A memory dividend is the lasting pleasure you get from recalling an experience long after it happens. A first kiss, a home run, travel, or helping others generates joy twice: once when it occurs, and again every time you remember or talk about it. Younger people who travel gain extra value because they can relive those memories for decades.
Then you talk about memory dividends on top of that and why traveling when you're younger makes more sense. So can you explain what a memory dividend is?
When you have an experience, whether it's your first kiss, hit a home run, or travel, right, or even go in philanthropy, you get the joy of having that experience. But you also get joy and what I call memory dividend, you get experience from recalling it or discussing it, like you discussing your trip right now.
It's an experience in itself.
So not only do you get joy doing the event, you get to withdraw on your memories, you get a little bit of joy every time you recall it, You discuss it, etc. And those, those dividends are the stuff of life, right? When you sit around and you sit around with friends and you're telling stories, right? That's what makes you interesting. And that's what gives you pleasure. And often those, the summation of years and years and years of recalling those memories, well, that pleasure will often be higher if we were going to give a numerical, like let's say we give a 55 to your trip, but your memory recall and the memory dividend over the years may add up to 1,000 or 500, you know?
