Mentalist Randy Charach performs a lie detector routine where audience members write down their first kiss or pet on hidden cards. He uses body language and a technique called the Clinton maneuver to identify which names belong to which people, then focuses on a volunteer named Dennis and correctly guesses his cat's name, Salem.

Daniel. There was a real specific reason that I asked them their name right now, not just to find out, because of course I could have just looked at their tags, but I wanted to see what each one of them are like when they're telling the truth, which for some of them is probably a rare occurrence. And now that I've done a quick scan of each one of them when they're telling the truth, I'll be able to tell It'll be something subtle. I may not even know exactly what it is, but I know what they're like when they're telling the truth. I did a quick scan, and we'll demonstrate this now. I'm going to become the human lie detector. And I know this would come in handy for a lot of people at home. I'm not going to ask the women any questions that they would typically lie about, like their age. And I'm not going to ask the guys anything that they would typically lie about, like their height. Like everything. Instead, I'm going to ask them just some simple questions. For example, just imagine now, imagine you were just— you went to California, Rodeo Drive. You're coming back to Canada. We're at the customs. I'm immigration. Welcome back to Canada. Do you have anything to declare? I don't speak English. I believe you. 你会瓜油吗?All right. Boxers or briefs? Boxers. No, I wasn't asking you. He was wondering. Picking up the. Do you find me attractive? A little. A little. Well, that's not a bad answer because last time someone said yes to that, ended up with 4 kids and a mortgage. Do you find me attractive? Of course. Last— yes. Last time a guy said yes to that, I ended up in jail. Okay, and do you know why I pulled you over today? I'm the dentist, I guess. Yeah, that's right. Okay, good. Well, all right, we have an idea of just how they are when they're having fun. Now we're going to get you to each think of something real, something specific. I want you to think of Either the name of the first person you kissed or the name of your first pet. Now, if they happen to be the same— Remember, I'm not here to judge. So either the name of your first kiss or your first pet. So if it was, for example, your first kiss, think of his name. Got it. Okay. All right. Excellent. Now, I'm going to ask you each in just a moment to write those names down. There you go. And when you do it, I don't want anybody else to see what you're writing. I'll give you each a felt marker. So there you go. And print it nice and neat, big bold letters right across, use all the space. And once you're finished, remember, keep it hidden. And then put the cap back onto the felt marker and hand me the felt marker. And when you do that, I will magically, mysteriously know when everyone's done at some point. Can you count to 5 for me? Okay, perfect. So remember, put the lids back on the cap. There we go. Thank you. Okay. Done? Yeah? Couple here. Perfect. Thank you. Now, with the names facing down, you're going to all pass them down over here. They're going to pass you the cards now. And you're going to mix them all up, all face down. And that way we won't— if we're keeping track, we won't know whose is who. You want me to mix them up? Yeah, mix them up. And could everybody just shift over just about a foot? Perfect, thank you. Okay, good stuff. Thank you. Okay, I think they're mixed good enough. Thank you. Very good job. Now we're going to look at each one and try to determine, and you can play along, try to determine whose is who. This is how we'll do it. I'm going to show you each one and I'm going to ask you, did you write this name, or something to that effect, and you're all going to say yes, meaning right now 4 of you are going to be lying, only 1 will be telling the truth. We're going to try to figure out who's lying, who's telling the truth. Let's see what we have for the first one. Kevin. Remember, the answer is yes. Did you write Kevin? Yes. Yes. Ni hao. I'm Korean. I knew that. Shiba. Did you hear what I just said? Yeah, you said it. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Did you write Kevin? Yes. Did you write Kevin? Yes. Do you find me attractive? Like, or did you write Kevin? Yes. There you go. Hold on to that. Okay. I have not yet made up my mind for sure. I just couldn't get a vibe yet. Amanda, obviously first pet. Did you write Amanda? Yes. That's called the Clinton maneuver. Yes. 100%. 1,000%. Did you write Amanda? Yeah, I did. Yeah, yeah, yeah, sure. Did you write Amanda? Yes. Don't believe you. Did you write Amanda? Yes. I wish. Did you write Amanda? Yes. Did you write Matthew? Yes. Did you write Matthew? Yes. You're trouble. I don't know. I can't figure you out. Did you write Matthew? Yes. Did you write Randy? I mean Matthew? Yes. Hold on to that. I haven't— I'm not 100%. I might switch again. And finally, we have ping pong. Oh yeah, Korean. No, that works. Yeah, hold on. Obviously, first kiss. Look, there's nothing wrong with inanimate objects as your first kiss. I'm still not sure about any of you. I might change my mind. Did you write ping pong? Yeah. Yes. Did you write ping pong? Yes. Oh, finally, finally I believe you. Hold on to that. Let's see if I want to change my mind. You know, interesting, Dr. Dentist Dennis here, he just gave me a nonverbal cue. Not that he knows which everybody wrote, but he knows that he didn't write any of those, and he just looked at me I mean, he wasn't trying to help me. It was completely subconscious, which lets me know that none of those are yours. And the only 2 that I'm thinking of switching are those 2 or those 2. But I'm not going to. I'm going to commit to this. I believe that you're all holding on to it based on what I saw. If you are holding on to the name of either your first kiss or your first pet, I'd like you to hand me your card and go back to your seat with this big round of applause. Thank you. Thank you. And you're going to stay up here, Dennis. All right. So, tell you what, we still have yours over there. I'm going to grab a felt marker. I'm going to come on over here. I want you to keep it hidden. It's still face down. Only you know the identity, correct? Presumably. Yes. Go over there and keep it hidden. Go pick it up. Keep it hidden up against your chest. Now, come on over here, Dennis. We're going to go back to back. You're going to face that way, cheek to cheek. Okay, you're getting into that. And I want you to focus and concentrate for me now. And that's good. So you're thinking right now of your pet, and I believe it is a cat, yes? Yes. Yes. And I see you, I see you're visualizing the cat, and I can see the cat, very cute. And you're focusing on the name of your cat right now. Now, Dennis, face the audience. I'll show you mine. I'll show you mine? If you show me yours. Deal. What's the name of your cat? Salem. Thank you. You can go back. Thanks.
