Short YouTube video by Amber Hollingsworth listing three less-obvious signs of alcoholism: (1) poor or restricted eating to not interfere with alcohol absorption, sometimes including induced vomiting; (2) heightened monitoring of others' drinking (counting drinks, intrusive thoughts about unfinished drinks); (3) awareness and seeking of higher-alcohol-content beverages to achieve quicker/cheaper intoxication. Ends with referral to a recovery center website.

Alright, in this video I'm going to tell you about three signs of alcoholism that you might not have considered before. Number one, a lot of alcoholics don't eat or they eat like once a day or not very much because they don't want to put food in their stomach because it interferes with the alcohol absorption in their bloodstream. We had a client in our office just last week, he's you young guy in his 20s and he was telling us how his mother would actually force him to eat a sandwich because she was so worried that he wasn't eating and he would eat the sandwich in front of her and then actually go into the bathroom and throw that food up because he was drinking and he didn't want it to lessen the effects of the alcohol. So that's a pretty extreme example, but that's pretty common actually. Number two, alcoholics are usually very aware of what the people around them are drinking. So not just what you're drinking, but if you're at a social event where lots of people are drinking, you can be aware of how many drinks other people have ordered. It can be bothering you that someone's ordered a drink and they've only drank half of it and it's still sitting there and you're thinking, why don't you just drink that drink? If that's bothering you, that's a pretty good sign that you're, that you're having intrusive thoughts about alcohol. Lastly, in that same vein, lots of alcoholics are aware of the actual alcohol content in various alcoholic beverages. So they know exactly what the alcohol content in different beers and wines and liquor drinks and they're going to be looking for those beverages that have the higher the alcohol content, obviously, because you can get the faster effect easier and quicker and sometimes for less money. So those are three symptoms that you might not have considered about alcoholism.
