Ep #167: 3 Things to Do to Land Your 6-Figure Job This Year
25 Sept 2023 · 18 min
In this solo coaching episode of the Get a Six‑Figure Job You Love and Thrive podcast, host Natalie Fisher shares three concrete actions that can help listeners secure a six‑figure role within the year. She frames the advice around insights from her Six Figure Curriculum and the ongoing 8‑week challenge, citing client breakthroughs as evidence. The first action is to embrace "imperfect action," breaking the perfectionist and over‑analysis paralysis that stalls progress. The second is to master the VCVC (Value Creation / Value Communication) framework, which helps job seekers articulate how their contributions will pay for their salary and align with employer goals. The third is to position oneself in high‑value environments, shifting mindset and standards to attract premium opportunities rather than low‑ball offers. Throughout, Fisher emphasizes mindset shifts, blind‑spot awareness, and practical steps, and concludes with a call to leave a podcast review in exchange for a free $97 course on why candidates get interviews but no offers.

Welcome to the Get a Six-Figure Job You Love and Thrive podcast. This is episode 167, 3 Things to Do to Land Your Six-Figure Job This Year. Stay tuned. Welcome to the Get a Six-Figure Job You Love and Thrive podcast, where I, Natalie Fisher, am teaching you weekly how to land your premium role that you love and thrive in it. Let's go. Hello. Hello. So I am really excited for several reasons. I'm going to tell you what's going on in the land of Natalie Fisher Coaching and the program, the Six Figure Curriculum, and the ecosystem that is the business that I've created around helping people land six-figure jobs. So first of all, I think I might've mentioned it a couple podcasts ago, or I've told you about it, but we had a really big influx of new people joining the Six Figure Curriculum and started the 8-week challenge. And everybody has been really amazing and they've been posting their insights every day. They post an insight or a win or a question. They're actively participating in there in the challenge. And it's been great so far. And we're only just getting started, but the amazing breakthroughs that people are having, I thought it was worth coming onto the podcast to talk about a few of the noteworthy ones and a few of the common ones, because it might help you too on the podcast listening. So what I wanted to talk to you today about was the 3 things to do to land the 6-figure job you want this year. So I'm all about simplifying things, keeping things really simple. And so what I'm noticing is that, and from what I learned, because every time I coach more people and I interact with more people, I just learn more about how to help people get 6-figure jobs and how to make this process easier and simpler. And not necessarily easier, but like simpler. So if we can make it the simplest thing you do, the simplest action you have to take, the simplest things that you have to think, they're like breakthroughs, but they're, they're simple because once you get it, you're like, oh, okay, okay, that makes sense, right? And that's kind of what I feel like is happening inside the group is people are really living in breakthrough. They're doing the work. They're taking on the challenge and they're serious about it. They're serious about it. So The first one is taking imperfect action. I can't tell you how many people have said that that was one of their biggest breakthroughs is I realized how I was in perfectionist mode, how I was being perfectionist, and then letting the imperfect action version of you drive, the version of you who knows what you need to do, but you know that you can't do it perfectly or you'll never do it, letting that version of you drive, right? And that is already creating huge momentum and huge shifts and even offers already happening, right? So offers that now need to be negotiated are happening from just that simple shift of like, I need to take this imperfect action. I can't wait until it's perfect. So I've had some people say, yes, I was waiting until, you know, the conditions were perfect or the environment was perfect to be able to take action. And just so many things that through the prompts, through the challenge, they're realizing that they were in perfectionist mode, even though they might not have recognized it as perfectionist mode. Before, right? So it's very eye-opening to see, oh, I didn't know I was being perfectionist, but that was a perfectionist behavior and that was holding me back. And that's what I call a blind spot because we all have them. We all have blind spots. A blind spot is an area that you can't immediately see but is very, very close to you. So it's so close to you that you can't see it. So that is a very clear blind spot, a very clear thing that needs to happen if you're going to land a 6-figure job this year, because it's all about the imperfect action, right? And so what tends to happen is if you're an overthinker, if you like to overthink a lot of things and you find yourself in research mode, you find yourself thinking about a lot of things, maybe taking a lot of passive action, including taking another course or even coming to a lot of free trainings on LinkedIn about job searching, But still not having landed the job or not having that serious momentum going on, not having that certainty that it's happening, that you're on the track, that you're doing it, is because there isn't enough imperfect action happening. Because when you start to take the imperfect action, you start to feel the momentum, you start to feel the shifts, and you start to feel it happening. So that's a feeling. So that is the first one, and that one is huge, right? And even just that one shift alone. Can completely change your trajectory. If you wake up and you start taking imperfect action every day, and you start doing it from a state of flow, from a state of alignment, from which I teach you how to do through the program, then that is, that's going to change your life completely. If you are somebody who researches a lot, right? Or who is in that state. Now, others of you, the other one, this one is about the value communication. So there's the VCVC method that I'm going deep on inside the program this, this month. We're having a masterclass and I'm going to be going in there with volunteers and breaking down each one of their value creations and value communications so that they'll be clear. And then we'll have a ton of examples inside the program so people can see exactly how that works. Okay, so this is what's happening. A lot of people think that they have great stories. They That they are communicating well, that they are connecting, right? And this could be a symptom of you're going to interviews, right? You're getting interviews and you think, but they're going great, right? Like, it's just that when I don't hear back or they tell me they went with someone else or something happens, then I'm left to wonder, well, I don't know what happened. I just don't know what happened. And it's a really frustrating place to be because you're like, I have no idea. Like, I really have no idea. And then it's kind of you're left thinking that it's some weird nebulous thing that you can't possibly ever know or find out or solve for, and that is very frustrating. So we're kind of thinking like, oh, the universe has screwed me over. The universe doesn't want me to get this job, or whatever it is. It's like the it's nebulous and uncontrollable, right? And that's. A pattern that people tend to fall into when they've been interviewing for a long time and not succeeding or getting any offers, or they get the same result where people don't respond or they hire someone else. And so, what I've been noticing there is that it is a blind spot issue with the value creation and value communication. So, when we really dig in, somebody can tell me, oh no, my stories are great. I'm connecting. It's all feeling great, right? And this sounds like they really believe this and like this is really true, but in my mind I'm thinking, well, it can't always be going great. Like, you can think it is, but it's obviously not because they're not like knocking down your door to hire you, right? So there's something missing in the value creation and the value communication, and that is what I'm finding. That's kind of the the missing piece that's normally sitting in the blind spot that you don't see. So, for example, I might ask somebody who says this, who says, "Oh, my stories are great. We're connecting great. I really have no idea." And so I might say, "Okay, did you lay it out so that basically you being hired as an employee would be free? Like you would be free. The best employees are free." Why are they free? Because they demonstrate so clearly how they pay for themselves by being hired already, and then some. So when I pose that question, when I say, okay, was it so clearly laid out that the value that you would bring when hired cancels out the salary that you're making because you've already paid for it based on the value, then is that— 100% true, like on a 1 to 10 scale. And it totally gives a shift and they're like, no, I don't. I'm not doing that. I don't know how to do that. How do I do that? Right? So that is where the VCVC method comes in. And that's where we break down literally your stories, what you're talking about, the results you've gotten in the past, the things you've done in the past. And then we break them down and then apply them so that they're relevant to the employer that you're interviewing with. And then you can present this information in a way where you're like, this is the value that I bring. This is what I would be doing. This is the revenue that I'd be bringing in. And people that like to say it's not just about money, right? They're like, well, it's not just about money. It was like a cultural shift or it was like a morale boost. And I was just like, yeah, but that stuff is money. Like all of it comes down to money, right? Like morale boost lowers turnover, which means that like they're not spending so much money on replacing people or they're Increasing the productivity of people because they're happier. And we do conservative guesses, but even with conservative guesses, we get to the point where you feel so confident that you have created more than the value that you're asking for in salary. So, that is usually what's not happening. And when that's not happening, it's very specific and it's very clear when I ask those particular questions. So, that's what I really dive into in the VCVC method. And I wanted to do this because I noticed that that was happening a lot. So it's normally the 2 types of people. It's like you're not taking enough action. You're not, you know, taking enough imperfect action. You're taking a really long time to make little decisions, not wanting to mess things up, kind of paralysis by analysis kind of thing. That's one group of people. And so they're having certain types of breakthroughs so that they're getting through and taking the imperfect action and they're having a great time doing it. And then there's the other type of person who can get Like, who can be like, I am taking a ton of action. I am, because they're getting interviews, right? So if they get interviews, that means they have taken that action to get the interviews and they've figured out how to do that, which is great. And then they're not closing the interviews. So they're thinking, oh, I just don't know what's going on. I don't know. Right. So, so that's what I'm finding as one of the big reasons why that's not happening, right? The identifying of the value isn't clear. So you've created it. We all like, My clients have created the value already. That's not in question. It's just about them having identified it clearly, and then them knowing how to communicate it clearly and relevantly so that it makes sense. Right? It's basically like this is no brainer. Right? This is a no brainer decision to hire this person because of what they've presented here and the way that they understand what we need. And that is the process. Right? So that needs to happen, and that's not happening. And so. If you think your stories are great and if you think you're connecting great, it's not, like there's something missing, right? And it's not a big nebulous thing that you can't fix. It's something that can be fixed. We can get to the bottom of it, okay? And then the third is positioning yourself in high-value environments, which was a big part of what we covered. It was the entire day of day 3 of the masterclass series is you can do those things, right? You can take the imperfect action, then you can go interview and you can present the value, But then if you're in— if you keep positioning yourself over and over in low-value environments because you don't have the belief that high-value environments exist, or you don't know that they would pay you that much, or you don't know what they look like yet, then you won't get the 6-figure job either because you just keep getting lowball offers, right? And that makes sense, right? So I had one, one person going through the challenge who received an offer that was very low, and it made sense to me because her mindset has always been low-value environments. That's where she's worked her whole life until now, right? So she's just learning to explore the fact that high-value environments exist and that that's like a thing she can do. She can raise her mindset and her standards to understand that they exist and see evidence of that and then attract like a position in a high-value environment by going through the steps in the program. So she's learning that. She's like, oh, okay, I get that now. But the fact that she's attracted a low-value opportunity makes sense because of work she had previously done. But the amazing part for her, for example, was that she, she negotiated right back, right? And she was like, she, she clearly had a mindset of like, okay, this is pretty low, right? Instead of previously where she might have accepted it, she might not have said anything about it. She might have just thought, oh yeah, that's how it is. That's what I'll have to accept, right? So the beautiful thing about that is the mindset shifts that are occurring, the things that are happening, the elevation of standards. And the elevation of possibilities that are occurring. And those are essentially the 3 things. So seeing the results and seeing the breakthroughs just really inspires me to keep moving and keep making this the best thing that I could have wanted for myself when I was laid off. And like the multiple times that I was laid off or left and really just doing this so that those of you who could have ended up in a position that was a low value environment. And then, you know, maybe you end up having to quit that low-value environment, or you just can't stand it like I did, or like, just so that you can sidestep that stuff so that you don't have to go through it. And a lot of people think that, like, that that's their only choice, right? They might think— like, I thought that. I thought, oh yeah, I better take this. This is my only choice. They're offering me something right now. And I took it, and then I ended up 3 months later having to quit, hating it every day. And that cost me a lot of time. That cost me 3 months. Of just like misery, so I wasn't happy. And then planning my escape, thinking like spending time and energy, like a lot of mental energy on how I was going to leave, on how I was going to get out of there, on looking again for another opportunity. And all that mental space and energy was taken up in that three months' time when I should have just said no to that position in the first place, right? And I'm not talking about like if you're going to be bankrupt or something and you have bills to pay. Like, don't use what I say against yourself. Like, I'm just saying this was the reality for me, and I know it's the reality for many of my clients because they are currently working in a job where they have finances and resources for right now, but they want to do something that they enjoy. That's important. That's top of the list. It's not about just taking whatever you can get, and it's about understanding And believing in your bones that opportunities are abundant and that there are premium opportunities. There are amazing high-value opportunities available that you just need to learn to see, right? And if you don't know they exist or you've never seen one, you're not used to that being a thing, then you won't see them as easily. And it was funny with my client because she was like, I just, I always see low-value opportunities because that's where I came from. And That's what it feels like. And I believe she's in education and they just don't pay very much and they just don't treat you very well. And this stuff needs to change. But she's like, I decided I wanted to leave that. And with her skills and her value, I immediately think of high-value opportunities. And I start thinking of the high-value opportunities that could be possibilities for her because that's where I came from. So it's funny how her brain goes in one direction because that's the That's the habit. That's what she's known her whole life. And then my brain goes in the complete opposite direction because that's what I've known my whole life. So kind of why I'm here doing this work, why I'm sharing this with you. And if you're here listening and you, you feel that pull, you resonate with what I'm saying, start moving in, in a different direction now. And this can change really fast for you. It can turn around really fast. So some of my favorite thoughts are, I can turn this around. I can fix it. If I lose money, I can make it back. If I mess something up, I can learn from it.
