Reawaken Your Intuitive Abilities with Lenka Schulze Ph.D

Lenka Schulze, Ph.D., argues intuition is a birthright we suppress through Western education and rational culture. She recommends parents let children interact with animals and plants, and offers adults breathwork and sleep-thought programming to reawaken it. Intuition feels light and transparent when true, heavy and slimy when false.

The reason why I felt that is important to bring intuition forward is to discern and tap back into the truth versus lies. And it's really hard to right now figure it out. That is probably the one conversation I have with everyone. They don't know who to trust, where to trust, um, what's right, what's wrong, what's truth, what's not. So how do we know all that? And that's why I feel that it would be one of the most beneficial, um, aspect of this book is to realize that the truth is really within you and know that lie, for example, it's really easy to spot, right? Because it's heavy. It's kind of slimy. It has a lot of stories, agendas. Truth is so simple. It's transparent. you could see right through it. It doesn't sometimes feel right. I mean, if it feels like, ooh, I don't like that, well, maybe it's hitting something. So don't necessarily say, oh, I don't like it and run away. Sit with it because if it's true, it's gonna hit you.
Lenka, welcome to the Book Thinkers Life-Changing Books Podcast. I'm excited to chat with you all about intuition today, but first, What the heck is intuition? How do you define it?
Intuition is intuition is a a force or energy that is fueled by mystical consciousness.
Yeah, I think it one of the ways that I think about it is it's the opposite of conscious reasoning in a lot of ways, isn't it?
Yes, intuition is like you know the word I like to just. If I try to understand something, I take the word and I dissect it. So the intuit means from within. So yes, it's information that comes from a source not necessarily logical, and that's what the intuition comes somewhere from deep within. That when people say, "Oh, I know this," and I don't know how I know it, that comes from that intuitive sense. So intuition is living in the Realm, like subtle realms. So it's not like you can go and touch it per se, like knowledge, like knowledge you can get from book, right? From somebody else's seminar. But intuition comes from this, this field of vast, vast information, the universal mind that everyone has access to, but it doesn't have a direct link or 1-800 number. You know, it's kind of like free for everyone to tap into.
Yeah, there are so many different forms of intelligence. And I've been talking about your book a lot with my friends and family over the last couple of weeks ever since I read it. And one of the ways that I've found myself describing intuition is sort of like a lost form of intelligence. I think that in today's world, especially in the West, We really value intellectual reasoning, logic, and we undermine and devalue other forms of intelligence like intuition. And so, it's almost as if you were to build a spectrum of like logical reasoning and intuition, they're two ends of two polar opposites almost. But it's like we used to value intuition more. Why do you think that in today's world, we're so logical and we ignore our intuition?
Oh, well, we can open up the can of worms and go and dive deep, but the reasoning why it's not important, it— I think it's more about not looking back but looking forward. Like, if you know, if somebody says, I can teach you or guide you or reawaken something within you that will make your life better, um, healthier, more abundant, joyous, Wouldn't you wanna be like, yes? I am all about finding the reasons, but that's not benefiting anyone, finding necessarily the reasons why we lost it. I think it's, we never lost it. We didn't claim it. We are not claiming it. It's a birthright. You have a brand new baby. That baby is nothing more than full of intuition. If he would have words, he's so much more wiser than you and me together. But he doesn't have that ability to speak, but he senses, he knows things beyond our human intelligence understanding. So it's like if we see that baby and know that that baby has it right now, how can we harness that so they don't quote unquote lose it? How can we make sure that we make it stronger? Like it's a muscle, right? So how can we make it stronger that that it becomes embedded in them. However, intuition is something I believe we lost because, like you said, we valued the intelligent aspect of our existence. The value went on the outside of ourselves versus from the inside. But when we start with— when we start valuing something from within, it grows our self-worth. Because you have something now, like your baby have a worth. Of information. I wish we can just dig in, right? But if we can grow it with then understanding of a language and expression, we have now this little genius that could finally come to all the senses because I believe intuition is our first sense, not the sixth. So if we can take the first sense and then build on the, the words, um, the, um, all the other senses. the kinesthetic and all the others, then we really are creating a genius. And we have that genius within us, all of us. So I don't know, it's a, it's a long answer, but I kind of went through different doors to answer it.
No, I love the answer. And there are a number of things I want to follow up on and unpack. I'm happy that you brought up that I just had a baby. I wanted to ask the question that you started to answer, which is, How do I make sure that that light stays lit? How do I make sure that the fire isn't dimmed? And I've talked about this with other authors in different disciplines. An example might be creativity. Children are so creative and shameless, and they just follow their own creative intuition in a lot of ways. And as they age and society adds all of these constraints and you start to get reprimanded for thinking outside of the box, that flame starts to dim a little bit. And as a result, a lot of adults are less creative as adults than they were as children. So how do we— how would you recommend that I stay conscious and aware of my child's inner genius and their intuition, and I fan that flame and I feed it instead of dim it? Does that question make sense?
100%. And I love the subject. So Where can I start? The first thing is to bring trust. So when the baby makes a noise, it makes a noise for a reason. I don't believe in letting a child cry. I just— that's not me. Because you make noise when you're not happy or you are happy and being very attuned to it. So is it a cry for food, attention, love, so on and so forth? And once they get a little bit more conscious, becoming conscious with them and really pay attention because I noticed when I had my children and they were little and they didn't have the words yet, I paid attention to their body language. So if let's say the UPS driver knocked on the door, watch your baby. What does it do? Like, is it smiling, looking with a sparkle, or it just retreats? Is it the energy and nature versus the shopping mall? Like, that is how you Reinforce what they feeling is correct, if that makes sense for them. And also never ever, never ever, never ever doubt them. So which means if they don't like your cousin, trust it because they have different relationship with them than you do, and you have to build the trust in them. You don't if they say or or they tell you by screaming you they don't want to go to that restaurant. And I had, trust me, I, I have been in these moments. I trust it because they are so much more attuned to that vibrational frequency of those places than I am, because I'm a little bit more denser. And when you trust in them, um, develop that language, for example. Um, and they, you know, they may not answer you, but they can understand you. So you say, if you don't like this, squeeze my hand. If you do want to go, then whatever, squeeze twice or whatever, however the language is. So this is language between you and them. And it's beneficial because they need you like a mama bear, papa bear kind of thing to make them stronger. That muscle of the trust has to be developed 100% because we are taught as a society to trust everything around them. You know, I mean, we let— we allow children to sit on the laps of Santa Claus and we don't even know who's underneath those outfits. And you see these children screaming in the park, you know, in the in the line, and the moms and dad want the picture for whatever reason versus that child is not happy. They don't like that person sitting in that outfit. Trust it, and there will be situations where it will be not beneficial to you and to your agenda. But the price is so great that you paid because if they know when to get out of situation, when to make the business deal, and is based on that. If they would live in an environment they have to survive, you wouldn't have to teach them that because they will have to survive on their own trust. They wouldn't have the mom and dad to potentially do that because they are kind of on their own surviving. So they develop that intuition on their own. But in America, lots of our families living in cotton balls. So we lose that sense. that I call it the God's armor. We kind of like letting it down because we're thinking we know better than the children. You know, that playdate is beneficial, or that group that stimulates that music in their brain is better. No, listen to them, because if they don't like the teacher, they will not get anything out of that class.
Yeah, that's amazing. This is already one of my favorite conversations. My wife and I, we listened to a book called The Montessori Baby, uh, before our child was born. And it talked a lot about slowing things down and paying attention, just like you're talking about.
Mm-hmm.
And so we've been really conscious of that for the last 3 weeks since he was born. And we're, we're— I think your comments so far have done nothing but validate a lot of the feedback we've gotten from our son already. So, one comment that we keep getting from friends and family is, wow, he's not fussy. He's really happy. He's not crying. He hasn't cried when anybody's picked him up yet, which makes me feel really comfortable about my network. And he's really happy with our dog, which we were worried about, but they're like best friends already. And it just, it does nothing but validate that his intuition is in alignment with the environment that we've created so far, which is, uh, is amazing. And just like you said too, we haven't found a situation yet where he cries and we can't help him solve that problem. So it's just that he's hungry, he needs to be picked up, or he needs his diaper changed. Like, there is nothing else yet, which is really nice.
No, I would also encourage the stimulation of something living, which, um, I wish that I had that wisdom back then. Because when we stimulate the senses and have coexistence and co-creation within us, we expand. So what I mean by that, you have a dog. So when your child energetically or physically entertains with that vibrational energy of the dog, it learns. It learns. So same thing. With all living organisms. If it's a fish, if it's flowers, if it's bees, if it's rocks. I let my children literally sit and chew on rocks because the rocks have a vibrational frequency. And yes, there will be people like, well, they can choke. Well, again, you can underestimate the intuitive senses of children. Okay. They've been around for millions of years. And so if we think that they're really that dumb, okay. I get it. But that's not— I don't view children like that. I view— of course, I'm not going to give them little pebbles. But there was a— you know what I mean? It's like, let them have the pine cone and chew on it or whatever. Like, play it, sense it. They learn from that. They have that organic feedback versus toys with deadness. There's no stimulation. Maybe for 5 minutes, but then it's it because the child looks at it like, There's nothing coming back from that. I'd rather go to the dog. Does that make sense? It's that we need to start realizing that the ferrets, the, I don't know, guinea pigs, the nature, just even the butterflies, make them watch it, chase them. Take the frogs. I mean, I remember as a mom, I'm not a fan at that time of spiders and things, but I never— brought that to their awareness. I said, oh, isn't that beautiful spider? Why don't you touch it? And so they don't have that preconception what I was holding about it. You know, they would catch frogs and kiss it. What I mean, whatever, because they learn from that versus we go, oh, don't touch that. Oh, that's poisonous. So let them decide because they're very intuitive. They know, they really truly do.
Yeah, that's wonderful advice. And I can't wait for my son to grow and participate in things with me with a little bit more of his own free will. But like every morning when I come back from the gym, I go to the backyard with the dog and I take my shoes and my socks off and we do a little bit of grounding in the sunlight and, and, you know, let my feet be on the, on the earth without any protection. And like, I can't wait for the baby to be involved in those things and go to the beach and get in the ocean and feel what that's like. And so, Yeah, I'm loving your advice so far. Were there any other things that you wish you knew other than the living organism piece when you had your children?
Don't push them to school. I homeschooled my children partially, well, actually majority of their education. I wish I did it the whole time. Once they got old enough, they chose to go to school themselves. Like, that was a time when like, Mom, We ready? And, but they really don't benefit from that. They benefit from you and your family and the love that you have because nothing— there's just, the schools are just too hard on their little sensitivity. I was very blessed because when we lived in Colorado, we had Montessori school on top of the hill and our teacher was a, one of the starters of Montessori system in the United States. And she was already in her 70s and she would start, and it doesn't matter if these children were 2 years old, as long as they can sit, they would meditate for 1 minute every morning with the candle. And I'm like, it's no way they can sit. But they actually did. And they looked forward to it. When there was a break, she would have roosters and chickens and climb the trees and she would let them just do whatever. And it was like the best, best school that I could have placed them in at that time. But I never found anything like this again.
Yeah, I'm, as I mentioned, I just read the Montessori Baby book. And I, I've been learning about homeschooling for the last year or so, because just like you're highlighting, there are a lot of— I went to public school. And I had a great experience, and I still don't think it was about— I still think there are better options, right? I was like the best outcome of what public school could produce, but I still don't think it's the right choice. So that shows you something. And yeah, we'll continue to learn about pub— you know, about the different options. And thankfully, there is a Montessori school about 20 minutes from where I live, and I haven't been to it yet, but I do want to go check it out. I think that's really great advice. And I've just learned in my own life, I've learned thousands of times more from my own human experience, paying attention to it, being aware, reflecting and digesting, journaling and meditating, and also in my own self-education, reading and implementing books and learning from people like you than I ever did in school. So I'm like you, there's definitely better options.
Yes, I think you just nailed exactly that perfect balance when you have these experiences that validate your intuition. And then you have the knowledge from others that you're hoping to make a resonation with the experiences and the intuition. So that is like the wholeness of all. And you cannot project your great experiences you had in your public school because that's not the same public school today.
Yeah, I think so too. So Can I just say one more thing? Oh yeah, of course. Of course.
Before we go into the education, well, look at it that public school systems have been not— they're not that old. And even the founding fathers of America have been homeschooled and had barely any education. And it's really been based on the industrial age. We are out of that. So if we understand just that logic and our children are not part of the industrial age, that we don't have to go and check in and check out in the factory anymore, We don't have to be little robots. So that makes sense that it doesn't fit for them, that model anymore.
Yeah. And I also read recently that almost all of the most successful entrepreneurs, like the famous ones in the United States today, everybody from Zuckerberg to Gates to Musk, none of them put their children in any type of traditional education. They all do a modified version of Montessori or homeschooling or something like that.
Yep.
Yep. Yeah. So if the people on this planet with the most access to resources, and the highest level view of how the world actually works, don't send their kids through the traditional education system, that's a sign. It is. So let me ask you, let's go back in time a little bit. When did you first get interested in the subject of intuition? How were you exposed to this form of intelligence?
Uh, I, I believe again, if we go back to the genesis back in the baby, right, we all have that. Um, I, looking back on that, I wasn't aware of it for a very long time. It just was part of me. I had this feeling that everybody knows what I know, feel what I feel, and there was no questioning because you just don't understand that other people are different, especially when you're a child. You know, that whole prejudice and it doesn't exist in children's mind. And looking back on that, I would say that intuition was part of very deep program of myself. And also the reason for that is I was growing up in a communist regime. And because we were raised in communist regime, we were not allowed to have religion. And because you don't have religion, you don't necessarily have set rules of BS belief system. So you're kind of like an empty vessel. And because we are just— we are empty vessels, something comes through you and you can discern what, what that is. And I believe that that was the dance with that intuitive forces because I was just open and I just say yes to that, I guess. Once I was older, And it got more denser with the physical aspect of existence. I didn't really think too much of it. And, but going back to, uh, becoming a mom, that reawakened it. It was just going back into that primal state is what is important. And I, um, just felt like this is the realm that I could call home. And it's just such a strong nature in me. And there's so much value. And under— and not understanding. And so I want to bring that powerful ingredient back into the mainstream, back into our school system, back into the children's hands where it belongs.
Yeah, you mentioned it as like a primal nature, and I think that there's something really subtractive about what you're saying, like If you remove all of the glitz and the glamour of 2024, 2025, you know, the hustle culture that most of us are subscribed to, the countless hours of scrolling on social media and divisive TV and news content, and you remove all of that, right? It's subtractive. If you remove it, what are you left with? I mean, you've got to go inwards. In order to entertain yourself. And you spend more time thinking about thinking and in meditation and in nature, like you talked about. And in those places, intuition can be reawakened, probably a little bit easier than just watching TV all day long.
It's almost like you turn off the lights and you're bored, like the children, like, you know, I have teenagers now, I'm bored. Perfect. Those are the perfect time for imagination to come in and things to— can be created, right? From imagination. Imagination and intuition is kind of this, kind of this ingredients for the next level of success, right? Because you have to turn off the lights, you have to be bored, and something will emerge from within. So we don't have that ability to do that anymore. I mean, we do have ability, we choose not to. Because it's— we are so scared of what's inside of us. It's like, uh, what do I do with this nothingness? Like, that's so scary. Um, but it's actually such a vast, um, mystical existence in there. If you are brave enough to dig deeper, there's definitely rewards to be, uh, granted.
Yeah, there's, uh, some type of quote, and I'm going to butcher it, and I don't even remember who said it, but it was something like, All of man's problems stem from his inability to sit quietly in a room for 10 minutes or something like that.
Yeah, yeah, even 2 minutes, it's hard. Yes.
Yeah. What does, um, you know, I know that, uh, in the book you talk quite a bit about breathwork. What does your routine look like today as far as meditation or breathwork, or how do you channel your intuition today?
Um, a simple thing brings intuition forward, which is awareness, and you said that. So the minute you are aware, you already are in that realm of, okay, I see you. It's almost like you looking at something, but you see it. It's not just you looking, it's just you seeing something deeper than it's there. And so that is just simple as that. But, um, how do I hold that vibration to the cosmic consciousness and so on and so forth? Because the primal is within us. Okay. Always, always, always, always until the last breath we take. So there's always something in us, but expand on that and evolve on that. Um, I just, um, I just bring consciousness to the breath. Like you said, slowing down. Making that coherence between the brain and the heart, and it just takes seconds. If you want to enhance it and bring a little bit more oxygen into the brain, you know deepen your breath and bring again the awareness into that depth, deeper inhales and exhales, and kumbhaka, which is the the retention of breath. All of these simple and um, accessible exercises are there and you can do it in a matter of minutes. And also, I believe that if you want to enhance your intuitive senses, going to sleep aware where you're going, where you want to be during the sleep and when you wake up, and also when you're waking up. Why? Because during the last 30 seconds, 60 seconds, you are in that theta brainwaves. And you're programming yourself. So if you can catch your last thoughts and change it, that will create whatever is happening in a creative process in your subconscious mind. And you're waking up completely in a different realm versus you falling asleep with the, oh my gosh, I have to pay the bills, or I have some important meeting, I don't know how it's going to turn out. So when you fall asleep with stress, you're waking up with stress versus like you fall asleep with these, this desire to tap into the vast intuitive world of mystical consciousness.
I love that last suggestion. I've heard it said that your last thought before you go to bed is also your first thought when you wake up. And so you might as well subconsciously prime yourself to solve a problem or just to be in a great headspace when you wake up. And while you were talking about that, I had a realization that oftentimes, When I'm invited to do public speaking, or I have a big endurance event like a sprint triathlon coming up the next morning, I always have a tough time sleeping. And it's probably because my last thoughts as I'm falling asleep are full of anxiety and worry about the following day instead of the gratitude for the place I'm in or my excitement. You know, oftentimes they say anxiety and excitement are the same feeling. It's just the lens through which you're looking at it. And I'll be a little bit more conscious about that, I think, moving forward.
You really made it a very good point. Anxiety is something that has such a negativity to it, but I look at anxiety as a pressure cooker. And the pressure cooker, it could be, and so much energy that you want to like have that lid off. But if you've fallen asleep with that pressure cooker, how do you fall asleep? I believe that surrendering, just Surrendering. And it's just, it is whatever it is. And if you cannot sleep, then just not force it. Just don't force it. It's just your nature. You are just excited versus just like, oh my gosh, I have to sleep. Because the minute you say I have to do something, it's just going to be counterproductive. So just surrendering. Oh, I can't sleep, but I will enjoy that excitement that I'm feeling.
Yeah, that's, that's great advice to surrender. And then to touch on something you mentioned a couple of minutes ago, The awareness piece. I'll never forget one of the first times I did a guided meditation and whoever was narrating the meditation asked me, the meditator, to feel my weight in the chair.
Mm-hmm.
And I had never in my entire life prior to that moment ever felt the sensation of my weight in the chair that I was sitting in. It was The weirdest experience for me because I thought, was I really that unaware my entire life of like the gravitational pull of my body onto the chair I'm sitting in? Like, I can, I can feel it right now as we're talking and I was literally never aware of it. So maybe for anybody in the audience that's listening today, if you're in the car, just feel the, feel the steering wheel in your hands, feel it, actually feel it, feel the weight that you're putting on the chair below you. Or wherever you're listening to this. And you'll get a sense of that awareness that we're talking about.
Yeah, it's almost like the— you become the observer. So it's like you right here looking at yourself. And I do that too. It's like, why are you really gripping that steering wheel today? You know, like, let it go. Like, exactly what you're saying is true. I'm taking sometimes a stressful breath and I'm observing myself. Well, why are you doing that? There's nothing stressful going on. Like just let it go. But sometimes the energy around us starts stimulating the nervous systems in us. So we don't even realize that, that what's going on outside doesn't have to necessarily mirror on the inside. But being aware of it, whatever's going on has nothing to do with me.
Yeah, I've found it. I've found it helpful to zoom really far out sometimes. So if I'm, if I find myself let's use your example. Like, I've got some stressful breaths going on, because I just read an email in front of my computer. And then I, I zoom out, and I can look at myself from a few feet away, just Nick in front of his computer, and that helps. But then zoom out and look at the entire, you know, continent of North America, and all of a sudden it lessens. And then look at the entire world from space. And then you're like, wow, that email is pretty insignificant there. And it helps me slow things down and Reassess.
Yes. And if you do wanna tap into the depth of that email you're reading is that sometimes when you read the email, it's just words, but you actually tapping into the energy of that person's intention. So this is exactly how our cell phones have been created on the telepathical communication. Everything, everything on the AI is just copying us. We are the supercomputers. So, so it's actually like, wow, I'm really intuitive. I can sense that person's anger or frustration, but I don't have to embody it because it's not really personal. He's really addressing the situation, not me. So if I would be Martin or Nick or Carl, he would still be acting the same way.
Sure. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Well, we're getting towards the end of the conversation. I want to ask a couple more questions about What does, what are the benefits of becoming more aware and in tune with, reawaken our intuition? So for the average person, why should they buy the book? Should they think more about this subject? Why should they listen to what you're saying? How will their lives improve?
The reason why I felt that is important to bring intuition forward is to discern and tap back into the truth versus lies. And it's really hard to right now figure it out. That is probably the one conversation I have with everyone. They don't know who to trust, where to trust, what's right, what's wrong, what's truth, what's not. So how do we know all that? And that's why I feel that it would be one of the most beneficial aspect of this book is to realize that the truth is really within you and know. That lie, for example, it's really easy to spy, right? Because it's heavy, it's kind of slimy, it has a lot of stories, agendas. Truth is so simple, it's transparent. You could see right through it. It doesn't sometimes feel right. I mean, if it feels like, ooh, I don't like that. Well, maybe it's hitting something. So don't necessarily say, oh, I don't like it and run away. Sit with it because if it's true, it's going to hit you. But then what I found very, very fascinating is deception is the mixture of both, which we have to give ourselves compassion because even though I would call myself pretty evolved intuitive, deception is hard to figure out because you have a conversation or you have a documentary or a movie And then you have a little bit of the truth and then the lie and then the truth and then the lie. And if you're not aware how that vibrational frequency going up and down, you will be taking this all as a lie or all as a truth. And that goes with our personal relationships. That goes with our business relationships, with all of this. So being very sensitive to the frequency, how does it feel when somebody's speaking the truth? How does it feel when they're lying? And know the difference during that conversation. Because I believe the next cycle of our existence, we're going to have currency of integrity and honesty. And that will be truly how we're going to be choosing our relationships, our businesses. All of that's going to be based on that. But if you're missing the boat on how to tell the difference, you're going to really miss out.
And I suppose I feel good saying that I look forward to that world where all of us are paying a little bit more attention to integrity and truthfulness and transparency and things like that. You know, I feel like the world will be a better place. And I'm happy that you're promoting this type of thinking.
Thank you.
Two more questions. First, where can people go to learn more about you and get a copy of the book?
I have everything on my website, lenka.org. Trying to make it simple, lenka.org. And I'm tapping a little bit into the social media once, you know, my kids are kind of out the door. So I finally have more time. So I have Instagram and TikTok and Twitter and all the other things. But mainly everything's on lenka.org. And I constantly trying to put new information out there. And my book is on Amazon, readily available.
All right, fantastic. And it has my stamp of approval. So here's my last question. And by the way, we'll make sure we get all of those links in the show notes. Normally, I have a co-host on the podcast. His name is Luke. He was not available to attend today. But here's his sort of famous last question. If your book and your website and all of your work sort of disappeared, but you could leave the world with one simple piece of advice or one simple message, and I didn't prep you for this, so whatever comes to mind first is okay. What would that simple piece of advice or message be?
Simple advice would be that do not forget how powerful you are. Because you are sovereign divine being. If you understand what I just said, you don't need anything else.
Oh, that's awesome. Oh, well, thank you so much for coming on the podcast today, and I'll, uh, continue sharing your work and talking about it with everybody. And it really was a pleasure getting to chat with you again.
Thank you. Thank you.
