Hey, everyone. Hope you're having an amazing week. This is going to be a quick one. So we're going to be talking about five of the books that I'm planning to read this summer. Why am I taking time to talk about books I'm going to read? Why am I even talking about books in today's digital age, when we have podcasts, we have YouTube, whatever it might be, and ultimately, I'm just going to talk about why I think these books might make an impact on my life. And maybe it'll get you thinking about what books you're planning to read this summer. Welcome to the Passive Income MD Podcast.

Let's get on with the show.
Okay, I know what you might be thinking. Why even pick up a book in today's digital age? We want things at a fast pace again. We have blogs, podcasts, YouTube, TikTok, whatever it is, our attention spans are getting shorter. Why even look to something as traditional as books? The answer is simple for me. They have this amazing capacity for growth, insight, and wisdom all in one medium that I don't think anything else can quite replicate. We got short bits here and there, but reading a book kind of gets you the front, the middle, and the end all in one place. So to be honest with you, I hadn't read a book for years outside of medicine. Again, you read these books because you got to get the information out of it so you can study, do well, do well on your tests, whatever it might be. But in terms of actually sitting there taking time to read a book, I felt like it was something that just wasn't worth my time. However, when I started learning about real estate investing, Passive Income started working on my mindset. When I started trying to be a better father, a better husband, I realized that books are where it's at. It's actually the best way to take advantage and leverage the experience and knowledge of the author. It packs so much information in one place. It's like a mini course. It's like a mini masterclass. So I really tried to make it a point to at least devour a book a month. I know it can be a lofty goal for many people when they can't find time to even do things that they want to do. So actually, reading today is not just about sitting down and doing it in the normal manner that you used to used to do it. I've learned to kind of do some speed reading and I also use audiobooks and that's kind of a cheat, I'd say, in a way, but I feel like it's still reading right by listening to these books from front to end. But I'm also really intentional about what book I pick up. Everything's an opportunity cost. If you're spending time to read that book or listen to that book, you're giving up on an opportunity to learn or do something else with that time. So I actually try to map it out. I try to map out which book I'm going to work on next and I try not to waste my time on anything that might not bring a ton of value to me. So definitely going to be doing a lot of traveling for the next couple of months and I find that's the best time to dive into some of these books while you're sitting there on the plane. Not much is going on. That's when I have the opportunity to get some of this done. So as I'm telling you, some of these books, hopefully it will inspire you to think about your summer reading. Some of the books that you want to pick up next, why you want to read those, and what value you expect to bring to your life. Okay, so the first book for me is the Miracle Equation by Hal Elrod. I talk a lot about his other book called the Miracle Morning. And that book profoundly changed my life, the way I start my morning, and it completely changed my level of productivity and how I approach the day. So he's got a lot of credibility with me. So this book, the Miracle Equation, I expect this book to help me figure out how to get to my goals. He proposed two decisions to make your goals inevitable. He says I unwavering faith and extraordinary effort. I love that. Talks about how to manage negative emotions by giving yourself this five minute rule. I'm excited to learn all about that. And at the end of the day, he encourages consistent, extraordinary effort to reach goals. In one of my recent newsletters I talked about resilience and I think absolutely, resilience is the key to being a successful entrepreneur, a successful doctor, dealing with all the pressures of your day to day and how to be successful when it comes to business life and relationships. Hopefully I'll be able to apply a lot of this stuff to my own life and then get some insights into teaching myself, my family, about resilience, acceptance, goal setting, and ultimately about persistence, not giving up. Okay, the next book has been sitting on my shelf for a while and have never dove into it. It's a book Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. I don't know how many of you read this biography. It's. It's an in depth look at Steve Jobs, right, the co founder, Apple. I don't think he needs any sort of introduction. You know, we all put him on this pedestal as this weird unique personality, obviously super successful. We all know about his life and his health issues. But how did he get to the point where he completely changed and revolutionized multiple industries? My is that I can get some sort of insight into the mind of, you know, this crazy visionary who really wasn't afraid to be different, to be persistent, believed in himself and tried new things. My hope is that it's going to give me some inspiration to how to continue along a path, you know, when you believe in it, when others might not believe or think you're a bit crazy for having that type of idea. So excited to crush that book and finally say that I it's not just sitting on my bookshelf. I'm finally going to finish that. I don't know how many of you have books on your bookshelf that look nice, that are good for backgrounds, but you've never actually read them. One by one. My plan is to knock those off. The next one is going to be a reread. It's going to be the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. I love this book. It's one of my favorite books. It talks about how to create good habits, get rid of poor ones. If you haven't read this book, you've got to read this book. There's a reason why it's been on the bestseller list for so long. It talks about how small consistent changes can lead to really, really big outcomes over time. We talk about that a ton on passive income md how small steps, consistent steps in the right direction and some course correcting get you where you want to be. This book also talks about the power of habit formation. For a lot of us, the more.
We have to think about something, you.
Know, most of what we do is pretty automatic. But who decided what those automatic habits are? When do we decide on them? When did we put them in place? So this book talks about how to use those right strategies to make those good habits possible, in fact inevitable, he says, and take the bad habits and make them essentially impossible to follow through on. You know, I talk a lot about goals and he talks more about systems, how to set up the right systems so that you can ultimately get your goals. And I love that thought too. And how many of us have you know, set all these goals where we want to be better in our health, have good habits, eating habits, but then it's not sustainable. You kind of lose it really quickly over time. I get really inspired at the beginning of the year to have all these lifestyle changes and they quickly fall off. You know, this book talks about how to create these sustainable habits for good. And it's a book that I plan to reread every single year. So this summer, it's happening again.
Hey everyone. Today I want to tell you about Tryon Properties. They're a company that's doing some pretty amazing things in the world of passive real estate investing. Do you know that Tryon Properties has a portfolio of properties valued at over $500 million? They're a reputable firm with a proven track record of generating strong returns for their investors. Now they specialize in buying and renovating multi family properties to provide high yielding passive income for accredited investors. But what really sets apart Tryon Properties, it's a resident focused approach to renovation. What that means is that they concentrate on cosmetic upgrades, mild infrastructure repairs, while adding high value amenities and communal spaces designed to appeal to higher paying residents. What's more is that they take what's called a vertically integrated approach to maximize return on investment for you, for them, and to minimize unforeseen costs in construction design delays. This makes for a smooth investment experience. So if you want to learn more about try on Properties, go to tryon properties.com that's T R I O-N properties.com again, that's trionproperties.com now back to the show.
Thanks. And these last two books. I know I talk a lot about business, entrepreneurship, making money. But ultimately I think the most important thing obviously in life is, is having good relationships. It's something I struggle with a ton in terms of how to be better at this. Nobody teaches you how to be a good husband. Nobody teaches you how to be a good father and friend. But I've learned over time that the more intentional you are with it, the higher quality relationships you can have and build in your life. And obviously that's what makes people happy over time, in my opinion. Happy relationships, you have a happy life. All right, so this book was recommended to me by one of my good buddies. This book is called Us by Terence Real. He talks about shifting the mindset in relationships from like myself and my needs to thinking of it more like a partnership as a team. What are our common goals and how can we work together interdependently to get what each of us need talks a lot about building up communication skills. Obviously empathy, understanding and all this stuff is obviously very crucial for a successful marriage and relationship is obviously important for having great patient relationships, friendships, even just being a good parent. So it's something that I know that I can improve on. If I had my wife on here, she'd probably tell you the same. So my hope in reading this book will hopefully create some insight for me how I can be better at this. Not just thinking about my own needs, but thinking about us as a team to really craft the type of relationship that we want. I don't know about you, business may be going great, but if our relationships aren't, my marriage isn't, then nothing's really going well in my life. So looking forward to this book. And then the last one is called Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters by Meg Meeker. This was recommended to me by a friend. We are talking about our daughters and my daughter's around 9 years old and I've already noticed she's at this point in her life where she's obviously growing up quite a bit. They grow up pretty fast these days and I can tell that there's starting to be a little bit of a wall between us and some of our discussions. So this book talks about the 10 secrets every father should know to foster a positive relationship with his daughter. You know a lot of what I do in life in terms of passive income spending my time, it's to a great relationship with my family, my daughter, my son. But again, nobody teaches you this stuff. And a lot of what we do is based on stuff that we grew up with, right? We bring that into these relationships and we do the best we can, but that's all we know. So this book was again recommended to me by a friend. Again they said it's chock full of practical advice on fatherhood, how to talk about empathy, how to create good communication with your daughter, help them really create this amazing self esteem and grit. Help them to feel empowered in life choices. Not you just tell them what to do, but they make good decisions on their own. Obviously as a father you can't protect them from everything. What that you can hopefully do is train them, power them or equip them so they can make great decisions in life. And when they do make mistakes, they can figure out how to course correct and get where they want to be right? So if I'm able to get these books under my belt this summer, and that's my plan, I'll hit all the major stuff in life that I think is pretty important. It's going to be talking about business, finances. It's also going to be talking about relationships. And all of these things need to be functioning well, at least in my life, so I can sleep well and feel like I'm doing good as a person. So I don't know what's on your reading list. There's also one book that I'd suggest that I've read this book so many times now. At this point, I pick it up here and there just to read small segments a ton. It's called the book Die with zero Getting all you can from your Money and your Life by Bill Perkins. It really encourages you to rethink your approach to how you spend your time, your money, and how you create experiences in your life that you really want to maximize these experiences over saving money for a more fulfilling life. It doesn't mean like forget about saving altogether, but how to create that healthy balance so that you can really find that place of fulfillment, that balance for you, so that your professional life is, you know, going well so you can experience all that life can offer. So if you haven't read that book, please put it on your summer reading. Sorry, I know I said this is going to be a quick one, but once you get talking about this stuff, this stuff excites me like no other. I'm wondering what's on your reading list.
