Precursor Ventures is deliberately avoiding AI-focused companies, betting that current AI enthusiasm is a temporary fever. The firm worries some founders raised money to build AI businesses they don't actually care about, and prefers a more diversified portfolio.

I think there's value in being able to say, we made a conscious decision not to go all in and not to center the company on AI. And I feel good about that. So I think at some point, all of these fevers break and we have an AI fever. And at some point the fever will break and people will wake up and say, wait a minute. There are other things interesting other than just AI. I just hope none of these people who cynically lean into this theme find themselves having raised money to build a business they're not interested in building.
