And far too often I see people limit themselves when providing this business description because they keep it too narrow. They don't keep it broad enough. So sometimes I do custom articles, and in the articles I'll state that the business purpose is to engage in any legal activity that's authorized in the state of incorporation or organization. However, when getting the EIN number, you are going to have to be a little bit more specific. The IRS will not accept the business purpose to be any legal activity. You're going to have to be a little bit more specific than that, but still you don't want to be too specific. You want to keep it broad. For example, if you're an e-commerce seller, you're going to want to put that your business activity is that you engage in online retail. There's no need to list the specific products that you provide.
