Paul Sloane, author of The Leader's Guide to Lateral Thinking Skills, opens his keynote by arguing that leaders' own attitudes and behaviors are often the biggest obstacles to innovation. He'll use real examples and practical challenges to show how to shift thinking and lead innovation better.

Hi, my name is Paul Sloane. I'm speaking at the Leadership Conference in Birmingham. I'm an author and speaker. One of my best-selling books is called The Leader's Guide to Lateral Thinking Skills, and I've worked with major corporations around the world to help them improve the leadership of innovation. I'll be talking on this subject at the conference, and I'll start by identifying some of the main impediments to innovation in your organization. How can I know this? Well, I ask this question wherever I go, and the answers I get are very, very similar. So I'll identify some of the things that are impeding innovation, and you may be surprised to learn that I believe that one of the obstacles to innovation in your department might very well be you, with your attitudes and your behaviours, and I will explain why, and I'll tell you what you can do about it. The talk is packed with examples and stories and tips. I will challenge your thinking. I think you'll find it instructive and valuable. I look forward to seeing you at the conference.
