Podcast interview (Natalie Jill with Wade Lightheart) about the importance of enzymes for digestion, especially in midlife. Wade explains enzyme types (plant/animal/cultured/systemic), their roles (carb, fat, plant fiber, protein breakdown), and how modern cooking and food processing deplete natural food enzymes. He describes an HCl (hydrochloric acid) baking-soda burp test, the role of proteolytic probiotics (e.g., L. plantarum strains), and practical protocols: '3-2-1' (three enzymes, two P3M probiotics, one HCl per meal) and a 90-day reboot (five enzymes per meal + twice-daily enzymes on empty stomach + P3M). He warns against proteolytic enzymes when ulcers/gastritis are present and discusses differences of Bioptimizers' products (cultured enzymes, in-house microbiology lab, potency testing).

Mix 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in ~4 ounces water on an empty stomach; if you burp within 5 minutes you have sufficient HCl.

Three enzyme capsules, two P3M probiotic capsules, and one HCl capsule with each meal.

Take five enzyme capsules with each meal and also twice daily (on empty stomach) for 90 days; take P3M high-dose (e.g., 4 in morning and 4 in evening) and use HCl if baking-soda test indicates low acid.

Gastritis or a stomach/intestinal ulcer (do not take proteolytic enzymes).
