Hey everyone, welcome to the Passive Income MD podcast. Again, I'm Dr. Peter Kim. So excited to have you back with us. If you're new here, welcome. Welcome to our community. Wherever you're listening to this episode, whether it's in your car, running, walking your dogs, take a moment to pat yourself on the back and then take a moment to subscribe so we can bring you value every single week. Now, today's topic is something that every professional probably thinks about, not just doctors and physicians, is how to make the most from work conferences. How to genuinely extract the most value from a conference that you go to. You know, as doctors, most of us go to conferences at least once a year for your particular specialty or every so often to get the CMEs, whatever it might be. For others who are investing in real estate. Maybe you go to real estate conferences, entrepreneur conferences, whatever it might be. But have you ever walked out of a conference and just thought that was a lot of time to put into it and I don't know if it was worth it. And as you have families and you get busier schedules, it seems like the trade off may not be worth it. However, today I'm going to give you three tips so that you can make sure that you get the most out of every single conference that you go to, that it provides outsized value for you and ultimately you can walk out of it. It's saying this was worth it. So I'm going to call this a 1, 2, 3 game plan for getting the most out of any event that you go to, whether it's in person or virtual. So the first tip is make one great connection, set that goal from the beginning. You're going to walk away with one connection that will create some sort of impact in your life. I can't emphasize this one enough. Conferences, again, whether they're virtual or in person, they offer a really unique opportunity to expand your network and meet and connect with like minded people, whether the industry experts, potential collaborators and partners, or just people to bounce stuff off of. I've said in the past that your network is your net worth and I absolutely believe that and in conferences, that's one of the greatest places to meet and expand that network beyond the people that you would meet every day. I know some of you are thinking, how do you do that virtually? Well, actually, in these virtual conferences now, with all the new technology that's available to us, they have chat rooms, breakout sessions and networking tools. To be able to do that in our leveraging Growth summit that we do every year, that's completely virtual. We have these virtual conference rooms where people can meet. And it's not just like Zoom is where people can meet around and move around and people make some amazing connections through this. But you do have to be proactive and have this as a goal. Moving into these things now, why one connection? I say this because really true, meaningful connections, they require time and effort. It's not just about quantity, but the quality of the connection. And this connection could lead to collaboration, new investment opportunities, even lifelong friendships. I remember at the very first real estate conference that I went to, I felt intimidated. I didn't know many people there. I would sit there in the sessions and listen to people and there was some great information. But I kept thinking, is this the best use of my time? But while getting coffee, I ran into somebody and we ended up just talking about our lives and what our goals were. We set up a meeting to talk after the conference. And I still talk to that person every three to six months today over. Since the last few years, we've talked about what we're investing in, we talked about different resources and connections. And I will say that one connection has really resulted in at least six figures of extra opportunities. And that's when I realized that it's not always the stuff in the room that creates value. It's the stuff that happens out in the rooms, in the hallways, over coffee, over meals. So the first part of the 1, 2, 3 game plan is make one great connection.

Okay, tip two make sure you acquire two valuable resources. Now, resources could be people, services, products. It could be any of these things. So again, make sure you walk away with two valuable resources. This might mean that you have to stop by all the sponsor booths to talk to people. It means when you talk to people and connect, what are some other valuable resources that you use to get where you want to be? What books are you reading? What podcasts are you listening to? When I go to real estate conferences, I try to meet as many of the sponsors and operators as possible, and I set up some calls for after. But I have a realistic expectation I'm probably only going to invest in one or two of them, but they're going to be a great resource that helps me get where I want to be. That's create more income, create more time, create more freedom, whatever it might be. There have been times when I went to a conference and someone told me about listening to this podcast or following this person or trying this other conference out. So I make sure to write those things down in a notebook. These are potential resources that I can walk away with. We all want resources and strategies and just know that they're swimming around in these conferences and it's our job to find two of them. And the last part of the 1, 2, 3 plan is I define three actionable steps. It's so easy. After a conference, you're energized, you think you're going to take on the world and you and you just end up settling back into your daily routine after a week or two. So I've learned that if you're not clear about the three action steps you can take after you do a conference, in fact, I figure them out while I'm at the conference and many of them I start taking those steps so that I can commit to those action steps right away. For example, if I want to implement a new strategy, one of my action steps might be to Read a certain book and maybe I download that book and I have it as part of my audible or whatever it is so that I can start listening to it on the way home. Maybe for one of those resources, you set up a call with them the following week. That's an actionable step. Maybe you had an idea to implement something in your life. Maybe it's time management or you heard about a great idea to build a better system to get more things done. Well, you write that down at the end of every conference. And I usually put this in my phone because I don't lose these things. I'll put down, these are the three actions that I'm committed to doing after this conference. And I make sure I check all those off. There's no way we can implement everything that you learn at one of these conferences. It's like drinking through a fire hose. It's amazing to have all of that in one place, but I'll feel like I made the most out of it if I just boil it down to three action steps. We can all do that. Now. These are small things. They might be big things, but small steps lead to big steps. And progress is made when we actually take action. What if you approached every conference like this? And if you go to conference every year, or maybe two or three, every time you took a little bit of an action step, how. How far along would you be in a year, two years, five years? So just to wrap that up, the 1, 2, 3 game plan. Make one great connection, acquire two valuable resources, and define three actionable steps. So before you go to your next conference, go ahead and try it out. For those of you who are joining us for PIMDCON coming up in a few weeks, I'm so excited.
