Can I Qualify for an ESA after 4 Beers The Biggest BS in Rental Housing Law

Kevin Moyer demonstrates how easily someone can get an ESA letter online by claiming to have drunk four beers in one day. He argues the system lets tenants bypass pet policies and saddle landlords with costs, while federal law makes it risky to refuse even dubious requests.

Hey guys, Kevin Moyer with The Rowe Report here, and today I want to talk about emotional service animals, arguably the biggest BS in housing right now. What are emotional service animals? Essentially, they are a legal loophole to get pets in a rental property for free. As a property owner, you may be thinking, I don't want pets in my property, or if I am going to have pets in my property, I should be compensated for the extra wear and tear, the extra, the extra risk, the extra fur in the HVAC system and vents over time. The extra wear and tear on hardwood floors, on stairs, but emotional service animals will stop you in your tracks. It is a legal loophole designed to protect vulnerable people. When you think of a service animal, you think of a blind person walking around with a dog to help that person around, and it— you certainly have sympathy for that situation. You think society should step up to share some of that burden. Emotional service animals go a couple steps beyond that. So again, an emotional service animal is a designation you can get for an animal that circumvents any sort of pet policy that you may have at a property. So essentially you have to let them in for free if this animal becomes an emotional service animal. So how do we get them? Let's, let's find out. Come with me here. So here I'm on waggy.pet. Let's get an official ESA letter. I'm a pretty well-adjusted guy. Pretend I'm a well-adjusted guy. And the only thing I really have going for me that might be an issue is that I had 4 beers last weekend. In a single day. So I have a dog, Fido. I'm most interested in housing. I've never been diagnosed with anything, no medication, no, no major life events. Over the past 2 weeks, have I had little interest in doing things? No, I'm pretty well adjusted. Have I felt down, depressed, or hopeless? Never. Grouchy, angry, irritated? Nope. Sleeping less? No, I'm sleeping great. I haven't been taking on more projects. I'm feeling really good. Never afraid or panicked? Never worried, anxious, on edge? I have never avoided situations that make me feel anxious. No anks, no aches or pains. Nope, I'm feeling great. Sleep, sleep's been fantastic. No unpleasant thoughts or urges, doesn't happen to me. Certain behaviors or mental acts over and over again. Nope, I am really on the, the straight and narrow. Over the past 2 weeks, have you had a single drinking day of at least 4 drinks of any kind of alcohol in a single day? I did that one time. Last weekend. 4 beers last weekend. Let's see if I classify for an emotional support animal. There's no legal requirement, I'm aware. There's only requirement for federal law. Do I believe a letter could help me? Where should I email? Emailit@gmail.com. What's the most important thing? I just, it's all about cost. I'm a male. I'm gonna fill out the rest of this here. I'm simply filling out my name, and we'll see if we get approved. Bear with me while I submit. All right, so I'm submitting. Let's take a look again. It's checking. Remember, the only thing that I suggested is that I had 4 beers. So what is this going to get me? It's going to get me free pet in the property. It doesn't matter if it's a German Shepherd, doesn't matter if it's a husky. It really doesn't matter. Frankly, I think it can be animals other than that. It can be rabbits, it can be Oh, congratulations, you are a good candidate for an ESA letter. To get it now, continue your registration. So there you have it, guys. I am a good tenant. I'm a good candidate for an ESA letter. And this, I already knew what it was going to do because I see how easy it is for any tenant to get this certification. Our laws were built on a high-trust society with the basis of high trust, and it's all just eroded. And right now people are just abusing the system for any reason whatsoever, uh, to circumvent. I had one person register 3 emotional support dogs to get into a property. You can't push back as an owner because it's just not worth the risk. You get dragged into fair housing, um, you, you find yourself in a lawsuit from the federal government for, for violating these rights, um, and there seem to be no repercussions for the people actually abusing this system. And I think we should go back to the days where We showed some leniency for blind people and their service dog to lead them around, and not necessarily for guys who drank 4 beers last weekend.
