. So no matter what, do not allow AI to replace your understanding of God's word. Allow it to enhance it. Number three is over reliance. I've seen this too often where I've seen people become too overly reliant or we're outsourcing our spiritual tasks like your prep, your devotional time, your time with God instead of allowing it to work your muscles. Imagine if you went to the gym and just looked at the weights. These tools can help you, but don't let them replace your time in the gospel. Then lastly, ethical concerns. Think about privacy, your data, how your input and your AI is used, and whether these tools respect your dignity. I want you to think about a tool that you're currently using and I want you to take it with a sense of, I don't know, sense of understanding. And make sure that you're testing all things and not just using anything because it's great. Listen, these tools are amazing. These tools are great for church. But here are five warnings I want you to understand when using AI for your Bible study. Like and follow for more tips and tricks on AI in the local church in your faith walk. And know this, God is not surprised by this. Don't act like that, but use it well. Use it wisely and let's use it to build the kingdom like in.

AI gives you hours back every week. Most people's first move is to fill those hours with more work.

Most people stall out on AI at the exact same step. They don't know where to start.
