This is three absolutely must have to's if you want to get sober without going away to rehab. In fact, be sure and check out my video titled reasons why you shouldn't go away to rehab. Okay, so if you're going to do this at home, which I think if at all possible is the best way to do it, because you're, you're able to live your life and learn to get sober at the same time, which increases your chances that you're actually going to be able to stay sober long term. Alright, here we go. Number one, you're going to have to really simplify your life down sometimes. I have clients and they're trying to get sober and they feel like they've been like putting off or procrastinating on a lot of things in their life because of their drinking. And now that they're getting sober, they want to do it all at the same time. Like they want to quit smoking and they want to lose weight and they want to train for a marathon. And I'm gonna advise against doing that all at once because willpower actually runs on little ATP, which are like sugar molecules in your bloodstream just like everything else. And you have a finite amount of willpower to use on any given day. For most people, staying sober in those early days really like requires pretty much everything they got in the willpower department. So if you're using up all of your willpower, try not to eat the chocolate chip cookie and trying to make yourself get up at o' clock in the morning and go exercise. Then you're real likely to run out of gas in the wheel power gas tank before the end of the day. So especially in those early days, you really need to simplify it down. Decide this is your 1 goal and until this gets really solid and your recovery is very stable, this is what you're doing. Focus on that and that alone. The second thing that you need to do in this process is you need to build some supports around you. Most people in recovery do that by finding other people that are also in recovery or that have at least been through it. It's just so nice to have someone you can call up or talk to when you're having a really bad day and you really want to drink, but you feel like you can't say that to your loved one because it might freak them out. And lastly, and maybe the most important thing is you need to build a system of accountability around you. Just because you want to stay sober today doesn't mean you're to want to stay sober tomorrow. So if you want to want it tomorrow then you need to build some accountability because even though you may be really gung ho about it, 90% of the time there are going to be those moments or those days where you just don't feel as strong and sometimes you need that level of accountability to get you through those hard times. At Hope for Families we use some really cool technology to do some recovery monitoring which our clients find extreme helpful to help them. In fact, a lot of our clients say that they just could not have gotten sober at home without those accountability measures and because of the really cool technology that we have these days, a lot of people are able to get sober without having to disrupt their life for 30, 60 or 90 days.
