Robert Whitfield MD explains breast implant illness as chronic inflammation triggered by the implant itself plus genetics, gut health, and food sensitivities. Unlike autologous tissue, implants provoke an immune reaction similar to rejection without requiring immunosuppression.

So everybody listening? I consider breast implant illness to be chronic inflammation. And a medical device, in this case, a breast implant, is playing a role. It's not the only contributor to this. And we can talk about, you know, genetics and gut microbiome and toxicity testing, food sensitivities and metabolomics and all the things mentioned in my book, because those round out and helped us figure out and address many of the other root causes for inflammation affecting the patients.
And also just the fact that it is not a biological. It's not your own tissue. It's being introduced in your body. So an organ like a liver transplant, you suppress the immune system so it doesn't reject the organ. And then over time. Glad you brought this right.
