Pain has a huge mental component. Attention, stress, memory, and tension can amplify or reduce what you feel, even though the pain itself is physically real. How much your mind shapes healing and pain tolerance depends on how it interprets what your body is telling it.
How much of the healing power is inside our minds versus outside of us?
To your question, where is the pain coming from? I can tell you that somewhere in your body, and suddenly you watch a great movie, that pain is not bothering you at that moment. There is a component of the mind that is huge in anything that is pain, which is not to say that there's not a reality to the pain, but yes, there is definitely a huge mental component to the pain. And, and a component of stress and a component of memory in the area. The area can have a memory that creates a local tension that maintains the pains in All of that is mind. Stress in an area is still mind. So in that way, there are many layers of mind to the process of pain. Absolutely no question.
