Hi, this is Sasha from TheAutismHelper.com, and this is a product preview of visual resources for art class. So specials can be a challenging time for students with autism and special needs. There's not as much structure, there's not as much predictability, and there might not be those same interventions utilized that are utilized in their classroom. So a great way to overcome this issue is to make the same types of resources that are so successful in your room for the specials classes. So I really wanted to create some straightforward and easy-to-use packets that could easily be printed out, handed to the teacher, or purchased by a specials teacher and utilized quickly. So these ones are all individualized for art class. So the goal here is to increase communication, increase appropriate behavior, and decrease any problem behaviors that are occurring in these environments. So first up is an art resource quick guide. Um, this is something that often I struggle with even in my classroom, is I'm saying items or writing items that my students don't understand. So this is a great little anchor chart that can be utilized in art to have common art concepts, colors, shapes, numbers, types of lines, things like that. So this is a great one that actually I even use within my own classroom. Next are Art Project Step Sequencing Board. So this is a great way to show exactly the steps of each project. So laminate and have these Velcro pieces, and then you can individualize this for any type of project. So what are we doing first, next, next, and last to kind of show the whole scheme of what exactly is being done in one project. Beyond just a project, if you want to go even broader, a great thing to show students what is expected of them is with the schedule. So this schedule will clearly show exactly what activities are going on every time they enter the art class. So they're doing painting, is it group work, a teacher activity, things like that. So there's 24 different picture options of different types of activities that students could be doing. Oh, I'm sorry, um, 32 different picture options of of activities that could be done within the art class schedule. Next are behavior visuals. So we really want to clarify what is good behavior and what is bad behavior, even specifically within this art room. So tearing paper is not good behavior, but trying hard is. So this is a great way to visually show what the expectations are in the art room. Next are some awesome communication visuals that I'm really, really excited to start using. So the first one is a color choice board. So you'll create this choice board with the adapted sentence strip and students are gonna have to pick 2 components, the color and the item. So if we're working with markers, they can request, "I want green crayon," or, "I want blue marker," and pass off this whole sentence strip. Great way to target a lot of different types of communication goals. We should be even working on those in specials too, so this is a great way to target that. Next is an art supply choice board. So the same concept with different art items. Next are some common art class visuals. So for students that struggle to communicate, instead of engaging in problem behavior to get what they want, they can utilize these visuals to wash their hands, take a break, remove themselves from activity. So these ones can be really, really effective. Next are two sequencing step-by-step pictures, one for drawing a picture and one for painting a picture. So type kind of just a ready-made little sequence step of the different steps for common art class assignments. So again, this resource is straightforward. The goal is to increase communication. Decrease problem behavior, and just in general improve the overall art class experience so our students will be able to access this class more appropriately. Again, this is a product preview of Visual Resources for Art Class by TheAutismHelper.com.
