Ep #198: The 68 SPECIFIC Reasons You're Not Getting Offers (& How to Solve Them)
29 Apr 2024 · 28 min
In this episode of the "Get a Six‑Figure Job You Love and Thrive" podcast, host Natalie Fisher explains why many job seekers fail to receive offers despite applying and interviewing. She introduces the "iceberg" analogy, contrasting visible tactics (resume tweaks, application volume) with hidden, internal blockers that lie beneath the surface—such as doubt, fear, identity conflict, perfectionism, and misaligned self‑value. Fisher reveals that she has compiled 68 specific internal reasons into a forthcoming PDF/ebook, each paired with a reframing and solution. She describes how the resource will be bundled with her Six‑Figure Curriculum program and a new "Writing with the VCVC Wand" challenge starting May 12, which focuses on daily value‑creation and value‑communication writing to attract opportunities. Throughout, she shares client anecdotes, emphasizes the need for deep mindset work over superficial tactics, differentiates her approach from other career coaches, and offers a free $97 course (8 Reasons) to listeners who leave a podcast review. The episode serves both as a preview of the 68‑reason resource and a promotional call‑to‑action for her program, community, and upcoming challenge.

Welcome to the Get a Six-Figure Job You Love and Thrive podcast. This is episode 198, the 68 specific reasons you're not getting offers and how to solve them. Stay tuned. Welcome to the Get a Six-Figure Job You Love and Thrive podcast, where I, Natalie Fisher, am teaching you weekly how to land your premium role that you love and thrive in it. Let's go. All right. This episode is to talk about the specific reasons people are not getting offers. This is my whole problem that I've been solving for the last 8 years. And this has kind of all come together into this one thing that I've been working on to create the most value that I can this year as one of my goals that I talked about in January. So I'm not going to be able to go through the 68 reasons on this podcast. It would take too long. But what I am going to do is I'm going to share with you a little bit and give you a little bit of a sneak peek into this book that I'm writing. It's a resource that goes inside my program and how it's going to be used and how it came to be. In the 3-day training that I do, which is the first module of my program, and that's free and that's coming up, or it's already happened and you can watch replay. I think it's already happened by the time you're listening to this. And you can watch the replays of those 3 days. I talk about this concept called the iceberg. And if you can imagine on the screen, there's an iceberg and there's the tip of the iceberg and above the water, there is the tactical things, the results that people have gotten. So for example, applied for 200 jobs, got no response, went to 30 interviews, got no response or didn't get the offer, right? Or paid someone to do my resume, still didn't get the results I wanted. Things like that. On the top of the iceberg are the things you say, right? The things you're like, oh, I've been doing this and I've been doing that. I just haven't had any results. It's not working. And you tell people the things you have done, right? And those are the actions. And then below the iceberg is all the stuff That is in the blind spot, people's blind spots, right? And so that is what I work with inside my program. And most coaches, they talk about how to apply differently, right? Or how to tweak your resume or how to change the words or how to present your experience, how to tweak the COVID letter, how to reach out to someone on LinkedIn, how to send a different message, things like that, right? And so underneath the iceberg, this is really what I like to work on. What I like to do is get to the root and the core of it, because if those things were really what was going to change someone's results, if they were really just going to be able to send in more resumes, or if they were really just going to be able to change the words in the answer that they gave, or if they were just going to be able to try a new template and have that work, then they would have success. Like, that would be working, right? And I'm that person. I was doing all that stuff, right? I was doing all the templates. I was trying all the things. I was doing over and over and over actions that weren't working and trying to do the same ones 5 times harder, right? So I know that that stuff isn't really what gets us the results, but a lot of people are still thinking that it does. So with this iceberg analogy, I feel like it really kind of hit home for people. And then I came up with another analogy for it as well, just in case, and I'll share that a little later. But underneath the iceberg, under the water, is the doubt, the fear, the worry, the stop-start cycle that gets caused by the doubt and fear, the worry, confusion. The fact that you changed directions and kind of gave up on what you wanted, and in your mind decided you were having to settle for something less, or changed, accepted something lower. You have incongruent beliefs about what's possible for you. Like, your beliefs are messed up. You have some sort of insufficiency, like you're feeling a little bit out of sorts, right? Like, you're not feeling aligned. You're spinning, looping in the same ineffective thought patterns and feeling patterns, and you're being this person who's struggling. Your imperfectionism, trying to get things perfect, not putting enough out there, struggling with your identity of maybe switching into a new field or a new profession that maybe you haven't been before. Maybe your whole life you've been something and you want to change that. And that's wrestling with your identity, right? It's your mind thinks it's not safe, but that's what you want. And the list goes on. There's so many things underneath that iceberg, right, that we don't see. And so the 68 Reasons book is essentially those reasons one by one and explained and showing, okay, this is the problem. This is how you think about it differently. This is how you can solve it. And then my goal for it is for you to have this document and for you to skim through it, like look through it and be like, that's me. That's not me. That's me. That's not me. And maybe pick a few that are you and then come and get deeper help with it in the coaching calls inside my program. So anyways, The goal of doing this is so that there's going to be a solution for you, because otherwise the alternative is simply having more action, more things to do, right? More tactics, a new template, a new resume style, or a new resume order, right? And that is not what at the end of the day Gets you where you want to go. It's not what gets somebody to say yes to you. It's not what puts you in front of the person. It's all that stuff that's deeper that we don't look at, that we don't see. So I had one client who said— she was so funny. She joined the program and she goes, I'm an iceberg. I'm thawing out right now. She's like, I'm thawing. And she spent a month on the mindset work, and then she landed the role that got her everything she wanted, every box checked. So she's kind of the epitome of someone who resonated with this. And she was like, oh yes, I am not doing the inner work. I didn't know. Like, and a lot of people maybe think that this is something you go to therapy for or something. And maybe you can. I have been to one therapist in my life. I didn't enjoy it and didn't resonate with it. But I know that there are really good therapists out there. And so yes, that might help, right? But I'm, as a coach, looking for Finding that stuff, but then moving forward, right? Because for me, it's like, oh, as soon as we find that thing, then it's like, oh, okay, great, we have shined the light on it, and now we can create a plan moving forward. But otherwise, it's just like— this is my second analogy— is like doing plastic surgery on something, right? To try to fix the external, right? It's like trying to fix the external thing, but the internal thing is still a problem. So for example, if someone is overeating, And because of their overeating, they're overweight because that makes sense. You're giving your body extra food. Therefore, it's creating storing more of that food on your body, right? And then you think, oh, I just need to get liposuction. That will fix my problem, right? And then you go and you get liposuction, and then you still are overeating. That fat needs somewhere to go. It still needs to get stored somewhere, right? So it'll get stored. on your arms, or it'll get stored on your bum, or it'll get stored somewhere else in your body, like on your thighs. And it's like you haven't addressed the root cause of the problem, right? So that's always going to keep plaguing you. It's going to keep coming back, right? So this was kind of the lesson that I learned the hard way, was just like continuing to try to solve the external. And like, I would do anything to solve the external. I would try anything, pay ridiculous amounts of money, and it wasn't ever going to solve it because it was always the stuff underneath the iceberg that I didn't know to look at or that I hadn't figured out or that I didn't have someone hold up a mirror and show me, that's what you're doing. Maybe the work was uncomfortable, right? But through it got me the results I wanted and got me the lessons that I needed so that I could then create results again and again. And I could feel that empowerment of doing it, right? So it's like, it feels so much better to create the result of not overeating consistently every day, and then have your result that way, because that is then your life. That is then what you can do for the rest of your life. You know, because you've changed your mindset now. Now you're not someone who overeats anymore. And you, you will just have the byproduct of a body that doesn't store extra fat on your body. That's all it will be, right? So with these 68 reasons, that's my goal is kind of like saying, okay, we're gonna pick— and this comes from every coaching call that I've done with so many people over and over and over and over. And I've kind of just put it into one document where it's so simply laid out where it's like, we are going to solve this problem for you. So I want to kind of give you a little bit of a preview of it. So there's 2 problems. One is I'm not getting interviews in the first place. And that's a whole set of internal reasons why you're not getting interviews in the first place. Right. And people immediately will say it's because of your resume. And I'm like, there's maybe a 1% chance that's the case, but there's 99% chance it's something else. And so I've delineated out each one of those reasons as to why you are not getting interviews. Okay. And then the other problem is I'm getting interviews, lots of them, and they're going great, maybe, right? And I'm not getting any offers. And that's kind of where that started was people were saying to me a lot, they're like, I keep getting interviews, but I'm not getting offers. What am I doing wrong? Right? That was probably the question I've been asked most of my whole career, right? And so, I went to work to solve it. So, that's the other part of it. And so, with this book, it's going to be basically the holy grail of clarity around why you haven't been able to land the offer you want yet. Okay? And in a world where in this process we don't get feedback, it's basically impossible to figure that out on our own, right? Unless we are willing to do that deeper work. every day on ourselves, right? And we need tools to do that. We need someone to show us how to do that. I mean, I know I did. I would have never been able to do this on my own. So I know that there's a reason for you, right? And the reason is not because there's something wrong with you. It's not because inherently you're not as smart as the other candidate. It's not because you don't have enough certifications or a degree 99% of the time. It's not because of your experience level. It's none of those things. It's not because of your race or because of where you're located or because of your accent or because of all these things that people think it is. It's none of those things. 'Cause I've coached so many people and they all come from different walks of life and they all come from, they're all very, very, very different people. Okay. So my niche is like more energetic. I'm like, I have an energetic niche. I don't have like a specific customer avatar that I serve. I'm just like, it's whoever resonates with what I'm saying and wants to come and work with me. You're my person. Okay. So because of that, I get a lot of people that I get the honor of helping, right? And some of them are brand new grads and some of them are in their 70s and some of them have lots of experience and some of them have hardly any. Some of them are switching industries and some of them have been in the same industry for years and are now having a new challenge in that industry, right? Or it's all over the map and I love it that way. So I'm like, bring all your things. Come and challenge me, right? Because I want to get better at helping you. And so because of this, and with that in mind, I created this bonus resource, which is now going to live inside the Six Figure Curriculum program. And it's going to be available for those of you who are joining this round. So we're going to be starting on May 12th. We're going to be starting another challenge, which I'll be announcing, and you will get this bonus as part of it. And The program itself is already so rich, it's already so packed, it's already so there ready to help you start wherever you are at. And now with this extra resource, it's just meant to just pinpoint faster, right? So you can go in there and be like, okay, that's me, that's not me. Like, let's figure that out, let's figure that out. Breakthrough, breakthrough, bam, bam, bam. Okay, that's the goal of this. Okay. And that's never something that you're gonna get from Someone who just keeps telling you the tactics of what to do, right? And it's so interesting to me. Like I do watch my competition and I'll watch people who offer other programs kind of like mine, or they offer other programs with like the same promise. Like I'm going to help you get a job or whatever, and they might have great testimonials too. But the thing is, is like yes, some people would just need the tactics, right? I've even coached people who just need the tactics. They're like, yeah, I actually do. Help me figure out how to answer that, or help me figure out how to do that. And and I. I'll offer that. Like, I'm not holding anything back, but most people don't. And that wasn't me, right? Most people need to go deeper. Most people need to go under the iceberg. I feel like the people who just need the tactics, or maybe they just needed that coach to believe that they could do it, like sometimes that does work, but not most of the time in my experience. And that's why I have a much smaller audience. Like, I probably have a small audience in comparison to a lot of really big career coaches out there, yet I have a much higher success rate and a much higher customer happiness rate because I'm not just in it for the tactics. I'm in it for the, let's go deep, let's figure this out. We'll do it until you figure it out. And I wish that I had a coach like that from the beginning because it really would have been a game changer sooner, but I'm glad I did find my right people and I'm glad that they were able to help me along and I'm very grateful for them and I want to give back. So that is what this project has been. And I've been working on this project for a very long time behind the scenes. And it started with the 8 reasons why you're getting offers or interviews, but no offers. And those 8 reasons were very successful. People landed job offers from pinpointing those 8 reasons, one of those 8 reasons. And they were like, yeah, I'm definitely number 7, or it was definitely number 1 for me. Or like they were able to pinpoint that. And I get people DMing me and emailing me saying, oh my goodness, that was so useful. That training was so valuable. So I decided, okay, I have coached for hundreds of hours, hundreds of people. There are more reasons. And I know that they can also be presented in a different way. So they land with your brain a little bit differently. And so I'm just here for the work. Okay. So if you're here for the work too, join us inside the Six Figure Curriculum and let's get to work on figuring out what your reason is. Okay. Because there is one. And I promise you, it's not because you're flawed. It's not because there's anything wrong with you. It's not because you don't have value to offer. Actually, one of the reasons is because you've become disconnected from your value, because you've been disconnected and you haven't been spending time actually trying to get so clear on your value that you're excited and proud to go talk about it. That's a big one for people, right? But there are 68 other reasons. So I think in the show notes you can get the 8 reasons. That's a sneak peek and it's great. And if you haven't done that one yet, Go ahead and download it. There's a free document you can download with the eight reasons, and then if you leave me a review, you can get the full training for the eight reasons. And then in the program itself, when you sign up, you'll get the whole PDF of the sixty-eight reasons, specific reasons why people don't land the offers they want. Okay, and I promise you, after reading this, you will feel like a whole new person. You will feel like you have just gone through an entire. university degree on interviewing and why people get job offers and why they don't. Okay. So there's much deeper inner work to be done. If you haven't been successful yet, there is nothing wrong with you. You are likely missing some sort of inner deeper work, right? And my goal is that with the book that I've written, it's going to make it easier for you to identify what that inner work is so that the outer work becomes very obvious and clear to you. Okay. Because I know you're a smart person. I know you're capable. I know you've added lots of value and solved things in the past. And I know that I can help you with this specific problem because it is what I do. And then I also wanted to talk to you about the challenge that we're going to be working on. So here's something I like to do things differently. I like to get innovative and I like to create stuff. And that's just how my brain Someone asked me if I was neurodivergent the other day, and I thought about it and I'm like, you know, I haven't been formally diagnosed, but whenever someone writes about ADHD, I really resonate with them. And I'm like, I'm pretty sure I do have some ADHD in me. I've realized over the years of running my business, and I have gone deeper into how I like to run it, what works for me, what works for my clients, and that is that I like to come up with new things. Now, it doesn't mean that the old thing that I did doesn't work because it does. It's been working for lots of people for a long time, right? My program is proven, tested over and over and over again for those who have done the work. And I am very, very proud of the core curriculum of that program, right? So it doesn't actually require anything new, but I just can't help it. My brain just wants to create new things because it's like, this could be even more useful. This could be even more helpful. So I have experienced the power of challenges and how a challenge can help somebody have breakthroughs that they wouldn't otherwise have, and can be a fun way to go through a process as a group collectively and enjoy the process more, feel like that collective energy and have something that we're all working on together. So you can do this challenge individually too, but part of my energy and part of me is building community and creating people coming together. And I've been overjoyed at the people who have entered my community and how helpful they've been to each other. The best thing I think I can do is when I have an idea for a challenge that I think would be really awesome, and also things are changing around us, right? The market changes, things change, and I see things working differently. I'm like, okay, that is a new innovative thing that I believe all my clients need to be doing, right? So What I decided this time is, so the last time I ran an 8-week challenge, the time before that I ran another challenge and job offers have been landed from every challenge. Beliefs have been grown. It's just incredible what happens from a challenge, right? And then I also say the challenge is there for you. So if you don't finish the whole thing, it's not like you're a failure or something. That's not what the point of it is. It's to help you along if you want it. And for many people, they get really into it and they definitely get out what they put in. And so I'm really excited to present this new challenge that I'm doing starting May 12th, and it's called Writing with the VCVC Wand. Okay, it's a brand new challenge. And if you're familiar with me and my work, the VCVC method stands for value creation and value communication, because the way that I like to do things is I like to focus in on your own value. I believe there's always room for value. It's what I've done for myself. It's like I'm focusing on how I can apply what I create, what I do for other people so they can get more of what they want. So that they can be helped more and they can be more successful, right? When I do that, everything else takes care of itself. I really believe that is the true focus that we all need to have, but we end up getting caught up in like our bank accounts and ourselves, and that's normal and human too. It's not the most useful way to generate the results that we want because what we focus on, we get more of. So in this new challenge, I'm focusing on writing with your value creation and expressing your value communication. So The way that we're going to do this is we're going to write every day, and I'm going to provide you with everything that you need to write killer content. Okay? And some of you might not want to post content publicly because you might be afraid your employer might see it or something like that, and that's totally fine. You're going to do this anyway with us because it's what's going to get your value out. It's what's going to express your value. And first is expressing it to yourself, making you really understand, like, Wow, like we went through this VCVC method masterclass a while back, and I coached people directly on it. And I thought, huh, you know what? They were so surprised. Like the collective response from everybody was, huh, I've been underpaid this whole time. What? Like it was this big aha moment that they had where they were just kind of blown away by how much they'd actually contributed. Because we broke it down, right? So my thought process was, oh my goodness, okay, they have so much value once they get it. And the people who really like landed this in their bodies, like offers come later, okay? Offers are guaranteed coming when you land this in your body and you're like, oh my God, that's the value I offered. Holy crap, right? Because we don't see it for ourselves. We can't see it very clearly. So the VCVC method, value creation, value communication. Means essentially you've created value already. You come to me already with value created. I know that. And then my job is to help you communicate that. Okay? And so I need to show you how it's been created. I need to show you the monetary amount of value that you've created. And a lot of the times people don't see it because like they don't see the monetary gains from it, but they're always there, right? Otherwise nobody would've paid you to do the work that you did. Right? So what we're going to do is we're going to write and communicate it and then put it out there into the world so the world can see it. Okay? And then that's going to attract the people, your right people, to you. And we're not going to write for the algorithm. We're not going to write for engagement. We're not going to write for the wrong reasons because really the reasons that we're writing are to attract the people who need our value and want our value and appreciate us. To reach out and to be inspired to recommend us, to hire us, to talk about us with other people, right? And that's what will start happening. People will start being inspired by your post. People will start DMing you. People will start seeing you as an expert, as a resource, as somebody they look up to, as someone they want to talk to, as someone they want to recommend, right? And so if this is sounding a little scary to you, that's okay. It's totally normal. And you don't have to post anything if you don't want to. The exercises are going to be Transformative on their own. Okay? And if you ever want to influence other humans, if you ever want to rally people to your cause, if you ever want to have any kind of influence from your heart over somebody else, this work will help you do that. And this skill will be something that you use throughout your career, not just to get a job. Okay? This is just the very beginning of this skill. So the challenge is writing with the VC/VC wand. A brand new challenge, and we will be starting that on May the twelfth. I can't wait. I'm so excited. Honestly, it's how I've created my business. It's how all these people have found me. It's how I've created what I've created. And like I said, I don't think I have a very big audience in comparison to a lot of people, right? I don't get a ton of engagement on my posts all the time. Sometimes one will hit bigger than others, but the key is not. To write something that everyone wants to respond to, or like everyone wants to just agree with. It's to write for the right people. Okay? And that's what I wanted to try to do.
So
if writing content to attract your career opportunities sounds like something that would be really fun for you and that you really want to do, you're going to want to get in before May the 12th because that's when we're starting. Okay? And with that, you're going to get the core curriculum, you get the 68 Reasons PDF, you get the community LinkedIn group where I'm in there all the time, and you get the weekly coaching calls on Tuesdays where I coach you personally. You get the chance to talk to me personally and raise your hand and share whatever's on your mind. That's what's going on over here at Natalie Fisher headquarters. I can't wait to welcome you in. And if you're already in, yeah, you're already going to do this with us if you want. So I look forward to having you participate in this next level work. And I just wanted to say something else too. There's people who do the same thing over and over and over and over. And like repetition is the mother of skill. And I do believe in that, right? And there are some things that I do over and over and over. Obviously I post on LinkedIn almost every day, sometimes more than once a day. I podcast every single week. I coach my clients every single week. There are things that I do over and over and over. I'm doing the 3-day training. I've done that several times already. I don't know how many times I've done it, but my goal is to do that several times over and get really good at that, help deliver highly on that training. And at the same time, I just have this creative muscle, this innovative need to also offer new things at the same time. And while the new things are new, they are still building on the foundational principles that I teach you inside the program. So it's kind of a combination of both because I don't want to do the same thing over and over all the time. That doesn't feel right to me. And if we're honest, it feels a little bit boring. But I know there are people that do that that are super successful. So I just need to do a little combination of both. So I want to keep everybody who's already seen everything, like, I want to keep them engaged, but I also want new people to get the same foundational principles that they really need to succeed because they have already worked so well for everyone else. So new people joining me, if this is the first time you've listened to this podcast, then you're going to get a little bit of both. Okay? And the great part is, is when you join, you get a lot of this stuff. Like you get the core foundations, they're all there. If anything, they're just better laid out, simpler, clearer, easier to find things than before, because I have learned how to organize the information and make it more user-friendly to find and stuff. So welcome if you have just found me, and I can't wait for what's available for you and what you're going to start to see differently. And For those of you joining into the challenges— into the challenge on May 12th, can't wait to get started with that and the 68 Reasons. That is huge. I'm so excited to drop these 2 things at the same time and see the offers that are going to come from this. All right, that's all I got for you today. I will talk to you next week. Hey, have you left me a review yet? If not, leaving me one now comes with an awesome bonus perk. I'm going to give you you access to my $97 course. It's titled 8 Reasons Why You Get Interviews But No Job Offers. This course is normally $97, but when you leave me a review, as a thank you, I will give you access to it for free. And it's helped many professionals like you land their premium job offers and make more money just by simply going through this 4-day training that I did. I received so much feedback on so many of the results just from this $97 training, and I'd love to gift you that for free. So all you have to do is leave me a review on your favorite podcast platform, preferably iTunes, screenshot the review, email it to me. The details are in the show notes of the episode, and I can't wait to read your reviews and send you access to that course. Thank you so much.

Ep 294: How thoughts create results (why you're not getting the results you want)
