In this brief presentation, Dr. Robert Whitfield explains that the World Health Organization officially recognized breast‑implant associated anaplastic large‑cell lymphoma (BIA‑ALCL) in 2016. He distinguishes two clinical patterns: when the disease is limited to a seroma (effusion) or the surrounding capsule, it follows a slow, indolent course with an excellent prognosis; whereas a subset of cases shows capsular invasion or a solid mass, behaves aggressively, and can be fatal. Although the aggressive form is rare, it is serious, and both patterns can coexist in the same disease spectrum.
