Hello everyone. Welcome to another edition of Shorts. So these are little shareable episodes that you can share with your pet loving friends today. This episode is sponsored by green juju. Green juju.com Absolutely love green juju. I sell their freeze dried products in my store. Can't sell their raw products in my store as of yet, but you can find them throughout the country in the United States and check them out. They are awesome. They are coming up with new innovative products and I love that they use organic ingredients in all of their products. So thank you, thank you, thank you for our sponsor. They just got done going to Global the International Dog Cat Every pet expose in Florida. It's a big undertaking to do those types of shows. It's exhausting and I don't envy them, but I heard they had a great show and I'm happy they can support us and we can support them. So check them out. Green juju.com all right, so today on the short we are reviewing, that would be we, me, Bryce and Kenzie, the Modern Dog Parent Handbook. They're also known as the BK Pets. So this is a really nice little book. It's definitely a handbook. It's the holistic approach to raw feeding, mental enrichment and keeping your dog happy and healthy. And I really love the way Bryce and Kenzie put this book together. It is visually like appealing. I love that. You know, it's a small book. It's very short and very colorful. Not a ton of reading, beautiful pictures. I mean, it's an ample amount, lots of recipes, which I absolutely love. So let's just go through it here. And you know, part one is called Extending youg Dog's Life. And it has a little history of kibble and how it's made kind of how it's problematic. And I love that it meets people where they're at. So it's not kibble shaming, it's kibble helping. You know, it includes things to look for in kibble, things to avoid in kibble. You know, if you've heard me talk before, there's definitely a kibble hierarchy. I learned that when I boarded Dogs for a living. I had a list of like, I don't know, 15 kibbles that were acceptable and the rest were not. And I saw a huge difference in dogs when they went from like the nastiest kibble on the planet to limiting ingredient kibble. You know, I'm not a huge kibble fan, but I'm certainly not going to put down someone who chooses to feed their dog kibble. And we want to make the bowl as good as we can by supplementing the bowl and adding things to the bowl. And this is a really good book to help you do that, you know, Chapter two, how to improve your dog's current food, meal boosters and supplements. It talks about hydration and especially freeze dried foods. It talks about different types of supplements and feeding kibble and fresh food. 90, 10, 50, 50. I love that because it gives people options when they're on their journey and when they're just starting out. And that's what we need. We need to meet people where they are, we need to accept people where they are and move forward. I think that's the most important thing to do, is move forward. And then chapter three, the fundamentals of fresh feeding. Great photo there. And talks a little bit about different types of food makers and why, you know, why feed fresh food and different models of feeding fresh food. You know, there's the ancestral diet, there's the barf diet which is biologically appropriate raw food. They cover that in the book. And then there's the prey model, raw diet and the whole prey. So lots of things there that you can use. And then they include different types of toxic foods to dogs and why they're toxic. They explain why they're toxic. And then dog safe foods. They've got a great little list of meats and seafoods, fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices and miscellaneous. Chapter four is how to feed your dog fresh food for an optimal health. The components of a homemade diet. They cover raw meaty bones and different ways to do bones and muscle meat. They talk about that. And the importance of organ meat and liver and also non meat foods. I love that. And the presentation in this book is just absolutely gorgeous. Then they go over how to balance a homemade diet. I mean there's just so much in this little book. I absolutely love it. I think everyone should have it on their bookshelf. There's some really great books coming out. You know, it's just so awesome. When I started out in my journey, there was hardly anything. There was Dr. Pita, Karen, there was, you know, the veterinary herbal book I saved my money up for by Susan Nguyen and Barbara Fargo. But that's not for the average person. It's for someone who's studying medicine. And herbalism and veterinary stuff. And so this is just so grab and go. I love it. And then we have how to transition to a new food. And then chapter five is alternative diets to kibble and raw feeding. Gently cooked food. Freeze dried food. Chapter six, homemade recipes. This is just awesome. I mean it really gives you this interactive moment with your dog and having fun. And I think having fun with your dog is so important. Mental enrichment for yourself and your pup. Introduction to Homemade meals. How do you handle raw meat safely? Is your feeding raw food dangerous? Different types of facts. Can I cook raw recipes? Can I make substitutions? How long does meat last in the refrigerator and freezer? These are great answers. Raw meals. Beef and chicken. Wonderful little kind of table here that proportions by weight. Chicken. They deal with chicken and then they go on to cover turkey and beef and pork and duck. Beef and duck. I love that. Then we go right into gently cooked meals and vegetables, seafood, fruits and bones. And then using a blender, Beef and pork stew. Turkey and pork stew. Good dog burger. Love that one. Egg breakfast hash. That looks pretty tasty treats. It gives you a good idea of how to make some fun treats. Hip and joint smoothie. Cancer fighting smoothie treats. Air dried beef jerky. Green banana training treats. Green bananas are excellent for your dog. Chamomile calming biscuits. Sweet potato crisps. I love this. And then snacks. I'm a big believer in feeding fruit separately from food because it tends to ferment in the stomach and can get a little crazy for some dogs. Dogs digestive system is much shorter than ours so you have a less chance of fermentation. But it does happen and I've seen a lot of dogs get a lot of relief from gastrointestinal upset by feeding fruit separately. But they have little berry delicious overnight Organic oats, sweet potato chips and guac. No bake Tahini Oat balls. If your dog can tolerate grain pup parfaits, this is just fun. Golden paste. Love that. Superfood eggshell, calcium powder, mushroom powder. Everything but the kitchen sink. Bone broth. So lots of recipes there. I mean just so important and just fun and gives you a little more things to do. And you can look at each of these recipes energetically. If you've taken my energetics course. If you haven't, I highly recommend it. Also my canine level one herbal course is open. Check that out. You can start anytime. And up and coming is my new and improved flea course and also my oral health course for dogs. That one is gonna rock. Ladies and gentlemen, chapter seven Mental enrichment. I Love that Bryce and Kenzie included this in their Modern Dog Parent handbook because as you see, it's mostly food, but they have not left out the emotional component of dogs and the benefits of having more interaction with their brains and different feeding mats and different ways to get their food and the importance of sniffing. Way to go. Bryce and Kenzie. Sniffing is very important for dogs and why it's important and different types of foraging and ways that dogs can forage in the house and out and social enrichment, why that's important. And then we have different mentally enrichment recipes. I love the berries and cream recipe. That's fun. The meal replacement enrichment recipe. Dreamy Tahini Forge for gut health. Love it. And then removing stressors from your dog's life. You know, I talk about stress all the time and how we are our dog stress and different types of interactions that you can do for your dog. And then finally at the end, they have a list of toxic ingredients to avoid with your dog. And I love how they covered lawn care and then furthering your knowledge. So they have a great little social media kind of accounts in the back here of some really awesome people to follow. And lastly, you know, acknowledgements and a little bit about Bryce and Kenzie and their sweet pups. And it's also indexed, which I love. Any book that's indexed, I think indexing is very important. But this book includes 30 recipes and it's just awesome because it is such a beautiful book. Again, it's grab and go and I really highly recommend it. I think it should be on every dog person's shelf. The Modern Dog Parent Handbook by Bryce and Kenzie, creator of the BK Pets. Love it.
