Math E Learning Example Using Made For Me Math Adapted Book

A teacher identifies four basic 2D shapes: triangles have three sides and a hat shape, squares and rectangles both have four sides but squares are shorter and rectangles longer, and circles have no straight sides. Real examples include triangles on flags, squares as picture frames, circles as clocks, and rectangles as bricks.

Okay, welcome back. Like I said, we are going to review shapes this month, and this week we're going to do some fun activities with them, um, things you can do in your home. I want you to think about shapes all around you in your house. I bet you can find some things that have the triangle, square, rectangle, and circle shape. But before we do that, let's review how we can identify what the shapes are and how we remember them. The triangle, I always think of that point and I kind of put it on top like a hat. And we can— let's mark it up and count the sides. Ready? We have 1, 2, 3 sides on a triangle. So remember, triangle, 3 sides. Triangle dance, just like in GoNoodle. Sometimes we get the square mixed up with the rectangle because they do look similar. But the square is always going to look a little shorter. Okay, so let's count the sides on a square. We have 1, 2, 3, and 4. 4 sides on our square. And then we have our cousin rectangle. I bet you have a lot of these in your homes. I'm thinking of my door. Let's count. 1, 2, 3, and whoops, 4. 4 sides. So the rectangle and the square both have 4 sides, but remember rectangles are going to be longer, long like your doors. Squares are kind of like your picture frames that you might see. And then a circle, it doesn't have any straight sides at all. It just goes all the way around. Circle, like a ball. All right, so I want you to look at— I've got some real-life pictures of some shapes that you might see around you. We have our triangles, like in the flags, square like a picture frame, circle like a clock, and rectangles are like the bricks that you might see in the walls. Okay, so shapes are all around us. So I want you to figure out some shapes that you have in your house. For an activity choice, you can print this out if you have the capability at home, or maybe you have an iPad and you can write right on your iPad. If not, Miss B is going to show you a little activity next that you can do with just a paper, pencil, and some crayons similar to this. Have fun!
