The ONE Thing by Gary Keller

Gary Keller's The One Thing argues that 20% of your activities generate 80% of your results. Focus on the highest-leverage task first, then let that momentum create a domino effect toward bigger wins.

Hello, Book Thinkers family! Today's book tip is going to come from The One Thing. This book was written by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan, and what's funny about some of the early physical books that I read is that I actually dated the inside cover. So I don't know if you could see this, but I read this book back in February of 2017, so it's almost been 3 years since I read this book. I haven't been reading books for that long, so this is one of those early gems that I discovered, but I really, really, really love this book. Some of my biggest takeaways include the fact that I learned about the Pareto principle in The One Thing, and that states that 20% of your activity today is probably leading to 80% of your results. So this book focuses on narrowing down that task list, simplifying it, and focusing on the things that have the most leverage or that are going to create the most impact. Another one of my biggest takeaways from this book is that success is sequential. It's not simultaneous. It's kind of like a domino effect. Focus on what's going to start that momentum for you today, and then hack away at that domino until it falls. And it's going to create a little bit of momentum, and it's going to allow you to attack bigger challenges, just like bigger dominoes will fall with just a small domino up front. So this book had a big impact on my life. I'd highly recommend it for anybody who's trying to decide what activities to fit into their schedule today. As a reminder, what activities today are creating the most results for you? Because those are the activities that you should be focusing on. The other 80% that only creates 20% of your results, don't focus on those things. They might be the easier tasks to accomplish today, but they're just keeping you in that whirlwind. They're just confusing you and pushing you away from the priorities that you should be focusing on. For anybody that hasn't read this book, go out there and read it. If you have read it, let me know what your biggest takeaways were below. All right, take care. Bye.
