In this solo nutrition video, certified nutrition specialist and PassionFit founder Reena Vokoun shares practical, health‑focused snack ideas to sustain energy throughout the day, whether before or after workouts, during work, or in the evening. She emphasizes planning ahead to avoid convenient, sugary options and outlines a variety of nutrient‑dense snacks across several food groups: nuts (walnuts, almonds, pistachios, cashews), low‑sugar dried fruits, whole‑grain crackers with low‑fat cheese, hard‑boiled eggs, carrot sticks with hummus, edamame, brown‑rice cakes topped with natural peanut butter, and Greek or low‑fat yogurt paired with low‑sugar granola, chia, quinoa, and berries. Reena explains the difference between natural and processed sugars, noting that natural sugars paired with fiber provide steadier glucose and insulin responses, whereas processed sugars cause spikes and crashes. She concludes with a call to action to view more nutrition content on her channel.

Hi guys, my name is Reena Vokoun and I'm the founder of PassionFit. As a certified nutrition specialist through the American Council on Exercise, I wanted to share some nutrition tips with you today. I want to specifically cover some healthy snack ideas. These are my go-to favorites. When we're stressed, hungry, and tired, it's easy to reach for the convenient foods like potato chips, cookies, cakes, sodas, and the like. However, it's very important to plan ahead and have healthy snack ideas on hand so that you can keep your energy levels up throughout the day, whether that's before a workout, after a workout, during the workday, or even in the evenings. I love to focus on getting fruits, vegetables, nuts, healthy grains, lean proteins, and low-fat dairies. So here are a couple to discuss. We've got nuts. Some of the healthiest nuts out there are walnuts and almonds, as well as pistachios and cashews. You can also find dried fruits like dried mangoes and apricots. With the dried fruits, you just wanna really look for lower sugar levels. You could also eat whole grain crackers with low-fat cheese as a really great option for protein and whole grains. You can boil some eggs and keep those in your refrigerator in advance for a day or two and eat those hard-boiled eggs to get some protein. We also have carrot sticks that are great when they're eaten with hummus, which is another source of vitamin C as well as protein. And then we have edamame, which are soy proteins that are great to eat with a little salt and pepper on top. I love to also get brown rice cakes that I put natural peanut butter on top of, which is a really great pick-me-up throughout the day. And then you could also buy Greek or low-fat yogurt, again, that's lower in sugar, and then you can add things like low-fat granola, chia seeds, quinoa, and other healthy toppings, and add some fruit like blackberries as well. It's really important to think about natural sugars versus processed sugars. The processed sugars are obviously gonna give you a sugar high and then a sugar crash because it negatively impacts your glucose levels and causes a spike in your insulin. When you have natural sugars, they're often filled with fibers and they digest much slower, which is gonna be better for sustaining your energy levels. That's it for today, guys.
