3 universal small talk topics that you can talk about with pretty much anyone. Last week I chatted with these 3 adorable women from Ireland who were visiting New York City, and I noticed 3 topics that we touched upon that pretty much anyone can speak to. Number 1, celebrities and pop culture. They thought I look like Anne Hathaway. We started talking about her and how she's pregnant, the movies that she's in. Everybody has an opinion when it comes to celebrities and what they're up to, so it is a great universal topic that you can share with someone else. Number 2, travel. These ladies said they were visiting from Ireland, so I asked them how long they're in the city for, what they've seen so far in New York, what they've enjoyed. People love talking about traveling and exploring new places and just sharing their favorite experiences from their travels. Plus, it's a great umbrella topic that can segue into other subtopics. And finally, topic number 3, shopping and saving money. These ladies were talking about the retail stores here in the States that are based out of Europe and how they're actually better deals and better inventory back in Europe and in Ireland because the brands are European. It was such a lovely spontaneous conversation and helped me practice some of my social skills too. So keep these topics in mind when you're mingling with someone new and don't really know what to talk about or what to say. Pop culture, travel, and saving money/shopping are great pillars for everyday conversation. I'm Well With Raele, here to help with your people skills and social confidence, and as always, I hope this was helpful.
