Three signs your classroom schedule needs fixing: groups are too big to manage, there's not enough time to finish activities, or frequent transitions trigger behavior problems. Adjust it instead of forcing it to work.

Sometimes we have the best laid plans, but in reality it doesn't work out. And that happens oftentimes with our schedules in the start of the year. We set up these beautiful schedules, we think it's going to work really well, but in reality it doesn't quite. So here are 3 clues that maybe your schedule is not working how you think and you should change it. Do not force a schedule into place that is not working. Number 1, the group size feels unmanageable. There's just too many kids in each group, you want to move to smaller groups. Number 2, there's not enough time to get everything in the center done. You basically feel like you're situated, and then you have to transition to the next center. Number 3: the transitions are too frequent and they're triggering problem behaviors. Transitions can be really hard for a lot of our kids, and if you have too many transitions and it's just causing problem behaviors, you maybe want longer centers with less transitions in between. These are all clues that you might need to switch up your schedules, and do it now.
