Nick Hutchison pulls three lessons from Robert D. Murphy's Breaking Boundaries: leadership is about creating opportunities, not titles; promotions come from visible impact, not hours worked; and micromanagement kills team performance. He admits struggling with delegation himself.
Chapters
Here are my 3 favorite lessons from this book, Breaking Boundaries, by author Robert D. Murphy. And the 3rd one is something I really struggle with. Number 1, and I think this line is genius, leadership isn't just about holding a title. It's about creating opportunities for yourself and others. What an interesting take on leadership. It's your responsibility to help other people flourish and live up to their potential by creating opportunities for them. Number 2, the author says promotion comes from visible impact, not just hours. Hours clocked in. You have to demonstrate the impact that you're having in the business as an employee or a leader because perception is reality. And last but not least, don't micromanage. That's an important piece of delegation. I've had a tough time delegating for years and years and years because I love being involved in the process. But in order to go from a team lead to a manager, you need to step back and allow your team to do what they do best, which is the work you've delegated to them. If you're looking to improve your potential as a leader, I highly recommend checking out this book. Comment down below and share your favorite leadership book.
