I was about 10 years old. My parents took me to the beach, and I was a decent swimmer. The undertow became very, very strong, and it pulled me out. And before I knew it, I was pretty far, and I was trying to swim back to shore. What happens with the undertow, it's almost like you're swimming in place because you can't get forward. Now I'm starting to go under, and of course I start to panic. I'm young, I'm scared. And I'm panicking. And that's the worst thing that can happen, right? So in this moment, here's this presence, this being, and who tells me, calm down, swim sideways, and take all the time you need. So that's what I did. I began to swim on an angle until I got to shore. Now I know today that that's what you're supposed to do in an undertow situation. When you can't get out, you go sideways. I didn't know that at 10 years old. I had no idea. And the panic was gone. It was almost as if, uh, this feeling of calmness just took over every inch of my body. It was a feeling of warmth, and it was a feeling of comfort. And in the worst possible moment— so this being has always seemed to be there when I needed him to be there.
