Here is how to save $800 if you plan on registering an LLC in California this year. If you didn't know, in California, all LLCs and corporations must pay a minimum $800 per year to the California Franchise Tax Board. But watch until the end of this video to learn how you can avoid paying it for the 2022 and 2023 year. And just so you know, there is really no other way to get around paying this $800 per year. You cannot simply just register the LLC in another state state, because if you do that, then you'll still have to tell California about the out-of-state LLC through a process called foreign qualification, and California will then still request that you pay them the $800 per year. But here's the deal, so because of COVID California decided to be so kind and waive the first $800 fee that the LLC has to pay for the 2022 and 2023 tax year. But they're just waiving the first annual $800 fee for the year that the LLC was registered. So that means if you file the LLC this year, then you won't have to pay the $800 fee for this year, but you will have to pay it for the 2023 year. So because the 2022 year is coming to an end, you should strongly consider registering the LLC this year but making the effective date of the LLC 2023. Basically, that means that you can register the LLC this year, but you're going to tell California that you don't want it to be effective until 2023.
