Hey, everyone. Hope you've had another great week. I have a question for you. Have you ever faced a task or a goal that you wanted to achieve, but you felt a little intimidated or maybe you felt overwhelmed by how difficult it would be, so you just never actually get started? This has happened to me so much in the past. Today we're going to talk about some actionable steps so that you can trick your mind into making things happen so you can get things done. So stay tuned. Welcome to the Passive Income MD Podcast, where we talk about creating your ideal life through multiple streams of income. If you enjoy hearing about this stuff, make sure to hit subscribe. Now, let's get on with the show. Okay, I want to share a personal challenge in my life. Every morning, I try to focus on my health. I try to have a good morning routine. I try to wake up before everyone else in the house is awake because that's like my quiet time before I have to wake up with the kids, get them ready, help take them to school, whatever it might be, summer camp. I find that that is a time for me to get things done. So I have a morning routine. I know I've talked about it before, and part of that morning routine is getting out and exercising. Now, I live in Southern California, so I recognize I have good weather most of the year. Many of you are probably listening to this in a place where you can get outside a couple months out of the year, and the rest of the time forget it. But something that I've committed to is running several times a week. I've never been a runner. I've never identified as a runner in my whole life. But I found out during the pandemic, especially, that if I can get out and run in the morning, it completely changes the outlook of my day. I feel better, my mind is clearer, I'm less anxious, and I just end up being so much more productive. Maybe it's that feeling of getting something done and accomplished early in the day, getting over that hurdle and feeling like the day is a win no matter what. Maybe that's part of it. So I've been doing this now for about four years, but I still have a challenge. Every time I want to get there, I'll wake up and I'll sit in bed and say, maybe, should I do it today? How do I feel? Should I do it? Should I sleep more? All these questions enter my mind. I. I don't know if you ever like that where you have a task that you know you want to do something you committed to, but you hem and haul and you just rationalize it and try to figure out excuses why you can or can't do it. It just feels intimidating and so you end up just focusing on something else, whether it's just going back to sleep or whether it's doing another task that's easier or quicker and just leaving that other thing that you know you want to get done. Just put it on the side. Have you ever thought about investing in luxury short term rentals? Every morning I was having to fight my own mind to just to get out and exercise. And I'm not talking about long time. Maybe it's just a 10, 15 or 20 minute jog. I found that if I just got outside, if I stepped outside, I tied my shoes, next thing you know, I complete it. It's just getting from the bed to tying my shoes. It's that initial inertia that sometimes is the hardest to get over. So I started to trick my mind. Instead of telling myself I'm going to go in this long 20 minute run, I tell myself I'm just going to go put on my shoes and do a very, very simple walk. But once I get out there, especially if there's a cold blast of air, I find myself running. Now this happens in so many other areas of my life. Doing my taxes is another good example of this. When it's time to gather all of my tax documents and prepare everything, it just starts entering my mind. This is going to take forever. This is going to be really challenging. This is going to be really difficult. This is not going to be fun. So I tend to procrastinate that and I leave it until last minute. I know I drive my CPA bonkers. I know many of you don't have to deal with this, but I do. I procrastinate. And what ends up happening is it's such a rush and a mad rush at the end. My CPA isn't happy. I feel like things don't get done well. And so I've had to trick myself into getting these things done. I tell myself that I don't need to get everything done at once. That feels intimidating. So I just tell myself I'm going to start by collecting a few of the files and just putting them in a folder. However, once I get started, I find myself totally engrossed in the project and I work like a machine to check all of those boxes off and I get this done a lot faster if I just get started. And I've always wondered to myself, like, why does this stuff happen? Maybe there's a goal, like finishing a project, making an investment, or maybe you want to create financial freedom for yourself. Like these goals sometimes can seem so big and so daunting or in the future that it freezes you and it makes it hard to take action. And that's the thing, I think. It's the human mind. It's a funny thing and it tells you why things can't be done. What can go wrong that'll take too much energy and it takes you to the path of least resistance, even if it's not the best thing for us. But I believe it can be tricked. If you can just figure out the very first easy step that you can actually accomplish, you can just get there and do that. I believe. Momentum starts to take over. It's amazing to see what happens after that. Feeling overwhelmed by the demands of being a physician. I totally get it. I've been there too. But there's a way to reclaim your time, energy and passion for life. Join the Free Physician accelerator summit from August 19th through 23rd, 2024. This virtual event features over 50 engaging talks from physicians who found balance inside and outside of medicine. So I know that many of you, you've been thinking about investing for a while. Maybe you want to buy an apartment, maybe you want to buy a real estate investment property. Maybe you want to invest in a syndication. It feels like it's hard to get over the hump. That goal is there, but you don't know what to do. That goal is there, but it feels like the process to get there is very, very difficult or is really challenging. So you don't actually focus on it at all. You just have this goal, but you don't even get started. And I get it. That's absolutely normal. So maybe the first step in your mind shouldn't be that you're going to make this huge investment. Maybe it's just to educate yourself. Maybe it's to connect with one person. Maybe it's to take a course, maybe it's to attend a conference. Maybe it's reading a blog post, listening to a podcast, that feels less scary, that feels like a step that you could overcome. And then once you read that first book, once you connect with that first person, you'll find the next one easier and easier. And then you start picking up steam. But I know what's really gonna happen once you get started. You surround yourself with the right people, take that first step, you're gonna find that you make that initial investment a lot sooner than you expect. Then the second and third investments come easier and you look back and you wonder what took you so long to get started. This has happened over and over again in our community. I. I've talked to so many people who bought their first short term rental, made their first investment. And when I ask them what did it take to get over the hump, they never say, just putting in the money. They say it was talking to this one person attending that one event. So I want to encourage you, if you're in a position where you feel stuck, you know what your goal is. Maybe take your eyes off that goal for a moment because it's keeping you back. Focus on the first, the easiest step in front of you and just take that, commit to it, do that today, take this week and do it. Who knows where that's going to lead? In any case, have an amazing week, make things happen, and let's talk again soon. Thanks everyone. Enjoy the show. Let me know by dropping a review in the podcast app you're listening to us in.
