Dr. Robert Whitfield explains that fat transfer after implant removal can restore volume and improve contour, but won't lift skin or reposition the nipple. Fat resorption, necrosis, oil cysts, and calcifications are real risks that vary by patient.
Chapters
Fat transfer after explant can help restore selected volume and adjust contour, but it is not a breast lift. Adding fat does not remove excess skin, and it does not reposition alone the polar-areolar complex. Another important point is that not all transferred fat remains long-term. Retention varies, and the consent discussion should include risks such as fat resorption, fat necrosis, oil cysts, or calcifications, contour irregularity, infection, donor site issues, and the possibility of additional imaging or procedures. I will explain these trade-offs live Thursday at 6 PM Central and 7 PM Eastern. This is educational only. It is not a personal recommendation.
