Nick Perry explains how tenants forge employment verification to pass screening, then stop paying rent after two to four months. Verify employment by calling the company's official HR number from their website, not the contact the tenant provides.

Never, ever, ever rent your property to a tenant without doing this one thing because there's a scam costing landlords 6 months of rent right now, and it's called fake employment verification. What happens is that the tenant brings you everything you ask for, like payslips, checks, and the employer name on the application. But when you call to verify, you call their friend acting as the HR rep. They confirm everything you want to hear regarding their employment, and then once they move in, they stop paying rent 2-4 months in if you're lucky. If you don't want to get in a situation like this, then do this. You Google the employer's name yourself, find the corporate HR number on the actual company website, and you call that number to verify everything about them. That way you avoid any funny business like this happening in your rental business.
