#205 Freight Is Down, Tariffs Shifted, TikTok Shop Is Exploding. Here’s What Matters | Friday Week in Review
21 Nov 2025 · 14 min
In this episode of the High Voltage Business Builders Friday Week in Review, host Neil Twa delivers a rapid‑fire briefing on the most consequential e‑commerce developments for sellers heading into 2026. He starts with a calm in ocean freight, noting that China‑to‑US West Coast rates sit near $1,800 and East Coast rates around $2,700, and highlights a newly‑reduced fentanyl‑related tariff on Chinese goods from 20% to 10% with a matching Chinese cut. He warns sellers to stock up while the market is quiet. He then outlines a broader manufacturing slowdown in Asia—eight consecutive months of contracting orders—forecasting longer lead times, higher MOQs, and the impact of the Chinese New Year on Q1 2026 inventory. The bulk of the episode covers platform‑specific updates: Amazon’s 12‑day Black Friday window, the emergence of an AI‑driven auto‑purchase bot (Rufus), China’s crackdown on cross‑border tax dodgers, the monetization of basic seller tools, the CEO’s prediction that brick‑and‑mortar is dying, Amazon’s aggressive price hikes, the beta launch of Unified Campaign Manager/Unboxed and the rollout of sponsored product videos. Neil shifts to TikTok Shop, describing its explosive growth in the U.S. and urging sellers to adopt a 90‑day omnichannel strategy. He announces Walmart’s new $75k onboarding service that lets Amazon inventory ship directly to Walmart customers without warehousing. He notes Google’s AI‑influenced shopping keyword rankings. Finally, he frames AI as both a margin‑protecting and margin‑eroding force, stressing that speed, automated testing, and AI‑guided creative work are the new competitive moats. He promotes a $5 product‑research tool (gpt.caimandata.com) and offers direct consulting via phone or email, positioning his team as a pathway to building a 7‑figure e‑commerce business in 2026.

Is AI moving faster than your ad budget? Because it feels like the platforms, the supply chain, and the shoppers are all changing on the same Tuesday afternoon, and you're not imagining it.
Is it Q4?
Yep, the chaos is real and the opportunities are even bigger. Hey guys, welcome to the High Voltage Business Builders Friday Week in Review. If you're a returning listener, buckle up. Every Friday we're going to break down what actually matters across Amazon, TikTok, Shopify, Walmart, Google, and the entire e-commerce ecosystem. These are quick hits, real strategy, and none of the fluff. So before we jump in though, if you've missed last week's episode 203 entitled TikTok, Shopify, and Amazon Are Merging: Here's How to Stay Ahead in 2026, go and listen to that after this one. In that episode, we talked about how the platforms are blending together, how AI is influencing buyer behavior, and what you need to do before the market shifts in 2026. All right, let's get into this week's update. This week was quiet on the shipping front. Nothing really dramatic happened, nothing alarming. But here is what does matter. Ocean freights continue to slide again. So China to the US West Coast is hovering around $1,800. China to the United States East Coast is around $2,700. Carriers are expected in November to demand spike. It did not. So the market is correcting downward. And the tariff changes we talked about last week are now official. And that's a fentanyl-related tariff on Chinese goods dropped down from 20% to 10%. China matched it. Don't even get me started on why we have to talk about fentanyl in China. That means a 10-point duty savings on every formal entry shipping sailing after November 4th, which is good. De minimis is still suspended. Okay. Auto parts, steel, and aluminum remain unchanged. And no port fees. Surprise. No charges last week. So in other words, there's a rare moment of calm in the shipping world. Take advantage of it if you're a seller. Get those products in stock. This is your opportunity. Okay. Asia's marketing and major manufacturing hubs report 8 straight months of contracting orders. That is not small. That is what we call a trend. This contradiction is being driven by weakened global demand, United States import duties. And here's what it means for Q1 of 2026 for you sellers paying attention. You're going to face longer lead times, smaller production windows, and higher minimum order quantities. Sorry, but that's what's going to go down. Factories are shrinking capacity, demand returns, and bottlenecks will hit a little bit faster. If you want inventory securely for next year, you need to lock in your production windows now. Quiet upstream issues can turn into loud downstream disasters. Also keep in mind, January is when China usually goes on a break. All right. That's their Chinese New Year. So you're going to be aware of that. Guys, with that, we need to talk about platform updates that'll matter for those of you selling on the different platforms. Some of these are gonna make you laugh. Some will make you question humanity. Some are just Amazon being Amazon. So first update, Black Friday is now a 12-day holiday. The 12 days of holidays.
Interesting.
Amazon stretched it out like a Netflix series that should have ended these 3 episodes earlier. And if you're not planning extended wave promotions, you're gonna be behind. Sellers crossed $225 trillion in sales. Amazon is really proud about that. Sellers are proud. Accountants everywhere are sweating bullets. That's crazy, right? Rufus can now shop while customers sleep. Here's even some interesting AI scariness. Amazon's AI bot auto-purchases products when prices drop. Think about that for a second. You are officially selling to robots. We've talked about this, guys. It's literally happening. If your pricing bounces, Rufus will take your listing on a roller coaster ride. So be aware with that. Be very smart about your pricing, in other words. And what we always recommend is you take a look at your pricing controls. To ensure you're not only matching market, but you're also leading in the brand. Number four: China is finally cracking down on cross-border tax dodgers. So this is incredible, right? For years, Chinese sellers have held a huge price disadvantage in the market. Chinese sellers actually took the advantage. Excuse me. By dodging taxes and compliance, it's been a disadvantage for American sellers. And Bloomberg says China is shutting this down hard, which is super cool. This is a market reset. Which you guys gotta pay very close attention to. The US-based sellers are finally going to not have that advantage anymore. It's a disadvantage for Chinese sellers. As you know, in 2019 and up to 2025, Chinese sellers have taken over at least 60% of third party. That is gonna change in 2026. You need to hear me when I say this. If you're new or an aspiring entrepreneur, pay very close attention. If you're an existing seller, pay even more close attention. And if you've ever thought about selling on Amazon, this is the window to jump in. There's not another window. It's not going to be like this. This is a big one, guys. So if you want any support in that, if you're wanting to build or aspire to your brand, if you want to work alongside of my team, you can reach out to 417-413-4209 with keyword 205, which references this episode. You'll talk with me directly. Let's find out if it's your time to get into the market and start building a 7-figure business in 2026. All right. Update 5, Amazon is monetizing tools. Market Pulse reports basic seller tools are becoming paid upgrades. What that translates into, Amazon found another subscription to charge you. Shocker. So be aware of that. Number 6, Amazon CEO predicts the end of brick-and-mortar retail. Eh, go a little bit farther out than that. He's said physical retail is basically over. Sure. I predict the end of diets. We'll see which one hits first. And number 7, Amazon is raising prices faster than competitors. Pricing competition is dead. So you need an offer, not a low price. We talk about that a lot on here. You don't need a low price. Do not get caught in the race to the bottom pricing of vanity metrics, which is sell more product with less profit. Don't do that. Number 8, Unboxed recap. Unified Campaign Manager is launched. Creative ad agency inside of the, what's called the creative agents, has now launched. It's basically Amazon telling you it's time to move faster and use AI because your competitors are doing it and they're launching more creatives faster. You guys are going to want to check that out. It's called Unboxed. It's within the campaign manager. It's called Unified Campaign Manager. You're going to want to check that out. I believe it's in beta right now. I'm not sure all systems have access to it just yet, but be aware it is coming very fast. Amazon is pushing it very hard. And number 9, sponsored product videos officially dropped.
All right.
You can upload 2 to 5 clips, no audio. Products must fill half of the frame at least. You get no text, emojis, or branding unless it's physically on the product. And early adopters are going to win this round. Sponsored products video officially launched. Got to check that out. So let's switch gears. Let's go into TikTok. TikTok Shop is exploding and is now one of the fastest growing brands in the United States. If you're not testing content there, your competitors are doing dances with your customers. So be aware though, not all TikTok products fit the shop. If you got any questions about that, you can hit me up as well. You need to understand that there's a method. There's a 90-day process. TikTok Shop is great. It's huge. You should be looking at it from an omnichannel perspective. Just be aware. It's a whole different channel. It's a whole different psychology of buyer. So you want to pay attention to the way you do that and when you actually do it, just make sure you understand it is growing extremely fast. Let's see. Chinese consumers shifted heavily towards essentials and lower-priced items. There is a global signal shoppers everywhere are going to be value-driven. So be aware of that. In the Walmart world, in case you weren't aware, the CEO Doug McMillon is stepping down. Meanwhile, Walmart HQ reached out to us at Voltage this week to help our brands onto the Walmart marketplace. This is a $75,000 onboarding service for our brands and clients that starts in January 2026. It's super awesome because literally they're now going to support multichannel shipping. So our Amazon inventory will be able to ship directly to Walmart customers. You don't need to send any inventory into their warehouses to launch. This is speed. This is margin. This is leverage. If you want to know more about how we're working with Walmart directly to allow our clients and brands to on-ramp in January 2026, or you're considering the sales of it, or you're an Amazon seller who's not on Walmart and is looking for a way to get there. In a very fast way with a lot of benefits working directly with Walmart, you might want to contact Voltage, voltage dm.com. Search say Google's AI overviews are influencing shopping keyword rankings. You can now optimize for humans and the machine decides what humans see. Yeah, that's kind of cool and kind of scary at the same time. So it's going to have to do a lot with your creatives. We'll continue to talk about that as we go through updates in the coming weeks, because much of the systems of marketing are being driven by AI now. All right. So guys, remember, there's pressure everywhere. There's opportunity everywhere. Factories are tightening, fees are rising, consumers are shifting, platforms are automating, AI influencing discovery at every step. So the operators who are going to win are the ones that adapt faster than anybody else. Speed is the moat. Speed is the advantage. Okay. And that brings us to the collision of what is happening right now. The collision literally between AI and your margins. Okay. This is part of what we talked about a minute ago. AI is not cute anymore. It's not for memes. It's not for fun experiments. It's either protecting your business or exposing every weak spot you have been ignoring that your competitors are going to take advantage of. AI is your creative team without the attitude. It builds products, images, lifestyle graphics, does the research, even the videos before your designer can finish their coffee. Faster testing equals faster wins. AI fixes what customers dislike before they return your product. So returns, reviews, customer messages, they can all be analyzed instantly now, making better clarity, offering fewer returns, and giving you the opportunity for higher margins, which you know means higher profits. So we want to pay close attention to that. So AI will generate what it's going to generate. You're going to judge that's the winning partnership. Just make sure you know how to influence it or direct it. AI allows you to fix conversion issues before your competitors even notice them. So this is a competitive advantage. AI can protect your margins with tariff rises, fees increases, shipping fluctuations, return spikes. Even ads can automate themselves. There's so much going on. So again, speed wins, clarity of execution wins. Operators who use AI intentionally at their, you know, more of their macro tactical level are going to be the ones that ultimately win at the strategy level. So make sure you're using it to some degree, but paying attention to what it's doing in your business and how you can always drive and measure results. So guys, there's a lot to unpack in everything I just said. Go out and research some of those additional articles and information you heard me say just a minute ago, which you can obviously do on the great wide web or in AI systems of your choice. It's going to wrap up our review, guys. If your brain feels good, it feels full, means you're paying attention. Guys, this is e-commerce in 2025. I can almost taste what's going to happen in 2026. It's right around the corner. It's coming up extremely fast. As mentioned, check out last week's episode. TikTok, Shopify, Amazon, they're blending together. How you're going to want to take on this omnichannel strategy in 2026. We've talked a lot about it over the last few years, but with competitors' advantages, now the marketplace is approaching us to allow us to use their internal systems, growth teams, and channel partners. It's a huge impact for anybody that works with my team to get out into these marketplaces and take advantage of that even faster. If you're new, if this is the first episode, welcome aboard. Go check out everything else that's going on. If You're wondering, can I do this? I'm thinking about it. I wonder if e-commerce is for me.
