Sarah the Speech Helper presents two card sets: Category cards where students identify what items have in common (Level 1) or name multiple examples in a category (Level 2). What Doesn't Belong cards ask students to pick the odd item out and explain why (Level 1) or determine what's unnecessary for a job or recipe (Level 2). Each set has 72 cards.

Hi everyone, it's Sarah the Speech Helper, and I wanted to talk today a little bit about my Category and What Doesn't Belong original cards, or Level 1, and my new Category and What Doesn't Belong Level 2 cards. For the first one, the Category and What Doesn't Belong cards, they come together, 72 cards in each set, and the Category Level 2 and What Doesn't Belong Level 2 also come together, with 72 cards in each set. So I'll kind of talk about the difference between the Level 1 and Level 2 category cards first. So for the Level 1 category cards, the student has to name the category. So they're given a visual of 3 items. So the table, dresser, and bed are all furniture. The drill, pliers, and hammer are all tools. The teddy bear, ball, and wagon are all toys. For the level 2 component, why it's a little bit different is because now the student needs to name items within a given category, which can be more challenging. So for these, they would name 5 farm animals, name 5 breakfast foods, Name 5 things that fly. So those are the difference between the category. Now let's look at the difference between the What Doesn't Belong Level 1 and 2. For What Doesn't Belong Level 1, the student is given 4 items and has to determine which one doesn't belong and why. So in this one, we would say the blunder doesn't belong because it's not a musical instrument. The spoon doesn't belong because it's not a tool. The watermelon doesn't belong because it's not a vegetable. Now the level 2 are more challenging because there's 2 components for this. There's occupations and they have to determine what they don't need for that occupation and a recipe and what don't you need to make that recipe. So they would have the bus driver, what don't they need? The carpenter, what don't they need? A train conductor, what don't they need? And a plumber. And then for the recipes, same thing. Waffles, to make waffles, what don't you need? Blueberry muffins, what don't you need? Fruit smoothie, what don't you need? So again, each set contains 72 cards and there's going to be level 1 and level 2. Thanks!
