Robert Whitfield MD discusses new data showing breast implant illness can develop without rupture, caused by the implant itself acting as a foreign body. Genetic factors like impaired detoxification or kit mutations may determine who develops symptoms from the inflammatory response.
With this new data, it means that we don't have to have a rupture or look for a traditional hole to show that, you know, we've got breast implant illness can literally just be because we've got this foreign body within the body that makes it not biocompatible.
Anybody who places a device takes a risk of placing a device and causing a reaction, the worst of which is an infection. So there are some things that are not going away. It could be a hip implant, a knee implant. All these to a degree, are going to activate. Seemingly this one activates more, whether it's from placement in that environment. There certainly are a lot of things that we don't understand about what's happening. I always say you can't pick your parents and you can't outrun a bad diet. So if we understand those things a little bit better, I'm trying to make sure that in the end game, when it's all said and done, I would like everybody who's getting a device to be canceled, more precisely about their genetic or predisposition. If you will develop a problem from a pathway, maybe they don't detoxify properly, maybe they have a kit mutation, maybe they have something else.
