Paul Sloane explains a persuasion technique: make your request, then add
Chapters
The magic phrase today is a very, very powerful persuasion technique, and it's proven to work. And what you do is you make a request, you push quite hard, and then you add the magic phrase, but it is entirely up to you. So you might say, John, I'd like you to volunteer for this assignment at work. It's a tough challenge, but I'm sure you can do it, and I'd like you to do it because it would really help the department. But it is entirely up to you. You might say to your partner, "I'd like you to come with me to this art exhibition tomorrow in London." I think you'd because I think you'd really enjoy it. But it's entirely up to you. So you make the request, you push quite hard, and then you say something like, "But it's entirely up to you. It's entirely your choice." And evidence shows that people are much more likely to accept if you make the request. And then you back off a little with the magic phrase, but it is entirely up to you.
