Your Story Is Not Over, It's Just Beginning - Chris Decker - Revenue Today - Episode # 083
27 Dec 2022 · 6 min
Chris Decker shares a personal story about recovery and finding purpose through storytelling, filmed entirely on an iPhone. He describes a planned cliff jump as a metaphor for pushing forward, but a warning sign about past deaths forces reflection on what it means to keep moving.

I want to share a video with you that I made earlier this year. Just as a note, I shot it 100% on my iPhone, so that means there's no excuse about having the best equipment to get started. Check this place out. How'd it go, Roger? Good. The idea is actually pretty simple, but if I'm being honest with you, it's a little bit more of a story about why I do what I do. Delicious. Alexa, turn on studio lights. Okay. You see, to me, stories are a source of hope and inspiration. When I hit my rock bottom and found myself in recovery groups, people shared their past and eventually got sober. Today I'm actually driving to Los Angeles to go meet with a client to actually film an in-person story.
When you were playing that record, what were you thinking?
Goodness gracious, I have been in traffic for almost 2 hours, but we're almost there.
What kind of topics did you cover?
Oh boy, we talked about everything from attitude stuff, listened to some music that he played, some that he wrote.
If you feel it in your heart, uh, you follow your heart, you never get lost, that's for sure.
If you go up to the cliff and jump off, that your— the intensity to solve the problem goes up dramatically.
Okay, he said if you jump off the cliff, it increases your intensity to solve the problem. Let's get out of here. Alexa, turn on Goodnight. The plan was to jump off of this rock. To me, this story deserved an epic Conclusion. So that's why I was gonna jump off a cliff into the ocean. But when we got here, we saw a sign that showed the dates of two people jumping off that very point, drowning and dying. I've said pretty much all I can say, so we need a little perspective. Now I got it. All right, one more time.
Just look at it. Oh my God! I can't look at it.
Can you get the water in the background?
I'm James, and I've done a lot of crazy things in my life that could have led to death. That's not me anymore. Trust me, your story is not over.
