There are so many Quick Words that I want to record, and I have trouble deciding which one to do. But one of my mentors once told me, and I use this to kind of move through and produce more content is it doesn't matter which one you do. Just pick one. You can always do the next one later. You can always do the one after that. It really doesn't matter as long as you choose one and do it. That's actually the most important thing because otherwise we indulge in, you know, the analysis by paralysis. It's like, oh, which one is gonna be better? Which one is gonna be more useful to more people? How many more people are experiencing this right now than this? What's more relevant in the world? Like, this is what my brain goes through. And literally it does not matter. It's just about picking one and recording on it. So that's what I'm gonna do. And right now I'm just gonna pick on the fly right now. So I'm gonna talk about the how. I'm gonna talk about the reason why we wanna know how to do everything. And really the how is something that is engineered along the way. So if you wanna get a new job, because this is what this podcast is about, Or you wanna get a promotion or you wanna hit a career goal, whatever that may be for you. You might be like, but how do I do it? Right? The question is always the how. How do I do that? Right? And we wanna know what steps should I take? Who should I contact? What should I say? How should I talk to them? How many people should I contact? Right? And we want a formula for the exact step-by-step. But the truth is, is that nobody could ever tell you what that formula was until you had done it. Right. And myself having done a lot of things, I couldn't ever have told you that that's how it was going to work. I couldn't have ever told you that is how I was gonna get the job. So I'll use the example of when I got my, when I was laid off in 2014 and I decided I wanted to get a job in a tech company downtown in my hometown, Victoria, and I wanted it to be for a tech company and I wanted it to be fun and I had a vibe and I knew what I wanted. And I didn't know how it was gonna happen. I had no idea how. And this kind of crosses over to like manifesting. It's like, okay, we're gonna manifest this thing. We want this thing to happen, but people tell you, they're like, oh, well, don't worry about the how. Forget the how. Like, don't focus on the how, right? But I'm like, how do you not focus on the how? We need to know the how so we can move towards it. And here's the secret. It's not about the whole how laid out with the steps. We don't need that. We just need the next step. So my next step, for example, would be like, okay, I'm gonna go on the jobs boards and I'm gonna look at the jobs. I'm gonna look at my hometown, had this company and it was called ViaTech and they have all the tech companies listed and it's like a membership. They can all join this ViaTech community and it's like the tech hub of my hometown. So I'm like, you know what? I'm gonna look there. I'm gonna see what tech companies there are. So that was my next step. And this is my brain, my intuition, whatever you wanna call it, my inner knowing saying, okay, this is what you want. So this would be your next step. You would go find these companies or you would go on the job boards and see which ones of these companies might be hiring. Or you might go on LinkedIn and see who you know that works at some of these companies, right? So that was my next step. And then my step after that, like I didn't have it all laid out before I did it. Like that's not how it worked. I couldn't like make a big, big plan and then follow it step by step and expect it all to fall into place properly. No, it was just one step at a time. So that was my first 3 steps. And then another step was I would do a cover letter and then I would apply for some places. I would write my cover letter. And of course my mindset was a big part of it. I was like, I'm really good at writing. I love writing cover letters. Gives me a chance to kind of be a bit fun and quirky instead of just having bullet-pointed resume stuff. That's my next step. I'm gonna write a cool cover letter and I'm gonna apply to this company. I'm gonna reach out to this person who works at this company, right? So fast forward to the end of it. I ended up getting a referral from somebody's wife. So the way that I got that job was somebody I used to work with. At the company that we got laid off from, her husband worked at a tech company downtown and he'd worked there for like 13 years and he was very well respected, well known within this company. And his wife knew me and we'd worked together and I had actually onboarded her. I was part of the HR and when she came on, I did a really good job of onboarding her cuz I'm really good at being a good host for people. If you ever come visit my house, you'll be very impressed by the treatment that you get. I like to be a good host anyway. So she's starting in the company and I made sure that she had everything she needed. I answered her questions. I was there for her. I made sure she had a comfortable chair to sit in. You know, I was very on top of everything and she really, really appreciated that and she remembered that. So then when a job opening came up in her husband's company, she's like, oh, Natalie, we should see if she's available and we should put her resume forward cuz she would be awesome. So then I got a message randomly from her saying, hey, would you be interested in applying for my husband's company? They have this opening. And the opening actually had not been posted. Apparently they had been trying to find somebody for this opening for months and they just gave up and they stopped, but they still wanted to find the person, but they just, they'd interviewed a lot and they just hadn't found the right person. They just kind of put it on hold and they were like, you know what, we're just not doing it. So when he brought me forward to the VP of engineering at the time, He's like, yeah, okay, let's interview her. That sounds good. She sounds good. So I came in and they offered me the job. It was like, I think in my second interview right away they offered it and they offered me exactly what I wanted for salary. And this was crazy, right? Because I could have never told you, oh, somebody I worked with in the past, her husband's gonna work at a tech company and she's gonna recommend me to her husband. Then her husband's gonna put my resume forward and then I'm gonna get hired at that tech company downtown, which happened to be Exactly what I wanted, right? The criteria, the pay, the vibe. It was the most fun experience, right? And then that's where I'm going to get a 6-figure job in HR, and that's how it's gonna go. There's no way that I could have known that. There's no way that I could have engineered that how, right? I could have made a big plan and I could have said, I'm gonna apply for 100 jobs a day and I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do that, I'm gonna do this. And I could have never predicted how that was going to happen. Right? So what I wanna leave you with is when you show up in the world and you're like, yep, this is what I'm doing. This is what is happening. What is my next step? What is my next step? And you just keep asking yourself what your next step is, and then you keep doing the next step. Everything else will come together for you. The forces of the universe will come together and you don't know how, but they will facilitate this happening for you. So that is part of what I teach in my program, magic happens every day. And this process took a little while. It wasn't like overnight, but it can happen fast when you're really aligned. And it can happen slow when you're really sad sacky and have a bad attitude, right? Or when you keep giving up, when you keep getting discouraged, or when you keep comparing yourself with others, or when you keep going back to negative emotions that really just don't get you in that action that you need to get into. Like they don't get you into that vibe. That's what I wanted to share with you today is you will never know the how, and that's okay. The how is actually not your business. You just need to know the next step and then the step after that, and then the step after that until it happens. All the while knowing that it's just done, right? You've decided it's happening. It's done. All right, my friends, thanks for listening, and I'll talk to you on the next podcast. Bye.
