Whether you're listening to this in your car or walking your dogs or in between cases, or as someone mentioned to me this past week on the treadmill, wherever it might be, I just want to thank you and honor you for taking the time out of your day to spend with me talking about real estate, other streams of income, and even in the mindset necessary to make all of this happen. You know, this past week was an awesome one. I'm not sure when you're listening to this, but this past week, I spent time with about 5,000 physicians on the Leverage and Growth Summit, a virtual summit that we have where we just really come together as a community and think of ways to create an extraordinary life. Right? Ways to really take back control of our lives through businesses, investing and whatever it might be. And it's just been, it's such a fun community to be a part of, and the energy that people bring to this thing is really palpable, even if it's a virtual event. And it's really one of my favorite times of the year. So if you're part of that, thank you so much for being there. You know, one of the things that I learned every time when I, you know, every time I do. This is the thing we're gonna be talking about today. This episode is titled, you are the average of the five physicians you spend the most time with. Now, when it comes to the quality of a person's life, I absolutely believe that saying, right? You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. You. You might have heard this quote before, and oftentimes it's attributed to a famous motivational speaker named Jim Rohn. Now, when I think about this quote, it really talks about how we are all influenced, you know, but it's also something that really sums up how we live and interact with our closest friends and family. I mean, if you guys know, I'm a big fan of Tony Robbins. And he takes it a step further, saying that the quality of a person's life is most often a direct reflection of the expectations of their peer group. I want to say that one more time. The quality of a person's life is most often a direct reflection of the expectations of their peer group. Now, the older I get, the more this starts to make sense to me. I mean, I see the wisdom in this. I mean, I don't know if you have children. I think that we're all concerned as parents who our kids hang out with. We know that whoever they spend time with really influences who they become. And I think that we probably heard that from our parents and we didn't understand. But now, as a parent, I absolutely understand what they're talking about. I believe that people who spend time together influence each other, and I think it's inevitable. Like, whenever you hear families talk, they talk and act similarly, right? They eat the same kind of foods, same thing with a close group of friends. They really adopt each other's habits and behaviors. And as much as we like to think we're all special individuals and we're too smart to let others influence us, the truth is that the people that are around you, they're going to make a direct impact on how you think and act, whether you know it or not. And ultimately these influences, they can really change who you are. So as I've been on this journey of financial freedom, right, the just really to live my ideal life, I've really been seeking out those people, especially physicians, who are where I want to be, or at least those who have pieces of where I want to be. And once I find those people, I found ways to spend as much time with them as possible. Whether it's some sort of dinner or a beer or coffee, whatever it is, I found ways to bring value to them in return. I've discovered so much true value in those relationships. Now, we all know that burnout is very real in this profession. People talk about all the time, mid career crisis, these kind of things. And I do my best to be absolutely supportive of those who find themselves there. A lot of what we do is to help people in that situation. I listen and try to be there as a friend and provide resources. However, when I have the opportunity, I typically look for the happy physicians out there, the ones that seem like they practice for the love of it. And so with burnout being so prevalent out there, you know, I always try to figure out what's the secret of those physicians who are content in their work and who seem to practice again just because they love it, because they have it gets, gives them joy. And I, I think one of the key components that I found as like a, you know, in terms of a pattern for those who have really been able to keep off burnout kind of combat Burnout, whatever it might be. Financial freedom is a big factor in that. I don't think it's going to fix all the problems in healthcare, and I don't think it's that simplistic. But I think that financial stress, being under the thumb of these institutions and feeling tied to it and not in control, I think that absolutely adds to the situation. So I've been really fortunate to find physicians and some physicians who have reached that goal of financial freedom. A lot of them happen to be my peers in the physician finance blogging world or some of those other ones in my daily life that I found at the hospital. And these people seem to be seeking the same things I'm seeking and really prioritizing a lot of the same things. They seem to be really set on maximizing and valuing their time. They want to spend time with the people they love the most. And as a result of these relationships, I found the growth to be so explosive, so expansive in my life. I found that I'm able to learn from their experiences, they've been able to learn from mine, and we just help each other get better and grow. I mean, that's really why I started putting together summits like I do, because I think that people just need to get together, share ideas, share resources, hear from each other, and learn to build each other up in a setting where we're all collaborating. And I think it's been really powerful to see that happening not only in my life, but in the lives of others as well. I've also really become a believer in the saying proximity is power. What does that mean when you're close to people who, I guess, are where you want to be, maybe have the resources that you want or need or are making a difference? I mean, those are the people that you want to be around because you learn from them, you share resources, and somehow they tend to lift you up. And so, so much of my growth, I think, has been attributed to. To really getting close to some really amazing, powerful people. People that are in the business world, people that physicians that are just doing amazing things. I try to spend as much time with them as possible, and it's made a absolute, huge difference. However, I found that these people are not easy to find. I don't know if you've ever felt like that. Like, I don't know if you've had an idea, you've brought it to your friends in the hospital, other doctors, and they look at you and they think, you know, you know, that they're thinking, what are you talking about just be a doctor. I've heard that plenty. Well, I want to let you know, if that's been you and you've been thinking about that and that's how you felt, I want to let you know there are so many people out there in your situation who understand how you feel. There are a ton of doctors and physicians really pushing their lives in a different direction, not only in medicine, but also in business and, and in investing, trying to up level themselves, whether it's also in terms of personal development, trying to grow as people figure out ways to contribute to others on a bigger scale. Those people are out there and it's become a big mission of mine to connect people like that. And if that's something that resonates with you, I hope that you're part of one of our communities. Whether it's our Facebook group, whether it's part of the accelerator group that we have this called the Leverage and growth accelerator, where, where we help physicians build, grow and scale businesses and we support each other on the journey. You know, this kind of community is not easy to find. We've done our best to create these kind of communities. And if that's something that you're looking for, I hope you join one of these just so that we can live life together and really push each other to grow and be better in our daily lives. And so just for a moment right now, I want you to take some time to think. Which five physicians do you spend the most time with? You know, this goes beyond simply working together. Like, who do you discuss big things with, like life, finances, and, you know, medicine. And once you thought of these five people and maybe you could take some time to think about it right now. Pause this. If you need to ask yourself these questions. How are their lives? Like, do you consider them successful? I mean, whatever that means to you, right? Are they happy? Do those people have lives that you really want to emulate? Are they a source of inspiration and motivation? Do they push you and encourage you to have better relationships with your loved ones or to be better physicians to your patients? You know, or do they tend to push you down? Maybe they drag you down? You know, if all of these questions are yes to everybody in your group, congratulations, that's amazing, you know, but if there's some people in those five that aren't like this, maybe you need to find some other people to fill with those five physicians that will continue to help you grow, right? People that you can pick their brain, you know, where you can learn how to figure out how to get to goals, you know, and again, if some of those people are not like that, just understand that those people are having an impact on your life in some way possible. And is that for the better? Is that for the worse? Ultimately, this is all about reflecting on who you spend your time with. When people ask me what has made the most impact on your journey, whether it's to creating financial freedom, creating businesses, trying to live a good life, it's absolutely been the community that I've surrounded myself with. I found people like minded, people who will push me and ultimately these are physicians who aren't satisfied with the status quo. And it's encouraged me to try all sorts of new things, to not be afraid, to fail, to keep pushing forward. And I think it's made a huge impact on my life. And honestly, it's changed the quality of my life. I know it'll do the same for you. Let me know what you think about this, so let us know on the Facebook group.
