Do you use book summary apps? #shorts

Nick Hutchison argues book-summary apps can't replace reading full books. He cites Joshua Waitzkin's "form to leave form" framework: real mastery requires so much immersion that knowledge becomes subconscious. You need the whole book, the case studies, everything, to let your mind act automatically.

Here's why I think we should throw book summary apps out the window and replace them with actual books. My thought process comes from this book, The Art of Learning by author Joshua Waitzkin. If you want his credibility, it comes from this. He's an 8-time national chess champion. He's the subject of the book Finding Bobby Fischer, and he's also a martial arts champion. Talk about somebody who knows how to learn effectively, right? Within this book, he teaches a framework of learning called form to leave form or numbers to leave numbers. Where you study a subject so intensely that it becomes ingrained in your subconscious. And you can't get that ingrained in your subconscious type of learning from a book summary app. You have to actually read the entire book, all the surrounding case studies. Although that information might feel like fluff sometimes, that's what helps us actually learn the information. That's what helps our subconscious act on our behalf. You can't sit there and a martial arts match and think about every single move you're gonna make, right? No, you need to have studied the art so much that your body can act on your behalf for you. And you need to study chess so much that your subconscious can connect the dots in a way that your conscious mind simply can't comprehend. Book summary apps do not replace books. You have to read the full thing. In fact, you've got to read multiple books on one subject before you've truly learned something.
