In this solo YouTube video, Nick Hutchison gives an enthusiastic review of Chris Jarvis’s book Giraffe Money. He explains the giraffe metaphor – a giraffe’s long neck lets it see farther and stand above the herd, just as wealthy people differentiate themselves and pursue unique opportunities. Hutchison outlines the book’s promise of “seven paths to elevated wealth,” noting that most new millionaires in the U.S. (about 70% in 2017) inherited their wealth, leaving entrepreneurship as the primary alternative. He stresses the need for a creative, bullet‑proof blueprint when building a large financial empire and describes the diverse advisory team required (estate planning, insurance, investment managers, accountants, business advisors). Hutchison also highlights Jarvis’s background in applied mathematics and his strong mental‑model skills, and teases an upcoming in‑person interview/podcast with Jarvis. He closes by urging viewers to read the book, leave comments, and stay tuned for the interview.

Are you a giraffe? Kind of a strange question, right? Not for this man right here, Chris Jarvis. Chris is the author of Giraffe Money, and this is a book that I just finished up. I actually met up with Chris for an in-person interview, and it's coming out very soon. But today I'd like to tell you a little bit about why I really enjoyed Giraffe Money. The giraffe is used as a metaphor here because when Chris was down in southern Africa, He went on this safari and he saw some giraffes and he thought, wow, these are remarkable. They're the only animal on the entire planet which have evolved to become more vulnerable. Their necks have elongated, but also that allows them to see things a little bit differently. So Chris started to learn a little bit more about giraffes and found out that a giraffe is very similar to a wealthy person. They stand head and shoulders above the crowd and they do things a little bit differently than a herd animal like a zebra. A giraffe has opportunities that are very different. Can achieve giraffe status by being very different and seeking different kinds of opportunities, like elongating your neck. It's a little bit vulnerable when you get outside of the comfort zone. And so in this book, you are going to learn 7 paths to elevated wealth. These are things that the rich people are paying attention to that maybe you're not. And so if you'd like to elevate your own wealth and take advantage of some of the same things that the wealthy, the 1 percenters, are taking advantage of, this is a great place to start. Chris has worked with a ton of millionaires and billionaires, and he's helped them manage their wealth. He uses this great metaphor. He says, when you're looking at a construction blueprint, if it's a very small project, you don't need to get that creative. Write out the blueprint. But the bigger the blueprint, the faster your project, the bigger your imagination. Well, you're going to have to do a lot more planning. You're going to have to get a lot more creative. And so if you're planning on being a giraffe, Well, you better start learning about some of the concepts in this book. You cannot become wealthy. You cannot build this massive empire without a very creative bulletproof blueprint. And so this book can help introduce you to some concepts that maybe you really haven't thought about. I know one that shocked me during our conversation and while reading this book is that out of the 700,000 roughly people that became millionaires in the US in 2017, about 70% of it came from inheritance. Okay, whatever. I'm not getting rich from inheritance. And so what's the other option? It's entrepreneurship. And as you gain more money, you need a very diverse team of people to help you out. It's not just one money manager. There's a ton of different ways that you can get attacked as a wealthy person. You need to cover your estate planning. You need to cover your insurances. You need to cover your investment portfolio. You need a separate person that's an accountant. You might need some business advisors. And so just like a blueprint for this crazy empire that you want to build, you're going to need plumbers and different kinds of construction people. You're going to need to get all these things approved by the state. It's the same kind of level of chaos. But anyway, you'll get a breath of fresh air when you read this book right here, Giraffe Money. It was an excellent book. Make sure you tune into our podcast. Chris is an incredible guy. He has this background in math, applied mathematics, so we can look at a problem and apply all this different thought to it. His mental model ability is pretty crazy. And so you'll find out the conversation was pretty cool. It was also my very first in-person interview for the podcast. So stay tuned for that as well. And with that, take care.
