What does your morning routine look like?

Nick Hutchison starts with quiet time for gratitude and visualization, reviews his calendar and tasks, has breakfast with his kids, then works out around 9-10 am to boost afternoon energy. His routine blends mental practice with physical activity to stay focused while working from home.

What happened last year with quarantine, with the kids are here, you know, I'm working from home and all that, I tried some new things. I was testing out a lot. We'd work out mid-morning, 9 or 10 o'clock. I'd get a little bit done in the morning. And then I would go work out and then I would come back. Actually found my energy was a little bit better for me. That's just the season I'm in. So I like to get up in the morning, have some Brian time, like get my mind reflected. I do practice gratitude every day because I think there is a trigger that you're able to turn on sensories and things in your mind and your brain that if you're focusing there, they say you can't be feeling negative and grateful, the 2 emotions together. Can't coexist at the same time. So I choose to be grateful and wake up and just actually say those things. And I'm talking about my day. I'm a big visualization person. I did that in sports. And so I'll visualize my day. I look at my calendar. Okay, what do I have today? What are the things I need to be thinking about? Do I need to reach out to— and I'll jot those down. So I like that structure. I like to have breakfast with my kids before they all go to different places right now with their ages. So I like to spend a little time with the family. And then I'll go— right now I've got the workout still around that 9 or 10 o'clock. And then I come back in and I felt my energy through the afternoon.
