Nick Hutchinson discusses Caroline Stokes' ebook Aftershock to 2030, arguing that AI is already reshaping business and survival means adapting faster than the chaos around you. Printing one book costs a fraction of a tree, and typical print runs of 3,000 leave many copies unread, which is why Stokes released it as an ebook instead.

Artificial intelligence is here, and the only way to survive as a business owner is to evolve faster than the chaos around you. It's one of my favorite lessons from this book, Aftershock to 2030 by Caroline Stokes. It's also the first ebook I've read in a long time because she decided not to print physical books. Did you know that one tree equals 25 physical books, and the average author does a print run of about 3,000? 40% of those books go unread, so there's all of these trees that get cut down unnecessarily to produce books that we as readers buy with the intention of reading but never actually consume. So I thought that was a really interesting decision. Now, you won't need a PhD in organizational psychology, climate control, or AI to read this book, but you will need curiosity and a willingness to learn, which is what this Book Thinkers community is all about. I'm spending time thinking about the future and how I'm going to be resilient as everything continues to to change. I know it's intimidating, especially if you're a young professional thinking about how am I going to make it over the next 20, 30, 40, 50 years of my career. But it's by reading books like this and thinking about these subjects and talking about them with your friends and on social media that prepares you for the inevitable changes that are coming. The ebook is available now, and there's an audio version of the book launching on November 11th. That way you don't have to cut down any trees to consume this very important information.
