If you're a fan of leadership and sports, you're going to love this brand new book, Dare to Win by Coach Chantal Vallée. Here's why. I'm so impressed with Coach Vallée because she took over a women's basketball program that only had 4 wins in the previous 50 seasons and took them to become a 5-time national championship team. One of my favorite takeaways is that as a leader, adaptability is key. A lot of people think you need to be somewhere between tough and caring. And while that's true, your position on that spectrum changes depending on the situation or circumstance. Sometimes as a leader, you need to be more tough. Sometimes you need to be a little bit softer and caring. And that just shows me that leaders are adaptive and they are perceptive. Another one of my favorite takeaways is that intentions possess varying degrees of power, influence, and effectiveness. And it's essential for us to go from statements like, I wish I could lift weights, or I hope I could lift weights, or I would like to lift weights, to committing to lift weights. And you need to use that in every aspect of leadership. You need to commit and burn the boats, as my coach, Matt Higgins, would say. If you want to coach and lead high-performing championship-quality teams, this is the book for you, Dare to Win.
