Transcript excerpt of a YouTube short by Robert Whitfield MD discussing genetic predisposition and risk factors for breast implant illness. The speaker describes a genetic profile linked to the condition—mutations in vitamin D and methylation pathways, impaired glutathione/antioxidant systems, and interactions with estrogen toxicity and environmental stressors (mold, infections, trauma).

What I was going to say. Let's go back to genetic predisposition. So to your point about genetic predisposition. So people ask me all the time, can I tell who's going to get breast implant illness? And of course I can't tell you exactly who can get breast implant illness, but I can give you the genetic profile of that person very easily. And they'll have mutations in the vitamin D pathway, gpx, vdr. They'll have problems with all the different methylation genes. And everybody's always cleverly talking about mthfr, but that's just one of the many genes. Totally, totally. And then probably one of the most important pathways that's not really appreciated is our use of the master antioxidant glutathione. So GSST, GSTP1 and then obviously in our antioxidant pathways, you know, SOD2, the only thing. And this affects women specifically right now, to your endometriosis point, those women who are estrogen toxic have really difficult times with metabolism. Yeah, that is your avatar for this problem. And then you just slap in some stress, trauma, mold, parasite, Lyme, and that's your person.
