Nick Hutchinson and author Philip Gabbard discuss Bronnie Ware's finding that people's biggest deathbed regret is living by others' expectations. Gabbard's work challenges the "have-tos" of society, inviting people to question norms rather than follow a prescribed path.
It also reminds me of the Top 5 Regrets of the Dying by Bronnie Ware. And she says that the top regret is that we as humans tend to live our lives within other people's expectations or to other people's expectations and not our own. And so if a president wants to roll around on the floor with his grandkids and have fun, should be able to do that because that's what makes you feel alive and full of joy. Who cares what anybody else thinks, a royal dignitary or not, right?
That's right. You know, this day was a real expression of that. It tackled conformity and the have-tos. And why do we need to behave the ways we need to behave? And I wrote it in a sense of obviously you've read my work. I write differently. I understand that. But it's part of the expression, the literature that I tried to create to be an honest expression for once, an honest expression. I'm not here to tell you how to live your life, but I can ask you to think about it. Yeah. The best— And show you ideas.
Ask questions, right?
Yeah. I don't have it figured out. And that's what makes me the everyman. None of us do.
