Jefferson Fisher took about twelve Instagram videos to get a million-view reel. His early attempts were awkward and cringey, but he kept them to track his progress. MKBHD's early YouTube videos show the same pattern: creators get better through repetition, not talent.
How many videos did it take that you posted on Instagram before you had the first one hit a million views?
It probably took maybe 12 videos. The video specifically on how to argue like, or what to do in communication. My first few videos were just me doing dumb stuff. I was just figuring out how to make a reel. I didn't know. So my first videos are super cringey. They're terrible. Are they still up? Oh yeah. I left them for myself. I mean, just to remind myself like where, where I came from. And I think that's so good as a creator. Like, MKBHD, the YouTuber, has done a great example of this.
Like, you can go back to him and you can see him at like 14 years old on YouTube. Oh yeah. And they're terrible videos, but you can see him steadily get better.
I can barely look at these old videos. I mean, they are super cringy, uh, to me. But without them, I, I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing now. Yeah.
