Sasha from TheAutismHelper.com walks through a Communication Social Story Packet with seven scripted stories that teach autistic kids how to ask politely, listen, stay on topic, interrupt appropriately, and answer the phone. The stories give positive scripts instead of just saying what not to do, and work best used before situations happen or right when you need them.

Hi, this is Sasha from TheAutismHelper.com, and this is a product preview of the Social Story Packet for Children with Autism Communication Packet. So these are all different social stories based on issues with communication. There's 8 different stories— oops, 7 different stories included in this packet, all kind of based around communication problems and kind of written in the same structure. Social stories will show students what to do instead of what not to do, so kind of giving that script for them to refer back to. You can use these preventatively in the morning or before a specific activity where this problem might be anticipated, or you can use them in the situation when the issue occurs. So the first one is asking politely. So this one details on how to ask for something in a nice way. The next one's commenting. So instead of it just being a question, question, question, how to comment back to someone, so to developing more conversation skills. The next one is not interrupting and how to appropriately interrupt two people. The next one is being a good listener. So what does good listening look like? The next one is staying on topic. So how to have a conversation with someone that is staying on the same relevant topic of conversation they are. So not switching topics suddenly and engaging them in the— in what they are talking about. The next one is when people don't respond. Sometimes my students get mad when someone does not respond to them, and so how to deal with that and how to rephrase something or talk louder, talk more clearly. And the last one is answering the phone. I know phone behavior can be very complicated and especially difficult for some of our students, but this is kind of a pretty basic story on how to get those main phone skills down. So yeah, these were the 7 social stories included in the social story packet for children with autism communication packet. These are from theautismhelper.com.
